  1. I tried the oxtail a couple weeks ago, the meat was very tender and well-cooked and includes lots of sauce.. but I can't say I was crazy about the flavor but that's my fault, not theirs, I'm just partial to Dominican style rabo. The small at $8 was enough food for me, my coworker got the $11 medium which was a very big portion.. can't imagine how much comes in the large.

I walked past today and noticed that they had a $6 curry chicken lunch special. I haven't seen curry chicken on their normal menu before so I couldn't resist. Best decision I made all day! There was one big plantain on top which was good (I guess they ran out the time I got the oxtail last time **get there early**), the carrots and rice were also delicious. By the time I got to the chicken I didn't even mind the fact that there were only 3 pieces because everything in the container was great. The pieces are pretty big anyway.

Expect a line, but once you get to the front and they take your order, you'll get it quickly.

  2. I was enjoying my walk during lunch and stumbled upon this place. This isn't their normal location – they were off of Broadway but I heard they're normally off of broad and beaver.

I tried the small jerk chicken.  It was the perfect portion for me.  It comes with rice and peas and a vegetable. they had sweet potatoes that day so i decided on plantains.  She asked if I wanted sauce on top I thought it was a hot sauce so I said yes.  That was the only item I didn't love. It was more BBQ and sweet than I liked.  The other items were great. Jerk chicken seasoned perfect not too salty… Rice and peas great and plantains were perfect.  $8 for my meal… A bit steep I think for the amount… But a great place to try out

  3. I wish they can find a permanent home in FIDI! You can spot them between Broad and Beaver street. Don't be tempted by the long line, it moves quickly and you can easily make a new friend while waiting.

Absolutely love this Jamaican food truck!
Call me boring, but I usually order their jerk chicken patties with a bottle of cream soda.

Reasonable prices and good quality of food.

  4. 6/14/13 – I had this for lunch today.  Having not ordered from them before I got the medium thinking that a small would be, well, small.  The medium was too big for me.  For $11 I got jerk chicken with mixed vegetables, plantains, and rice (which I asked them to put some oxtail gravy on).  Very good meal and for FIDI cheaper than most other option.

  5. A bit expensive, but definitely worth it once in a while when you're spending too much time on campus. Their oxtail is delicious (and totally something I've eaten during a lecture on Applied Regression). Nothing is boneless, (except for the fried plantains) so throw all semblance of propriety out the door if you need to eat during a lecture. There is so much food in a small that I can't imagine scaling up.  If you see it parked across the street from the Starbucks, give it a try!

  6. I've only been to this cart once, but DAMN did it make an impression on me! The cart is now located on Broad Street between William and Pearl Streets during lunch hours M-F.  Everyday I saw this truck during my lunchtime and EVERY DANG DAY the line was always long so I never bothered to stop by….until now. I was determined to get food from this truck one day so I left for lunch early around 11:40 and luckily there was no line (tip – make sure to get here early!)

I ordered the lunch special, specifically the Stew Chicken, which was $6. The other lunch special they had on the menu was the Curry Chicken. All other meals were $8, $11 and $14 depending if you order a small, medium or large box. All of the meals come with rice and beans and a salad. The Stew Chicken just BLEW MY MIND away. It was a juicy, steaming pile of goodness and I knew I was in for a treat the second I opened that box. It smelled extremely good and I dipped my fork into the chicken immediately. The chicken was moist, soft and there was plenty of sauce covering it, which made a nice compliment to the rice. Surprisingly, the small box really filled me up. It's quite deceptive.

The rice was perfectly cooked as well and the small salad gave the entire meal a nice balance. I hadn't had a lunch meal that hit that spot in a while, plus the aroma didn't leave my desk for another hour! It left me wanting more, but at the same time I was borderline full. An additional note I wanted to make was that the lady who worked the cashier part of the truck was very friendly as I made small talk with her and asked her if she could show me the size of the different boxes. She did not mind at all and also let me know the difference between what I ordered and the other meals.

Look forward to definitely coming back one day. The larger meals are a bit steep (Baller status) so I might just stick with the lunch special, but I wouldn't mind trying something new since I know the food quality won't disappoint!

  7. Go to the southeast corner of Broad and Beaver around 12:45 p.m. on a weekday and you'll see a line of people waiting.

They're waiting for the best Caribbean food in a couple of miles which is dispensed out of this bright orange truck with a garishly blinking scrolling sign above the front window. Join the line and you'll soon notice that the non-Caribbeans are in the minority here in this neighborhood that's not known for being bursting for diversity.

Nearly everyone is a Wall Street type – the Exchange is in view – who knows a good midday meal. My standby is the jerk chicken, hold the canned vegetables and wet cabbage. Instead, my small ($8) portion is filled with bone-in, hunks of smoky chicken, lightly covered with a spicy jerk sauce. Below the chicken are a few slices of plantain and some gloriously well prepared Jamaican rice and peas.

I'd eat this every day of the week if it wasn't slightly too caloric for a noon meal. The staff are a real treat as well, especially the person who hands out completed orders  and take the cash. Her friendly greetings – "how are you doing today, bunny?" – and the wonderful food are your rewards for making it to the front of the line

  8. This truck is in FiDi certain weekdays. Sunrise might not be the cheapest option around, but it's quality, serving up mouth-watering oxtail, plantains, and rice. Their smaller portion is adequate for lunch, but you'll want to spring for the large. Trust.

There's usually a line of folks, so be prepared to wait! Cash only.
