3.5 stars for me.
I used to work in the area and always explored some places to eat for lunch. This was a spot i really wanted to try. Since i'm poor, i should've looked at the menu prior to sitting down. The prices for meals (burger, fries, drink) were a bit pricey…i knew i was getting a better quality burger than BK and McDs, but i couldn't justify $10 for lunch…I opted for a regular BG burger at the counter. I like that it's made to order and the place was fairly busy with other lunch patrons so the wait was "long" for someone on a 30 minute lunch break.
The burger was good. It reminded me of In and Out/Shake Shack style burgers which i like. The issue was the portion for the price. I know its LIC and all, but for lunch, it was a bit expensive. I doubt even if i opted for the meal/fries i would've been full.
I would return if i'm in the area to try other things on the menu.
Local neighborhood burger joint with many different burger toppings to choose from to customize to your liking. Couldn't help but being reminded of a local Five Guys restaurant with all the choices but this place has TV screens.
not a bad burger but was a little on the small side. for the price of their double cheeseburger, in the LIC area its actually not that bad of a deal, however when stacked against the burgers at neighboring Corner Bistro & Dominies Hoek, this one falls a little short. Great fries tho + they have great milkshakes !
Never again. Yes, the burgers are good. But two hours to deliver when we live within a 5 block radius. Never order from them if you want your food quickly. Also their menu is not updated correctly. I found that the staff was a little indifferent when I spoke with them I wasn't too pleased about this. So if you feel like gambling with your tummy and waiting on slightly expensive burgers then place your bets.
I recommend going to the spot and sitting down to eat. We have done this many times and had a way better experience. Their location is clean and their appearance is tip top shape. Plus every on site seems to be very good in person just not on the phone.
I think this is my choice burger joint in LIC, even better than Petey's. One of Burger Garage's greatest assets is the space itself – several booths and counter space to sit with your family, friends, or significant other to gorge on some quality hamburguesas. I also appreciate the nice selection of craft brews, which during happy hour are only $3 a pint. Ayoooo!
The burgers here are cooked fresh, and you can taste the short rib, angus, and high quality meats that go into each patty. I ordered the BG burger with bacon, which featured a fluffy bun (much like Shake Shack's) and a killer BG sauce, which I think was a garlic, cayenne ketchup-mayo concoction. The fries are also stellar, crispy and abundant. I enjoyed them with their chipotle mayo ($1.50 extra I think), which yes, was worth it. I also am a big fan of how they do their onion rings, but it's certainly not for everyone. Each ring features a LOT of fried batter, but when you bite into it, your teeth actually grab the onion with every bite. (I've had onion rings that quickly devolve into Fried Batter feat. onion on the side.) Big plus.
While the burgers are very tasty but necessarily not groundbreaking, the good service, variety of menu items, and beer selection make Burger Garage all in all a fun and filling burger joint experience.
Onion rings are good! Cod fish burger a bit too bready. Chill decor. Would return when if I was in the LIC area again.
Reasonable burgers, unreasonably priced.
Was delightfully surprised to find a such a good burger in LIC. Ordered the double cheeseburger ($8) with most of the fixings. Patties were moist and skillfully cooked; it was clear that the rib/chuck/brisket blend was a higher class of patty than that of usual fast food, and the healthy size allowed this quality to be tasted. That being said, patties were slightly richer, but less umami-packed than Shake Shack's, probably because they weren't browned to a Maillard crisp (which would improve the burger). Overall, with In-n-Out-style sponge bun, this represents a very good Midwest-classic type of burger.
Black and white shake ($5.50) was smoothly blended, and was easily consumed by straw alone. No icy chunks. No malt option. While excellent, was mildly disappointed that it wasn't served with the stainless steel refill that is de rigueur at any self-respecting diner.
Altogether, meal without fries (also good) set me back $14+. While ultimately a satisfactory diner-type burger, premium-level price will certainly limit visit frequency. However, given its location in midst of the LIC archology boom, they'll probably be fine.
This burger is clearly not medium rare and though tasty it's not what I asked for and neither is that noted on my receipt and when I went to pick up my order the blank stare from the guy confirmed the ostensible cluelessness of the place. Three dollar Lagunitas was a bright spot.
Chili dog & Sierra Nevada IPA: With a combo like that what can go wrong?? And it did not go wrong: the dish was nice and simple. And tasty!
Would I return there? Yeah, absolutely. Good food with a plenty of nice options for a beer.
