  1. So what I had actually gone to was the Korilla truck, by 18th st and 5th av. Looking at the photos I can tell that they have less options available than at the restaurant. I ordered a rice bowl, with purple rice, braised tofu, kale, sweets and beets, cucumber kimchi, and Killa hot sauce. They even tell you which foods are gluten free, and vegan! Healthier choices all the way, I loved having an entirely vegan meal. It's like Chipotle, only more exotic. I can't wait to try more at the restaurant on st marks place.

  2. I'd heard about a lot of this Korean/Mexican fusion stuff, but I always just laughed it off, because the idea of fusing Korean and Mexican was, and still is, absurd. However, if you think like me, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of food at Korilla.

First of all, Korilla honestly doesn't feature much fusion at all. It is for the most part a Korean lunch box restaurant, with one or two non-traditional items thrown in to the mix to make it look somewhat Mexican. For example, cheese, or chipotle sauce. The actual food itself is pretty much all straight up Korean, with the bbq pork/beef, kimchee flavors, salads, etc etc.

They also feature a horchata which is probably the best horchata I've ever had, considering I don't like the stuff. I don't think it really goes well with the food, since it's sweet, and the food has kind of a spicy/salty taste to it obviously.

To conclude, I didn't notice much fusion at all here, but it's still an alright place to grab a lunch box to go for around $10.00 pre tax.

  3. Two words: Surprisingly good!

Yesterday was my 1st time trying Korilla BBQ. I wanted to try it last week when their food truck was nearby my office at FiDi area but the line was pretty long and didn't want to bother with the wait – plus, I don't have a long lunch break either. My friend and I came here for dinner and it wasn't busy at all. Service was quick and I got my food in no time.

I ordered the rice bowl (purple rice) with KBBQ pork. For the three sides, I picked the Korean sweet beans, kale, and mushrooms. For the sauce, I picked Korilla sauce. The pork tasted similar to a Penang curry sauce – in my opinion. It was ok and I was able to taste some spicy flavor. The sides were DELISH and good flavors! No complaints at all. I also got to taste my friend's Korean potatoes salad side and it was tasty too. The rice bowl was pretty huge and I had a little bit of food leftover.

I'll come back again to try the bulgogi and other sides.

  4. You turn me right round baby right round!!
Korilla I'm happy to say since my last review over a year ago you have managed to turn my heart all da way around. The prices have gone down since the opening and the workers have been more generous.
That's it… Nothing to add. For me price and quantity were my only gripes. The quality of the food and taste is too dope to beat. Came back several times in the last 2 months. Keep grinding ma Korilla Gorilla Ninjas.

  5. Korean Chipotle..the reason why so many of these 'ethnic Chipotles' are popping up in the Greenwich Village area must be because it is the easiest way to feed broke college kids.

The restaurant is dingy and dimly lit, which made me a little concerned about how sanitary everything was. The service was quick though, since everything was already pre-made and just sitting in hot tubs.

The food was not bad, and for around $11/rice bowl, you get a huge bang for your buck. Anyone else (not me or my friend) could probably stretch out the meal into two smaller meals, which is probably also the smarter and less regrettable thing to do, but oh well.

With all of the other options in the area, I don't know if I will return anytime soon, but I wish them luck!

  6. I got myself the much raved Korean Pulled Pork and Bulgogi with Kimchi Fried Rice, pretty much everything Korilla is know for, So how was it ?
Lets just say I wont be craving for it. Its just OK I couldn't find a single thing my my plate that would entice me, word of caution STAY AWAY from Sweet and Beets its sweet potatoes and beet root and I am pretty darn sure they were honey glazed messed up my whole palate might be one of the reasons I wont find myself back at Korilla anytime soon, pretty sure its them sweet potato god they were awfully sweet. Maybe Just Maybe next time I just get kimchi fried rice with pulled pork, maybe but with Dos Toros around the corner I don't see myself walking 10 min for Korilla.

  7. Tried the bulgogi with wild rice, mushrooms, cucumbers?, string peas with korilla sauce. Pretty good bulgogi with rice. although a bit more expensive that the usual "bowl" I really wouldn't mind coming back here. The food really was banging with flavor. Oh and their horchata is refreshing as hell to mellow out the spicyness of some of the veggies.

  8. I consider this place the "Korean" food version of Chipotle.

I extremely enjoy eating from this place because you get so many options and you can make your dish in any way possible! Super filling and my mouth is watering just thinking about eating from this place again! If you love Korean food, definitely give this place a try!!
