Rowena’s Delight and Cakehouse

“The combo platter is my go-to and runs you only $6 including a soda or bottled water.”

“Their fried pork, or the Lechon Kawali as my Mama taught me how to say while brandishing a slipper to my face, is the best in Jersey City.”

“There are many other turo-turo places much closer to me, but this one is worth the short drive.”

  1. First off, Tita Rowena, the owner, is the kindest businesswoman I know. She as some ind of connection to my mom and whenever she sees me, she's just lovely!

The combos are no more than $6, I believe. Rice and two side dishes. My favorites are the kare-kare and sisig! Delish, I'd explain, but I say, just do it.

For those so say that the restaurant isn't in a place you'd want to be, I say, don't be a p****. If you're looking for authenticity and flavor, you have to come to these places.
Otherwise, you're missing out if you're afraid of leaving your own stoop, stoop-kid! *cue Hey-Arnold theme song*

  2. Got here just in time as the after-church crew started to trickle in.   Had a variety of traditional Filipino dishes from sisig, lechon kawali, dinuguuan, and the house special kare kare.   Got the last serving of the kare kare – it was homemade and extra delicious with a side of bagoong . Halo-halo had a nice piece of flan on the top and was also well made.  Combo prices include a drink which makes this place an even better deal.   Parking can be a nightmare as there is no designated lot and street parking is hard to come by.

  3. Friendly server, but I don't understand why a person would recommend this eatery to me. It's far from being special. What I was expecting to get was order to cook Palabok, but the food is pre-cook ready to eat and display in the usual Filipino buffet style counter, in Tagalog term 'turo-turo'. If you are in NJ and want to see a row of Filipino establishments, drive to Newark Ave. Rowena is the only Filipino in the block in an area where you don't want to be so head to the other side of JC and you'll get more choices of Filipino restaurants.
