Came here on a Friday night. It was about half empty and full of annoying drunk 30 year olds. The music was so loud I walked out with a headache. Came here specifically for the wings which turned out to be nothing special.
Absolutely hated the pina verde. If you stand around a table you also have to order through the waitress instead of going to the bar yourself.
This place is really cool, then again my experience was in it's last week of the Santa Parlor theme they put up with tiki type drinks.
We came in and I was hopeful they would keep it going through as it just seemed like the type of fun place where it could be Christmas all year long with lights in Hawaii even though it was in the middle of the city.
We had two cocktails here, very unique; though I think these were recipes made only to go with the theme and would be then changed back to their regular menu.
Very important to state, I was here basically soon after they opened so it was just two of us and the server and bartender were not busy so we chatted, they seemed very cool and like the type of people that would work to ensure you had a good time. That said, I haven't Ben here when it's the normal Boilermaker, or when it's packed, so for that reason, I can't give it a 5 star (yet).
I do have this on my list of places to bring friends for a quick drink if in town before going to dinner or to hang at a speak easy!
This would also be a pretty cool spot to grab a drink when meeting someone up for the first time, where you don't really care about impressing or calling all the shots and just want to get to know someone over a beer. 🙂
Cheers!
Caught between a meh and a hard a-ok. Sazeracs are good, as well as their Pimm's Cup, albeit on the weak side. Employees are cordial and decor is sleek; really love their seats that are along the sides of the establishment. Now onto what I do not love… Onion rings were incredibly salty, ugh. Single burger was average, and surprisingly small. The only food item I liked were the fries. If you can mess up fries then you really need to check on your chef. Imbibers, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like with their wide array of alcoholic beverages. Foodies, I'm sure you'll find a better burger, plate of onion rings, and order of fries elsewhere.
I was actually really surprised by all of the positive reviews after eating here. My friends and i came in for some burgers and wings and drinks and left very unimpressed. I ordered the veggie burger which tasted like asian inspired cole slaw. It was…not great. My husband ordered a burger with bacon and ate only about half of it because he thought it was so bad. I also ordered the veggie chips which was literally a bag of Taro chips poured into a bowl served with a tasteless orange colored sauce. The onion rings were HEAVILY breaded and when fried just became a greasy mushy mess. The wings were also HEAVILY breaded and fried and unpleasant to eat. The fries were fine. I really wouldn't come back here.
Some of the best bar food around–burgers, wings, and fries are all AWESOME, and the side portions are huge. Everything is so well priced, and the happy hour is also great ($4 beer and $8 cocktails until 8pm). The place wasn't crowded at all when we came at 7pm on a Wednesday, which was kind of weird but fine by me. Definitely one of my new favorite happy hour spots in East Village
Sixteen taps – craft beers and one cider. Cocktails run $8.00. Bartender was nice enough. Music is loud current rock and alt. Seating is a combo of nice looking banquettes, a couple of high top tables, maybe eight bar stools.
I had a decent cocktail and some bar snacks. I could tell that the chicken wings and the onion rings were both cooked from scratch. The onion rings were very good. I was so-so on the wings – the coating was a bit heavy.
Good local place, not worth a trip.
Boilermaker is a really great bar – large beer selection, killer playlist, and a cozy, intimate vibe. The place is a little small, but somehow I never felt cramped or claustrophobic. I didn't get to try the 'noms, but from what I could see and smell, they looked solid. (Think fried appetizers and burgers.) By midnight, the place was busy, but not overwhelmingly packed, which for me is the ideal for a Saturday night in the LES. Definitely look forward to coming back!
