Ice House Cafe
“I see a lot of the negative reviews talk about long wait times and slow service, but the charm of the place really is the family, neighborhood, "from scratch" vibe.”
“The decor was just very quaint-like something you find outside of NYC.The view was beautiful and you could even go out back to see the boats.”
“They do not accept credit/sebit cards so bring enough cash for at least $24 per person.”

"If we walk away, we're going to look even more broke."
So said my dining companion as we peered over the menu at Icehouse Cafe, a tiny restaurant by the foot of the Throgs Neck Bridge. Actually, it looks more like a trailer than a restaurant, so it's highly misleading and kind of gives off an image of exclusiveness. Standing out as expatriates from the local bus lines, we felt as if we were about to walk into a fishing shack where we would be chased out with pitchforks.
But we were wrong on several counts. The view totally makes up for the trailer-like exterior, as it's right on the water with the bridge lights illuminating the sky. The atmosphere is casual and very friendly, not at all shack-like. Service is prompt and helpful.
But the FOOD. The food is epic. Portions are humongous, which explains the prices ($14 for chicken parmigana). You will walk outside rolling, I can assure you. The food is also very hot and has that certain homemade taste (it's hard to explain, but you're going to have to trust me, because I am a doctor. A pretty doctor).
A definite must visit if you ever find yourself wandering Locust Point.
The service here really is terrible. I came at a slow time – 3 pm on a Sunday. There was one server who I greeted at the door instead of the other way around. Had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to even get water. Food came quickly but I had to chase the server down to get anything else. Literally, after seeing her walk by my table at least 5 times without turning to me, I had to follow her to kitchen to get a 2nd drink. Evidently a single diner is not worth her time. Too bad, the food was decent. Just needs to get rid of the attitude problem. Won't be back to find out.
Located deep in Throggs Neck close to Silver Beach, the Ice House is a small, family-owned restaurant serving up solid food.
The building is essentially a converted trailer; it's unassuming on the outside but the inside is very nice – sort of nautical themed with light blues and lots of windows with views of the water. The menu consists mainly of Italian food – a nice variety with a "healthy choice" and lunch section.
We skipped apps and just had mains – I went with the chicken and broccoli rabe hero sandwich and my brother had the lobster ravioli. I enjoyed my sandwich, the bread was soft and they were generous with the broccoli rabe, albeit the chicken breast was really thin and was too small for the bread. My brother enjoyed his dish – said it was some of the best lobster ravioli he's had. Service was good – our waiter was friendly and attentive.
I enjoyed my experience at Ice House. I wasn't blown away by the food, but the prices were good and for what they are they do a good job. I hear they have a reputation for amazing wings so I would return for those and to explore their menu more.
I think that their food is good when you go in to the resteraunt but the take out isn't. They are quite pricy and I don't find that they have the best seafood in throggs neck. The people are amazing and very nice though.
