3 stars only to Bun Ga Nuong ($8)
My friend highly recommended BGN (Vietnamese Bun, grilled chicken, vermicelli and salad in a bowl with a sweet nuoc cham sauce). It was good but I still like Bun Bo Xao, beef bun (#45), from Pho Bang in C-twon. After I posted how good it was, the price went up discretely from $3.75 to $7.25 in 6 years!. The prices in Chinatown is getting closer to the rest of the city now, BaoBQ ($8) and Pho Bang ($7.25).
Their grilled chicken was what my friend liked and it was tasty but my chicken was dry. The sauce was spicier than I usually experienced but I liked it. I like sweetness in foods in general than sweet things like candy, cookies, cakes…. I rather take sweetness from foods.
I appreciate a smily and willing to help staff members and I agreed with Christopher C. says… "The best thing about this place was the cute girl working here."

After reading the highly rated reviews, we wanted to check out BaoBQ. While close by, we ordered delivery — the whole chicken, dirty rice, sticky rice, long beans, and papaya salad. A whole chicken with four sides and tip for $29 seemed very reasonable and we were excited to give it a try. The delivery took well over an hour and while steaming hot, the restaurant is a few short blocks away.
The chicken was not wrapped whole, it was cut in half and delivered in two separate containers. The sides were not only small, but very bland. I added soy sauce to the dirty rice, which made it better, but overall lackluster and disappointing. The papaya salad wasn't brightly flavored, very one-note. The chicken, while good and moist, wasn't outstanding and not what I was expecting from a Vietnamese BBQ place, it wasn't uniquely flavored or spiced.
Definitely wouldn't recommend.
I was intrigued by the menu, I should had known better than to get a pork bun here. The pork was dry, the bun was wet (liquid y)and fell apart and it took a while.

For W. Village, it's pretty damn good Vietnamese banh mi's! I suggest the pork ALL THE WAY. The rotisserie chicken is a good idea, but just stick with the pork. They also have pork buns (hilariously called McBao's and BimBiBao's) that are a big size and delicious. The pork is tender and flavorful. If you can't do spicy (like moi), hold off on the jalapenos…
Banh mi special (inspired by Subway's $5 footlongs) are only $5 – normally $6-7, pork buns are $3 each. Stay away from the spring rolls. They look awesome because they have the vermicelli outside, but it was way too salty…
For those who aren't lucky enough to get legit banh mi's in Chinatown or similar, this place is close to legit.
