OMG this place is heaven. Its a bit pricey but it was definitely worth it. I had the brown stew chicken, yellow rice, curry shrimp and cabbage. It was delicious, fresh and hot! There were so many choices I had no clue where to start. I will be back again before I leave the area.
When you noticed that the after work line is all female, without a shadow of doubt, you know that the food is proper to bring home. It seems that the seafood is the top pick. I noticed how the salmon was glistening in its tropical sauce. It called to me. But everyone was choosing the fried crab and prawns, as a side dish. I joined the line by the front door. That pan was swapped out before I paid for my food. Very popular! The reach in cooler for the drinks was not cold. I grabbed the pineapple ginger and pink Ting and was alarmed. Good thing I noticed a cooler behind the counter. A sorrel and an Irish Moss filled the order. The takeout line moved as fast as the 2/5 trains dropped people off. From entry to exit took about nine minutes. It was a little pricey. But I would have dropped that much in a bistro.
My salmon was moist. A nice five ounce portion, coupled with a sticky pumpkin rice, and crisp cabbage and carrot medley. No complaints.
Gold Star, Gold Star, Gold Star………… i want to love you but I can't.
First time I had food from this location i thought it was great, however after a while the quality of the food became very inconsistent. I don't know if the restaurant recently had legal trouble because of the big IRS notice on the door causing it to be closed for a few days. Since the food has never been the same!!
So I'm not sure if this place is 24 hours but they are literally open no matter what time I arrive! I've only ordered the oxtail with rice and peas but they are NOT stingy on the oxtail. I have been to Gold Star about 5 times, and they are always consistent with their portions. Located on White Plains Road there is a lot of competition with other Jamaican restaurants, but Gold Star is number one. BIG UPS TO GOLD STAR!!!
