I can't believe I forgot to write a review about this place. I came here a few months ago with my friend for happy hour/a bite to eat. This is a more "upscale place." We sat at the bar.
Mind you, both my friend and I work at huge companies in NYC and came there for a reason. However, we were joking around about how we needed to find a happy hour and get some cheap drinks. Why pay 20$ a drink when you can pay $7?
Anyway, we asked the bartender which drink he would recommend as we joked about loving the low price of happy hours in New York. We weren't there for a fancy dinner. We were there for happy hour, clearly. The bartender did not smile at our joke at all, but instead was rude and smug to us. He didn't ask us if we wanted any food, so we had to flag him down to order 2 fish tacos each.
The tacos were awful. There were bones in the fish and they were cold.
The bartender completely ignored us for the couple hours we were there and was the most smug and rude bartender I have ever encountered in NY. He clearly didn't think we deserved to be there even though we were dressed professionally. He probably thought we wouldn't tip well… Well…We decided that his tip would match his service. About $2. For the both of us.
Now I'm all about tipping, but not when someone treats my friends and I like dirt.
I don't regret it because when we were on our way the bartender yelled "yea nice tip by the way." As if he deserved more…He certainly did not.
I will not be back unless I know this guy is fired. There are plenty of other happy hours in NY where my friend and I will feel respected and welcome.
I like this place. Perfect for lunch. Lots of tasty dishes, friendly service, and nice setting. This if a find in the Flatiron.
I came here for a casual dinner with my mom, and there was plenty of space on a Thursday evening. When you step in, they very much have the feel of a casual spot somewhere out in Long Island down, with fixtures and a design that feels like you're in a restaurant built in a beach house, not next to a lot of construction in Flatiron. Seating was straightforward, and our waiter was alright – our food was brought quickly, but he forgot my beer order twice. Drink selection is decent as well; in keeping with the Long Island theme, there were beers abound from the island, as well as a plentiful listing of North Fork wines.
The food itself was okay, with the appetizers being a little overpriced, while the entrees being pretty decent by NYC standards. I started with the fried oysters (minimum order of 3 – not stated on the menu, and suspiciously looked like a rule made up on the fly). They're presented nicely on the shell, but the flavor is somewhat plain – as is the arugula that is served with it. The lack of any kind of dressing was a bit surprising, as I've never heard anyone rave about eating arugula (in this case, also quite dry) plain before. I went with the duck for the entree, and while the skin was crisped well and had that nice juicy, fatty flavor, the rest of the duck meat was also quite plain. The arugula was served as a side salad, so it was more edible than before, but it was still on the dry side.
I'd probably come back for drinks and maybe a happy hour for oysters, but otherwise, the restaurant isn't too memorable from a food perspective. The value is decent and the ambiance takes you away from the riffraff of the city, but the food that's delivered isn't quite up to NYC specs either.
Came here on a Saturday night with another 3 friends, we were very surprised as we had a great dining experience, both food and service were excellent, but yet the place is not busy.
We all checked in on Yelp and got a free glasses or Rose, which was surprisingly good. We all had soup as salad as starter, then ordered Paella and Spicy Seafood stew as the main. Food was on point, the only thing is that the table bread wasn't great, but overall, we were very happy with the food.
Service was excellent, our waitress was lovely and attentive, we had a great time.
Will come back again!
Ordered kale caesar with chicken through MealPass the night before. For the whole morning I really wasn't feeling it because I suddenly craved something heavy. But when I dug into it the salad turned out a delight. It was heavy on dressing and the croutons were some of the best I've had (edit: wow what a random thing to say – the best croutons I've had. but they were really good…). The chicken breast was substantial in size and was moist and well seasoned. The only gripe is baby greens are not firm enough to withstand the heavy douse of dressing so a lot of leaves wilted.
Our first 2 dozen of oysters were small and broken (I think you voice that to the waiter, he/she will change it for you) Our 3rd dozen were huge and fresh.
On a thursday night, we enjoyed their happy hour drink as well as ordering some of their bar snack. Mainly, we were here for the $1 oyster. They were so nice to move us from the bar to the a table for more space. It's a pleasant night to meet up with friends and just chat without all the loud music and crowd.
Quick update:
Happy hour game is strong here- sit by the bar to take advantage. (Try the Rosemary Bramble! Loved it)
Tried their lobster roll and, in this case, bigger is DEFINITELY better. It's served with a dressed salad and pesto salad. Straight forward, fresh and tasty.
From the hostess to the runners the service continues to be very strong- keep up the solid effort Sagaponack!
As for my Sagaponack pronunciation efforts… still struggling. 🙁
