White Castle

“The restaurant is fairly clean and is conveniently located near the Queens Center Mall.”

“As a result, there are a lot fewer outlets than I remember from my childhood, but a sack of these little treats continues to be the finest fast food fix around.”

“Made even more famous after Harold and Kumar, White Castle is a great spot to visit after a late night out in New York City.”

  1. The last time I came to White Castle when I last visited NY in 2005.  Now that I live here and there is a White Castle within walking distance, we had to go get some.   We walked back on our way back from the mall.   This location is busy but they are pretty quick.  The cashier was pretty nice and didn't mind answering our questions.  We ended up getting 10 sliders (no onions or pickles) and 2 fries.  The sliders are okay, they are perfectly packaged in their individual carton.   Even though we ordered it without onions, we can still taste onion flavor on the burger which is okay.    The meat is pretty thin on the sliders and I wish it was a little bit thicker.   The fries is good, regular crinkle fries.   It was kind of pricey as the total came out to $18 because I think we got cheese on our sliders and 2 medium fries.  But I would definitely come back again.  A good (new, for me anyway) fast food option.

  2. Food is fine, never had any problems with what I ordered.

Love their solid, crispy onion rings. Sometimes Burger King can be kind of soft and wet, like they didn't fry it long enough and the breading was coming off.

The Crinkle Fries here are never burnt or overly brown, so I'm assuming they use fresh oil. I am never disappointed with their fries here. I love the cheese sauce. I usually order a whole bunch.

Once I got the ranch fries — fries, bacon, ranch, and maybe cheese? Delicious!

The real gripe here is that they suck at taking coupons. Don't get me wrong — they always honor them, but it's as if they have never seen a coupon before, the way they are staring at it as if it were a extremely difficult math problem. And each and every time, they go to another cashier, who doesn't know how to input the coupon. It becomes this merry go round of employees who have never seen a coupon before. Seriously, I highly doubt we are the only ones using it, in all of Elmhurst. And it becomes this long drawn out process.

I know the managers have a better understanding of what to do — I once saw a young guy in a dress shirt help with the coupon situation — but seeing a manager there is rare. I never see anyone up front and I feel kind of bad that their employees, most of them older and not entirely fluent with English, floundering on their own.

A couple things I didn't care for on the menu:

Waffle sandwiches — the waffles were too sweet and it was weird eating it with sausage/eggs/bacon, but that's just a personal taste preference.

Veggie burger — OK, this was totally disgusting. Not edible. I took a bite and couldn't do it. Gross. This is a fast food joint, I really don't think people coming here are watching their weight or searching for a vegetarian option. Or if a vegetarian is coming in here to eat….well, then that's just plain ridiculous.

  3. It's so difficult every time I get the crave for a White Castle hamburger the urge to go and get a sack. Unbelievable how this place has changed throughout the years.

Lot's of new items being introduced like more healthy item- Smoothie- Wow! No way! Okay, this is a good thing. Still they got more fried items coming out too. Latest is Nibblers for Road Trip- Mac & Cheese and Corn Dog. Always something new for consumers to buy and try.

Coffee is still good and strong as ever.

Yes, prices of the burger has gone up.

Need to eat four to feel full. No wonder we get the sacks to see how much we need to eat to get full. LOL.

This White Castle is by the Queens Center Mall and a treat after shopping to get several burgers and a drink. Fried clams are good too dunked in ketchup or tartar sauce. I steer clear from the fries they are too addicting. I would start on fries instead of burger first.

Happy they still around after all these years and with all the developments in the neighborhood.

  4. My all time favorite fast food joint. 24 hours and they serve everything at any hour. You cant get breakfast after 11 at mcdonalds. That sucks! And white castle is literally made to order. But its a little expensive

  5. I just have to come here every time I'm in New York or Jersey.  It's a simple burger that is in slider form and the taste is okay, really nothing special.  With not many people there, we were surprised we had to wait 15 minutes for our food.  Fries were bad, they had barely any taste to them.  If you're going to come here it's most likely because you've never tried it, or you're just feeling nostalgic from coming here in the past.

  6. If you want to stuff on junk food after your shopping trip to Queens Mall, then this White Castle is just one light away. I always like their veg sliders with onion rings. Tasty, cheap n quick- who's complaining?!

  7. After not eating all day and working up an appetite shopping from one end of Queens Blvd. to the other, I decided to enter this White Castle.  I haven't been to this White Castle in decades!  The last time was when I was a child and my mother used to bribe me with White Castle in order for me to go to the doctor's at the now non-existent HIP center a few blocks away.

The inside has obviously changed since the last time I visited.  Seems to be a bit smaller but there is a good amount of seating with two entrances/exits.  They are very busy but seem to be able to keep up with the fast pace.  I encountered quick and friendly service.  They give you your receipt and you wait for your number to be called.  The problem is is that the number is not in bold print on the receipt so you wind up frantically looking for it, wondering if the number they are shouting out at the moment is your order.

What I love about White Castle is that they are one of the few fast food chains that are vegetarian/vegan friendly.  I really loved their vegan veggie sliders.  So good and full of vegetables.  The only thing problem is is that they don't put any condiments on it, unlike their other burgers.  Some dressing or a random pickle/chopped onions wouldn't  hurt!  The onion chips are great.  So are the clam strips.  Yes, they are breaded and fried, but they aren't greasy and don't give you that sick feeling most fried foods do. They asked me if I wanted any condiments and so I asked for tartar sauce for my clam strips.  I go home to see that they gave me hot sauce.  Annoying.

Really can't go wrong with White Castle.  It's cheap and filling.  Pretty sure I'll be hitting this spot up again after another shopping adventure on Black Friday!

  8. Haven't been here for more than 20 years.  I thought it would be old, dirty & kinda beat up. To my surprise, it is more or less the same as it was, clean & comfortable. Cheap little burgers or in today's parlance, sliders. Depending on you appetite, you'll have 2 to 10 of them. They now have chicken & fish on top of the beef they had before. I would give the beef & chicken a 4, the fish a 3 & the union rings a 2 out of 5. Meals are $6-8 – cheap!
