I swung by red ribbon on the way back from Phil Am. The store changed their layout so it looks like they increased the space behind the counter but not it looks like they also eliminated some of the seating. We are disappointed they discontinued the sago & gulaman. The pastries such as mamon and ensaymada are always delicious. I just wish they kept some of their food menu. The chicken ensaymada was a bit dry and lacked sole flavor. The pancit palabok was good but not the best I've had. I will come back but only for the pastries and desserts.
Mango Cake, Pandan, Ube and Mocha Mamon, Ensaymada! All of which is very good. Right on 5 corners and next to Phil-Am, it's part of the Flip food shopping scene. I've not had their hot food but the baked goods are all good.
This was a big thing having a red robin open up in jersey city for the filipino community! Once you walk in there are tables to right, they have a process where you order on one side (far left) and pick up on the other end (far right). I must say besides the cakes and pastries what i come here for is the palabok which is their noodle poncit dish..amazing!

If you don't want to follow my footsteps and actually want to eat like a human being, get a slice of the mango cake, or get a mango roll. I look forward to special occasions so that I can have an excuse to buy a whole cake, and not feel like a gluttonous piggie.
The Halo Halo is also worth noting, the ice cream on top is so amazing, I want to just eat a whole tub of it, while the mango bits fulfill my recommended fruit intake of the day.
Lastly, the ube cake can be a bit hit or miss. Unlike the mango cake that is always moist, the ube cake can be dense at times. However, if you never had it, I do recommend you giving it a try, particularly if you are a fan of Asian flavors.
Nothing special about this dessert spot. Most of the pastures here are familiar pre made cakes and they only act as a distributor. I did try their Halo Halo which was pretty good. It definitely had the mix of fruity favors and sweets and it does come with vanilla ice cream and a small piece of flan. Not too bad…. Although I was disappointed it didn't come with Ube ice cream.
The actual layout is pretty inviting, clean and quiet. A good spot to have a quick hangout and dessert. This place is lacking originality.
Meh. Red Ribbon is alright; actually, it's nothing special. Their baked products are good, but the offerings are a little too typical: Mamon, Butter Mamon, Ube Mamon, Ensaymada, and Taisan among others. They also have Filipino empanadas keeping warm in a mini warmer/display case on the back counter. Many go for their cakes, which I must admit, look really good. The Mango Cake is becoming more popular, but the Ube Overload is a classic must try; the regular ube cake is good, too. Neither of them are excessively sweet.
If baked goods aren't your thing, there is arroz caldo (a savory rice porridge similar to congi), pancit palabok, and halo halo. There's a good amount of seating. There's a small parking lot (pay to park) past Casa Victoria. Outside of that, it's side street parking only.
To be honest,I never would have come to Red Ribbon had my go-to bakery,Monteleone been open.Unfortunately for me(not really),when the hubby's birthday rolled around,Monteleone was on vacation and my emergency backup for the birthday cake became Red Ribbon.Having read rave reviews of the mango cake,I decided to go with that as the birthday cake since the hubs loves mango.
I called a day ahead to find out if i could just walk in and get a cake or whether I had to book in advance and the lady on the phone was very polite and let me know I could just drop in to get the cake.I went in around 6 pm the day before the birthday and the place was packed.I was a tad apprehensive as to whether they would run out of mango cake and I would have to resort to my (non-existent) baking skills.Thankfully, no such horror occurred and the girl at the counter was extremely efficient and quick to put the writing on the cake for me when I said I was in a hurry..Even though the place was full,I was in and out with the cake within 10-15 mins.The cake was extremely affordable at around $20.
I was a little tempted to try out the purple ube cake but I put that craving on hold for a later date.They also have chicken/beef empanadas and various other Filipino stuff I wish I knew the name of.The mango cake was a hit with the hubby and I too loved the fact that the cake was so airy and the mango in it was exactly the right amount of sweet (not at all overpowering).I am going to be back to try some of the other goodies here.
p.s..they have a seating area here in case you just cannot wait till you get home to sample the treats.
Essentially this is Philippines' version of Panera, but with more emphasis on the baked goods, and less on foods. In contrast with Panera, I somehow get the feeling that they don't actually bake on premise. Seems to be more of a shop that may have a central distribution bakery somewhere, not sure, no confirmation, just a theory. One clue that lead me to believe this was that when I asked for a particular cake, they said that they get their deliveries frequently and to come back.
You walk in – and you're not hit with an aroma of freshly baked pastries, instead you're greeted with nicely laid out displays of pre-packaged foods (most of which has a pre printed nutritional and ingredient panel). They have cake slices to dine in, or take out, as well as 4 or 5 hot food items.
For a dessert I tried their Halo-Halo. It was OK, not great – memorable, in a don't order this again – type of way, but not a waste of my calories. Wasn't a fan of the pineapple puree that was swimming in it, just my preference.
The Mango cake was very good though – seems to be a popular selection if you ask me.
