Simply put…great.
As a native Staten resident from the mid-island area, this is exactly what the neighborhood and it's surroundings needed. High quality, well-executed New American food with a unique menu outside the predictable and tired Italian dishes. To sell me even more was good service from waitstaff and attentive check-ins from the owner. The atmosphere is stellar in comparison to nearby options that are typically cramped. Metro is expansive…tall ceilings, comfortable booths, perfectly tempered. Of our meals I was most impressed with the half-baked boneless chicken which had a phenomenal rosemary au jus. Impeccably cooked white and dark meat over a bed of red potatoes and kale garnished with fried leeks, a perfect balance for the somewhat health conscious. Additionally, we had complimentary mimosas for Father's Day and garlic bread comes in the bread basket (give me a moment to bask in basic garlicky pleasures).
I may have gone a bit overboard with my adjectives here, but I'm super excited to have Metro so close to my family's home. Can't wait to return to blow through the brunch and lunch menus, too.
