Service + Fresh Juice + almojabanas (pan de bono) + cafe con leche are 5 stars. The service is so friendly. My fresh juice order is labor intensive (definitely more than 5 ingredients) and she does it w a smile. Although service is slow on 11am Wednesday their genuine friendliness makes it OK. The custom juice option is great. Everything comes out fresh and delicious. I will never stop praising their almojabanas. Some ppl call it pan de bono. Their eggs (huevos pericos) are always delicious – fluffy, flavorful, and never salty or bland.
I always come here after a hard day's night. The recent routine these days: I run in, grab two cafe con leches and some empanadas for my snack right before dinner which basically comes out to around 5 or 6 dollars. Not bad at all. I noticed that they have baked and fried empanadas. I always see spinach, beef, and chicken empanadas when I get there. I have tried their entrees which are very delicious as well. I always see the lady at the counter around 6 pm-ish, and she is really friendly. Something about this place makes you want to stay in and relax. Time almost slows down and you want to just have more food. When I was working full-time, I found myself relying on their dinner menu often, and very often than not, I was extremely satisfied with the taste and the portion size. (Please see other reviews.) I love visiting and ogling their pastries and wondering what's inside each of them…? I mean I would eat each and every one if I could! You can really eat all three meals here. Lol.
Great place for a little Colombian brunch. Baked goods, empanadas (I had the empanada con carne), sopas, fresh juices. I'm sure I'll be back.
I can't believe I used to work a few blocks away and always walked right past this place. If it weren't for a friend, I would've probably never gone in because I thought it only sold baked goods but I'm so glad that I finally came! El Rico is sensibly priced and the food is a pleasant surprise. I went with a friend who got their shrimp tacos and I got the fish tacos. The portion sizes are just right and the food tastes fresh (a stale fish taco is one of the worst things…). Although we only came for lunch, I'll keep this place in mind the next time I want dessert, smoothie, or a juice because they have a wide selection of all of the above. Yet another gem in Jackson Heights.
I think the pastries are just okay, I prefer the Uruguayan bakeries in the area. The spinach empanada is on the smaller side for $1.50. They're good, but the bakeries on 86th Street are much better. I didn't like their yuca bread at all. However, we really enjoyed their burritos. They have a small selection of hot dishes for breakfast/lunch/dinner. We ordered a steak, as well as a spicy pork burrito. The ingredients are very fresh. It comes with an array of salsas if you need more spice. The agua Jamaica was very good, though much sweeter than the ones I've had before.
A pretty small bakery. I didn't take any pastry, but the lunch food is not impressive. The chicken soup is not very flavorful, and the pasta is too soft. Service is good though.
This place has decent brunch (we had the huevos divorciados and the one that comes with the green sauce – I've now forgotten the name!) and they were good and presented gorgeously. The walls have lovely prints of Colombian master Botero, and the service is friendly if a little slow.
