Filicori Zecchini
“And honestly, the espresso pulled here, which is some of the best on the UWS, is well worth making these kinds of moments.”
“That is until this week when I visited Filicori on Manhattan's 123 station 96th and Broadway, Upper West Side, New York.”
“Today, as they saw me walking in the door, they made sure to grab the almond milk out to be prepared for my order with a smile!”

I stopped in for a quick coffee and was immediately welcomed by some great, vibrant, Italian baristas. The spot doesn't have as much character as some other coffee shops, but it's sleek and offers lots of to-go options. It feels very European. I appreciated how warm everyone was and wish I had had more time to stick around.
We often say love cannot last forever and yet, what is forever to us?
There isn't a single aspect of our lives that exists in perpetuity, not ourselves, not our homes, not even the art we create, which will likely disappear long before the sun swallows the earth.
I personally think it isn't the great cathedrals or statues or gods that are eternal for us; rather it is the most fleeting things: that kiss you will always remember, the look on your son's face you think of every day, an accident you wish you could change.
It is these infinitely small, transient things that are the true monuments of life. That stay with us always. So, if you are sitting here with someone you care about, sipping an espresso for a few minutes, know that you are making a greater and more true history than anything read in any book.
And honestly, the espresso pulled here, which is some of the best on the UWS, is well worth making these kinds of moments. I often think how sad and sorry a thing like a government, or even an entire city is, compared to two people sitting in the corner of some coffee shop sharing the briefest of kisses.
This is a really nice local establishment. If you can get a spot, park yourself here with your computer or note book and plan to be efficient and get work done. The beverages and food choices are top notch. My husband and I get lots of work done here. Glad it's my local coffee shop.
coffee
reminiscent of mornings in europe.
mix of european and american style coffee and food.
plenty of chocolate to enjoy with espresso.
friendly and efficient staff.
Popped by today after searching for a spot where I could sip an iced latte and read for a few hours, and it seemed like Filicori would fit the bill. It was almost full at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, with a decently loud noise level and a mediocre soundtrack (I started using my headphones). Iced latte was alright, a bit too milky with too much ice. Reminded me of Starbucks lattes, except sadly more expensive…Huge selection of pastries including cookies, bagels, etc. I'll probably only come back here if I'm looking for a place to hang out, and if I'm feeling too lazy to walk to Birch on Columbus.

Ermagerd new fave.
Pros: great service, great brownie, granola parfait and iced tea (I've yet to try the coffee!), gorgeous space in which to read/chill/study.
Cons: drafty A/C, and I wasn't a fan of the music.
Would def come back though.
I am a regular at Filicori and have always loved it. Today my coffee sucked. I wish I had picked one up from dunkin donuts instead. Would have been at least cheaper. It's a new female barista today. Terrible job. Caffe latte with hazelnut- super sweet, cold and super messy. No class. She cmpletely ruined my morning coffee :(. Now I have to buy a better coffee to undo the effect. I guess Paris Baguette cafe latte should do the trick. I will walk away from filicori now- looking actively for a good coffee place. Filicori is out.
One AMAZING, FABULOUS Latte & you will feel like you are in Italy. I LOVED IT BECAUSE the foam was rich & thick and I'm guessing at least a half inch or more deep. I had a small latte. The regular. I did not try the flavored lattes yet. This was my first visit & I will be back!! I'll post a few photos.
I was not impressed with the pastries, tho. Today is Saturday, so I don't know if weekends make a difference. The only pastry I saw that called out to me was the beautiful looking rugalah & it looked exactly like the delicious chocolate rugalah/babka piece of pastry that the bakers called "Bread" make, & that, I can tell you is outrageously delicious. (They are at Union Square & 15th Street) When I paid for my latte the nice lady at the register told me she was giving me a card & with 7 purchases I would get a free coffee. How nice not to have to ask for the card!!!!!!! Yipee! And I see there are multiple locations in Manhattan. I'm happy about that!! I shall try to visit each one!! I will also return to this location during the week to check out the pastries again, & I will update this review. So, if you are wishing you could vacation in Italy, but can't right now, stop in to Filicori Zecchini Cafe & have a latte & you will feel like you are in Italy with your first sip. Enjoy!!
