  1. We came here for Caribbean restaurant week in Brooklyn. It's a cute little restaurant with a bar on the side. I was shocked that it wasn't more crowded for a Saturday night. They played some great music. They had a separate Caribbean restaurant week menu. I ordered the Jerk chicken with rice and peas and their rum punch. My friend had the salmon with rice and peas. My food was pretty good even though the portion was smaller. However,  I really can't complain because my meal was only $6. My drink was surprisingly equally delicious and if I didn't have to go work early the next morning I would've had another one. I will definitely return to chill and eat.

  2. Nice spot. I'm glad it opened in the neighborhood. Good West Indian food and very nice atmosphere. On certain nights the happy hour is live and people come to watch sports. I really enjoyed the mac and cheese and would certainly be back again!

  3. Vivid is very quiet for a Saturday afternoon, prime brunch hour. A few patrons are scattered across the bar, and one family at a table, and myself.

But this doesn't seem like the brunch-hour kind of joint. As delicious as their offerings are for brunch- French toast, vegetarian omelettes, and chicken and waffles- I'm assuming this place gets packed at nights. Chill reggae plays at a moderate level while you eat, but not enough to have to shout over. It's perfect.

Speaking of perfect, people must come here for the cocktails, too. These are not watered down juices for shrinking violets. If you've ever had a good stiff drink, come here to not be disappointed. The prices for cocktails average about $10, and the food is well priced, too.

I ordered the lobster mac and cheese. It comes served piping hot. Please believe me. My tolerance for heat is high because I have no patience when it comes to cheese. And I'm the one telling you to wait. But when it cools off just a tiny bit, dig in. Ample portions of fresh lobster are smothered in equally substantial portions of melted cheese. The two lobster tails presented are shelled – I'm assuming to add to the pasta. Just don't go digging in there for lobster meat. They know presentation.

And I think it's because this place is well thought out with care. I've had this in bookmarks way too long. The ten minute bus ride from the train station discouraged me??! If you are driving-averse like I am, then cab it or get your ass on that bus. If you drive, no excuses. You can have a wonderful quiet brunch for a bargain. I can't wait to bring my girlfriends.

  4. I have not had such a good time in a while! "Friday Night Fun" at its best! Went here when my stomach was growling. Security was friendly, the DJ was friendly, the waitress was friendly, and the room full of respectful men were friendly. I was in awe! Every one that walked by took time to stop at the table and chit chat, smile, give a friendly wink, or encourage karoake. OMG Karoake TUN UP! These guys were hilarious! We could not help but to join in. I enjoyed my night. Now onto the food…. Very good! It took a while to come out, but I believe it was late and the food was made to order so no complaints here! The curry tofu was like butter! The portions were huge! Sooooo good man! I only shared a little! Lol The music & videos were a bit too much "Back it up an jack it my gyal" but  I tuned it out. The atmosphere, food and staff were awesome. I would definitely come back. Big up yaself Vivid Cafe! Xoxoxo

  5. Came here with my Heartbeat for a Knicks game night. He is a regular so it was trusted that it would be a good venue. Parking was typical of Brooklyn streets. Lots of hydrants & driveways. Luckily after doing a couple of Donuts aka circling the block a few times, a spot cleared right in front!!! There's a bouncer who frisks male patrons, so you can feel safe (its Brooklyn! ) The decor is cozy and modern. Dark Wood and leather. Big screens for the game. This is a west indian establishment. Very similar to that of Footprints Café. The bartender is skilled with Cocktails and well mannered. I ordered the famous Rum Punch and it was everything I hoped for. I have a low tolerance, so I was immediately buzzed! My hunnie gave me spoonfuls of his Vivid Pasta which was delicious. Very much like Footprints' Rasta Pasta. I ordered Garlic Penne pasta with Grilled Chicken. The chicken was juicy and grilled to perfection. The vibe was LAX and laid back. The music selection was great. R&B, Soca, Reggae & Hip Hop. A few patrons at most 10 people dining. It was intimate and a relaxing environment I suppose for Happy Hour. My hunnie brags about the cost effective Happy Hour specials here. I hear the Escovich chicken tenders are good. I will be back like Arnold S !

  6. We weren't in the mood to cook and wanted to continue celebrating our three day weekend. We made our way to Vibes, but saw the gate down. We decided to research on Yelp research.

We decided on MangoSeed. En route to the restaurant I decided to call just to make sure they were open. The kitchen was going to close at 9:30pm. We weren't going to make it.

I researched another Caribbean inspired restaurant and came across, Vivid. I was won over when I called and spoke to Ashley. She was very sweet with a bubbly personality.

Vivid is an intimate, quaint Caribbean American inspired restaurant. The staff made us feel comfortable and at home. The music playing in the background was at a decent level which didn't make me feel like I was shouting to speak to babe.

We used our Yelp check-in for a free Vodka shot. Babe pointed out that they give you three options for the Yelp shot check in (Vodka, Rum, Henny). For our drinks, he ordered a Rum Punch and I ordered a Bob Marley. The drinks were on point and snuck up on you, which I love. My drink was so cool, it was in layers. When I mixed it the colors went back together.

To start we ordered the Codfish Cakes for our app. Our entrees consisted of tVivid Pasta with Shrimp. He asked for Jerk and I had mine grilled.

Everything came out at once which I wasn't too happy about. However we throughly enjoyed ourselves and the intimate setting. The food was delicious. I will definitely be back to dine in their backyard.

  7. I stopped by to try this restaurant for caribbean restaurant week .
the restaurant had security at the door when you enter and your bag is checked before your enter. Similar to what you experience when you go to a night club. the place is not very big and has a bar that took up hal fo the restaurant.
For a Saturday night. it was not crowded at all.
My friend ordered the Jerk chicken with rice and peas as well as a rum punch. I had  the honey glazed salmon with rice and peas. I didnt get to try my friends food but she said that it was really good. My salmon was really god but I thought the rice ad peas was just OK.
The service was excellent and our waitress was very helpful.

  8. Hmmmmmmm…

Over 40 minutes. Still waiting for my free shot for checking in with Yelp (Thanks Yelp!!!) and my food (pasta) and my complimentary corn bread AND water…..

My drink (Sexy B*tch) is pretty good, though and came out promptly. Their "happy hour" really wasn't that happy. Lol. $7 Margaritas and an extra $3 if you wanted a flavor. Those are Manhattan Happy Hour prices. Not East Flatbush, Brooklyn. There were $10 specialty cocktails on the menu.

I'm going to chalk service up to it being a busy night and the restaurant being short staffed. I ordered the shrimp vivid pasta and it wasn't bad.

Not far from home, so I May go back and try a different dish.
