  1. Sometimes I like to engage in activities that make me extra hungry for food, and even with that, this food tastes so bland! I know I'm paying for cheap Chinese food, but add a little more soy sauce, even MSG, something!

I won't be coming back here again. I don't know why it took me so long to figure out that this place lacks any taste at all.

I usually get the beef and broccoli and sesame chicken, and it's all very, very bland. There's not much more to say to that.  The white rice is just as good as any other place I guess.  There's one neutral comment!

  2. Disclaimer: This is a fast-food take-out restaurant. Do not come here expecting authentic Chinese food. Definitely don't come here expecting Shanghai cuisine.

We knew what we were getting ourselves into, so we were pleased with the results. After living in Philly for 6 years, I wanted some food-truck-quality Chinese food at food-truck prices. Though Shanghai is not as cheap as a food truck would be, it was still within budget.

The boneless spare ribs tasted very much like char siu. I loved that it came with pork fried rice! The chicken eggplant was a bit bland, and the eggplant wasn't as soft as I would've liked. But the portions! For both entrees, there was so much meat/eggplant compared to rice! Very generous! The complimentary spring roll was also pretty good. We were also given 2 free drinks with our meals. The scallion pancake was underwhelming, so I wouldn't get it again.

Overall, it was a good experience. Shanghai has decent Americanized Chinese food for good prices, given the quantity of the food. I'll definitely be back if I'm craving this kind of food again! Oh, it's also a bonus that they're open at 9PM.

  3. I have had this place two times while visiting a relative in the hospital. The food is really great! It tastes great, looks great and is decently prices. Lunch specials even run until 4:30! The staff is very friendly also.

Solid food all the way around!

  4. Four stars for takeout, this isn't fancy ass Chinese food.

That said, the take out was tasty, not overly salty and tasted fresh enough. Two lunch combos and a thing of veggie rice was $21.

Delivery was quick quick quick, just what you need when you're feelin' Chinese in a whim.

  5. So I am extremely picky when it comes to take out Chinese food in NYC because sometimes it just taste like trash mixed with grease.  My husband told me about this place he stumbled upon on the East Side that reminded us of our fav place back home in St Louis.

We ordered Beef Lo Mein, Shrimp fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken.  Everything stayed hot for a 20 mins drive home.  Everything tasted fresh and not over seasoned.  We waited only about 10 minutes for our food and the staff was friendly as well.  The establishment is very clean and has about 5 tables you can sit down and eat for a quick bite,

    I will be back.

  6. It may just be in my head but this place keeps getting better and better. My last ordering experienced topped any of my last excursions downtown, and the food was steaming hot and plentiful. Our wonton soup container came bursting with wontons, so fantastic for the price point. Their pork dumplings are in my top 5 (just like the seasoning/juice to meat ratio).

    Keep it comin' Shanghai!

  7. Great food in a nice atmosphere — a rarity in NYC Chinese food.  The service could have been a little friendlier, and I think fortune cookies need to be standard (we Americans expect such things).  However, the food was tasty, and the family atmosphere was great for a bigger family dinner.

  8. I'm not a picky Chinese food eater. Just get me some beef and broccoli, add some white rice on the side, and voila, I'm happy! Came here because this place this less than a block from my apartment and had great reviews.

I got the beef and broccoli. The beef was really chewy and tasted a little off so the next time I went, I got the chicken and broccoli and some dumplings! Why do they make the skin so think on dumplings these days?! I like that they still offer the lunch special on the weekends.
