  1. Meh. It's an average diner at best. Open 24/7 so it's good to hit up for some breakfast or a burger after a late night out. Ok food but a bit pricey for what it is. Service is good.

They used to be located just down the street on the corner of 86th and 1st. The old spot where ex-Yank David Wells got stabbed with a fork.

This spot was always kind of beat up and in need of a serious renovation when it was Viand. Seems they fixed it up a bit. Have dropped in here a few times for breakfast and results have been uneven. Pancakes are good, eggs are blah, coffee is sometimes too dark, home fries are ok. Seating is a bit cramped. Food does come out quickly. I feel the food was much better at it's old spot. It's basically still the Viand diner with a new coat of paint and a name change.

I guess if in the area, walking by and starving, it's a good stop for a quick diner bite. Otherwise, there are many other places to eat close by.

  2. It's ok for a diner. Nothing special, you get what you get. Not too pricey tho- some diners are like $16 for an omelette. We enjoyed it, went because it was convenient.

  3. We ordered take out for breakfast / lunch today and it was great. Quick service, huge portions and delicious food.

I ordered the Greek salad and loved it – came with lots of olives, feta, scallion and even artichoke hearts. Try the house dressing it's great.

We also had some breakfast items that were delicious (eggs, potatoes, bacon, toast). Only downfall to this spot is the cost, but it's similar to any diner you'll find in the city. Worth the stop!

  4. Ordered late night delivery. Poor telephone service, order requests not made and I was overcharged.

    The positive –
    – their vegetable omelette is good, but only if it's ordered exactly how they make it I suppose. (I ordered cheese with my veggie omelette and the cheese add on was Barely melted and horrible )
    – the delivery guy was friendly

    The negative:
    – the man taking the order on the phone was extremely rude, barking, snapping at me as I gave my order. It was so bad I was almost laughing
    – Being so thrilled to be back in NYC city after an event outside the city, I even laughed off the rude guy ("oh those late night diner folks ha – ha – ha ") … And peeled off the barely melted slab of Swiss cheese that couldn't be eaten in its form
    – I ordered an English muffin but they gave me toast
    – I requested extra jam for my muffin and they only gave me one
    – charged me $5 more for the menu item than listed on the bill

Recommend for the veggie omelette and some late night Nyc diner attitude 😀

  5. A decent diner in the area. Go in, grab a seat, be handed a menu, choose what you want to eat. We all know you only show up to a diner after drinking and/or if you really want either a grilled cheese or breakfast after 10PM.

I had the grilled cheese deluxe which came with fries, tomato, and lettuce. The grilled cheese was pretty good and they keep hot sauce on the table (which is always a win in my book). The fries were good and crispy. It hit the spot and did its job of soaking up all the beer we had been drinking.

  6. Good diner in Yorkville.

I have been here a couple of times since it moved from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, and it remains a reliable spot in the neighborhood.  It is open 24-7 so it is suitable for any early breakfast and/or late night cravings.  The layout consists of a bar setup to the right with booths to the left and back of the diner.  It is somewhat narrow, though it makes for a cozy diner atmosphere.  The staff has always been very friendly and attentive in my experiences.  I have never felt rushed to finish my meals, which makes for relaxing outings.

The food menu provides good variety similar to most diners, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.  I recently came here for a late night dinner with some friends and ordered the chicken fingers with fries, which were OK.  My experiences when ordering from the breakfast menu have been more enjoyable.  Some of my favorites for breakfast include the egg sandwiches, eggs benedict, and blueberry pancakes.

Overall, this is a good place to grab classic diner food.  I recommend coming here for breakfast, and I look forward to my next visit!

  7. We had lunch at Gracie on 2nd today. The food is great. The prices reasonable. Service fast and friendly.
My issue is the place is packed like sardines. I remember now why I stopped going to Viand. It is a small crowded space. We were put in the front window. I could not feel comfortable. I asked to be moved to a booth. At least I was not sitting on top and bumping in to the person next to and in back of me. Even in the booth servers and bus staff were rushing by in the extremely narrow isle. The place needs a gut renovation.
First they give you complimentary cole slaw and pickle. The cole slaw is really good. We both had grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon and  fries. My fries were sweet potato, a dollar more. The plate looked nice. The tomato and lettuce on the side are wasteful. We didn't eat it. Didn't look appetizing and I'm allergic to tomato. I hate to see food go to waste. I'll know next time to tell them to leave it off.
Service was super fast. Our waiter was wonderful. The four star rating is for something out of the employees control. The size of the space made me knock them down a star. I'll return for a late breakfast, or early lunch, on a weekday. I hope I will enjoy a quiet, non congested, relaxed atmosphere at that time. If not, I'm movin' on to another diner.

  8. A very average diner. Service was rather slow and it was difficult to find our waiter and get his attention. It was also cramped, at least for my taste, as people kept brushing against me as I sat in the booth and whenever the party behind me sat back, I was able to feel it on my end as the seats gave in. I ordered the lumberjack (pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, ham and toast) and while plentiful, largely forgettable.
