  1. Ehh unfortunately I thought this would be a great place. Not. The set up and decor is nice and clean so you can have one guest or 5 at one table. The service was terrible and there wasn't a lot of customers. It took us 10 minutes to receive our drinks and another 20 minutes for my food to come. The waiter also brought out the food at separate times. The food was OKAY. I've had better. The drinks were GOOD. Not returning.

  2. So I've been to several Caribbean places, most of them pop up and shut down within a few years however this place has been around for at least 10 years.

The place itself is not difficult to locate, it is visible on from the street, the food is exceptional, the pineapple friend rice is probably their number one Dish which i have had a few times.

There are two areas in the place one for dining and one more like a sports bar, i prefer the dining section because its less noisy and you can ask the waiter for any drink from the bar. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.

I would definitely return as i have been multiple times

  3. I had Guyanese food for the first time in my life. This particular restaurant doesn't serve halal food so all we had was fish and vegetarian dishes. The seafood rice dish smelled terribly fishy. The other dishes were just the worst. I would never come back here again. The food was barely edible. I wanted to gag and throw up. This place is a dive restaurant, the dishes reflected that accurately.

Don't get me wrong, the restaurant staff was great, very accomodating, warm, and extremely friendly. I fell in love with the Sorrel they serve there.

The place was also clean and surprisingly relatively quiet, given the fact that a club was connected next door and drunk kids were walking back and forth in front of our booth.

Maybe my opinion would change if I could eat the meat dishes here.

  4. I have eaten here numerous times growing up in the neighborhood. I'm a big fan of the boneless jerk chicken it is seasoned well and very tasty. The seasoned fries are always a must as well! However I'm not a fan of their noodles or fried rice. Although I've tried almost every different type of fried rice and lo mein they offer, they all just seem so bland.

On occasions I do enjoy sitting in for a drink every so often with my girls. The drinks are are always on the stronger side but mixed well. The henny colada is my go-to drink.

The staff are always pleasant for the most part. The people working the register are always on edge and tend to be a little hostile. I assume it's from high call volumes, and mere frustration.

  5. Despite all the other negative Yelp reviews, I actually thought the food was quite tasty. Since we ordered takeout, I will only comment on the quality of the food:

    – Jerk Chicken with noodles – about half a chicken with good seasoning. The chicken was tender and somewhat moist. The chicken sat on a bed of flat noodles which were equally yummy and not too greasy. I found myself eating more and more of this dish.
    – Lamb w/ string beans and cabbage – The cubes of lamb were very flavorful though slightly chewy, sometimes erring on the side of dry while other pieces were moist. The string beans and cabbage were a nice complement to the lamb, adding some texture and crunch to the dish.

We were also given a generous portion of fried rice which I actually found quite yummy. Simplistic in ingredients: rice, egg, carrots, peas and onions, yet so good!! They must have added something else to this, but I couldn't quite pinpoint my palate to.

Overall, I enjoyed the food and am pleased to have tried Guyanese food which feels like a blend of Jamaican and Chinese food. If you're curious to try some ethnic food, but not too far and extreme from the foods you're familiar with, The Nest may be the perfect restaurant to try.

Fried Rice – Fairly standard as you can get. I don't know what was so good about it, but it just tasted so darn good.
