  1. I have been going to Sandy's since 1991. The food is great.  I love their aloo pie with Chana. Their doubles are the cats meow, but the main reason I always go to Sandy's is their shrimp roti, It's amazing. The staff always tries to get the customers out quickly and is very helpful.  My only gripe with Sandy's is over the years the portions have gotten smaller.  The food is great but we get less of it now.  At one time they where very generous with their portions.  But their food is great otherwise.

  2. I'll start by saying that I don't like doubles and I am picky with my West Indian food…but the doubles or aloo pie with shrimp curry and pepper sauce are AMAZING!! Perfectly seasoned and really reminiscent of at home cooking. The staff is always nice,  helpful and quick. Also, there is a small spot to sit and eat and the restaurant is always clean.  Fantastic place to satisfy the craving for doubles, roti or curry.

  3. Their food is the worst made my sister and her husband sick for 3 days!!! The food was old and stale and curry was horrible and the service sucked the woman behind the counter was very rude and the place is dirty and dingy…. They need to revamp the whole place along with the employees!!!!VERY MAD MANAGEMENT!!!!!

  4. Best doubles in Town!

I have been going to this place for over two decades, I just don't like the unfriendly staff. It's not so hard to smile, is it? I don't like that look on their faces while they are dishing out my food; it's unacceptable. No complaint when it comes to the food though and the awesome girl always at the register with a smile on her face.

Visit this small, awesome, family owned place for doubles you are bound to remember, days later.

  5. Sandy's is my go-to place for roti, doubles (they even have boneless chicken doubles!), aloo pie, and any Trinidadian Indian delicacy I can think of.

When I lived in Trinidad, our housekeeper was Hindu, and my father and I would go to her house every year on Divali to light deyas and, of course, eat. Her family was pretty poor, but their house was always welcoming, and warm, and, on Divali, fragrant with her cooking. Sandy's reminds me of that place. Their staff is polite and friendly, and the food is good.

I live in Inwood, at the other end of the A line which makes going to Sandy's in Ozone Park a 4-hour commitment. But it's worth it!

My roommate is American, and never had West Indian food before I moved in. Whenever I walk in the door with bags from Sandy's, his eyes light up. I once bought home roti from another famous location in Brooklyn – at one time, well known for good Indian food. The difference in quality was remarkable. Sandy's roti was, far and away, the better choice.

My one complaint about Sandy's: there's this guy who is in the store most days, selling CDs and DVDs. Apart from the nuisance of being asked to buy something, he plays his music WAY too loudly, sometimes to point of having to shout out your order to the staff. I don't know how they can stand it.

Will that stop me from going to Sandy's? Absolutely not!! Loud music/Four hour commute for a Sandy's Roti?? No problem!! 🙂

  6. Great roti shop on Liberty Ave. Great selection, and really good west Indian food. Very good dumplings too.

  7. My GO2 love there doubles always eat it and tell every one from Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn to buy there doubles and there service is quick and and the staff is so nice

  8. I've been coming here since I was a child and its always been my family's go-to spot for takeout when my Mom is too lazy to cook. The best doubles, aloo pie, and macaroni pie (corner piece, of course) since I can remember. It's usually pretty busy but thank god the soca music is bumping so you don't really mind waiting on the line sometimes. The staff is usually fast with assisting customers but whenever staff has to work the register always expect an attitude from whoever the person may be. At my last visit here about two weeks ago, I made small talk with the gentleman standing behind me and after talking about "staff attitude" he said "you're not getting authentic west indian food if the female staff members don't have attitudes"…. whatever that means.
