Love this place! They have great soups! And they let you try them before you order them. There are so many options!
The service is friendly and fast – the seafood gumbo is really tasty! I'll definitely be back to have more soup!
Since Hale & Hearty is near my school, I often come here for a quick healthy snack. I usually get a small salad (which is enough for me, even though a large is around $.30 cents extra) and add the toppings. Some toppings like grilled chicken is more, but carrots and tomatoes are included in the price.
The soups are good as well, but they are quite expensive.
I don't get Hale and Hearty. People swear by it, I see locations all over the city, but I just don't understand the fuss. How is it different than a Panera or a Pret or an Au Bon Pain? Maybe it isn't, maybe it's just personal preference and I'm reading too much into this.
Despite my confusion over its rabid fan base, I did like Hale and Hearty. I had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich — it was good (I especially liked the sauce) and exactly what I wanted at the time. I think I should order a soup next time, though. Especially considering the name, Hale and Hearty Soups. Maybe then, I'll get it.
I'm always skeptical about the freshness of the food at these kinds of places because it sits out for such a long time. They have so many options for different soups that I can't imagine the turnover rate is too high. I've now been here twice because there just really aren't a lot of healthy eating options around this part of the city. Prices are borderline unfair. This is the type of place where everything looks cheap per item, but it all adds up very quickly. Competitor chains have similar menu deals (eg. half a sandwich and a small soup) for cheaper prices.
I was pleasantly surprised about the sandwiches, which are tasty with unique flavor combinations. I got an avocado-egg-tomato sandwich with onions and arugula on it. I like how you can buy a whole or a half sandwich depending on how hungry you are. My soup (10-vegetable) wasn't so great, it was very salty and mostly had green beans and carrots in it (the vegetables that can easily come from a can. Coincidence?). I've had other Hale and Hearty Soups from other establishments (they supply to lots of restaurants/cafes) and they have been very good.
The menu is very overwhelming and they handwrite it (hard to read). Not all the soups cost the same. The customize-your-own salad was about $10, which is very expensive in my opinion. They had some premade, cheaper salads in the front refrigerator that looked promising. Service was confusing, too. Several different people were helping me out. I had to specifically ask for the bread that was supposed to come with the soup for free. This chain does not have a relaxed vibe- it's get in, get your food, and get out. However, if you happen to be in the area, this may be your only bet for healthy food.
This place always delivers on taste!!! Whether it be a salad, sandwich, or soup, its always fresh and delicious. I have been coming for years and this location is always busy but on point. Even for delivery once, they said expected delivery time was 1.5 hrs. I was like what?! Hope they worked on that. Yesterday I met with a friend for lunch. She wanted a salad and I recommended Hale and Hearty. This place once again busy. So I had to wait a few to order and had to wait a few to pay. I ordered a small romaine with all the works, chicken, chick peas, onions, feta cheese, beets and croutons. I was unsure about what dressing to purchase looked at the menu board and saw light chili lime. The staff said would you like to sample it first. I said sure thank you. I loved how she put a cucumber in the sample cup to make it more enjoyable. Great worker and super friendly. I went for the chili lime and it was great. The salad was amazing. I love it. The soups are delish as well. Very hearty however a lil salty to my liking. The sandwiches are great. My favorite is the mediterranean chicken wrap. Omg delicious and flavorful. What a great wrap. So if your in the mood for something delicious and fresh, go to Hale and Hearty!!!
What a great place for a quick eat! The soups are amazing. One of my favorite soups of all time is the Clam Chowder and this place makes it fantastic! Pair it with the sourdough bread and you will be satisfied! The place gets super busy on rush hours, but there are many people working behind the corner and they move at a fast pace! This place always keeps me warm.
I come here every Tuesday and Thursday to grab dinner after work and before class at Hunter. The staff is consistently friendly, give great sized portions and last week, when I forgot my wallet in my other purse, the manager comped my salad and told me to have a great day and promise to come back. Thank you kind sir, for making my night after a frazzling day of teaching before going to night class. You turned my night around.
All HAIL the soup king HALE & HEARTY!
Some of H&H's soups remind me of soups of the Caribbean, my home! Then there are others that I've never heard of much less tried and I enjoy sampling their many soup selections.
I also like their fresh salads.
There is one thing I didn't like. We usually get delivery but as it was a cool Sunday I decided to walk the 3 blocks or so.
As I entered the space the cashiers were telling customers that they were only accepting debit or credit no cash. I didn't ask if I was a one off, I was just grateful that along with cash I had also brought a card. That was okay, maybe they had an issue with their safe or whatever.
What I didn't like was after I ordered my New England Clam Chowder (an old favorite of mine), the lady asked me if I would prefer the 7 grain bread, some other type of bread OR crackers??? Huh???
When we order food via delivery service, they ALWAYS bring both so I didn't see it necessary to have to now choose simply because I walked to the store. What's up with that H&H? Hmmm
The space though small wasn't filled so I sat for a bit and had my "freshly" squeezed orange juice. The clams in my chowder though as juicy as it usually is, was a bit overcooked.
I like H&H
The End.
