This place is awesome for a quick bite! It's hard to find many places to get breakfast so early on a weekend in my neighborhood but Bagel Boy is definitely a great contender.
The bagels are usually super fresh and they have all the trimmings and spreads you could want. They also have a huge selection of sandwiches and pastas for those looking for non-bagel items. Staff is friendly and ridiculously efficient despite the high volume of people churning through at breakfast hours.
Everyone has their own opinion as to where to find the best bagels in town. But I must declare that Brooklyn has the best bagels of all boroughs. Bagel Boy happens to be a local favorite of mine for many years since I've known them. Growing up in Canarsie, Brooklyn, I used to make a trip out to the one near Sheepshead Bay and it was a certainly a treat (there used to be a really good bagel store in Canarsie but closed down years ago). Now, the trek is no longer needed as this location is close to where I'm living in Bay Ridge. Their lines may be long but the people here work fast to keep the lines moving. They have all sorts of bagel toppings and flavors but I'm always an 'Everything' bagel type of gal. (Just gotta have a bit of everything in life, you know. )Their 'Everything' bagel has a good and consistent sprinkle of poppy, sesame, garlic, salt, and onion. All the flavors just burst in your mouth despite the seeds being stuck in your teeth afterwards. Throw in an egg and sausage and you get this amazing breakfast sandwich for under $5.00. If you're not a bagel fan (I can't imagine why not?), they have plenty of options for sandwiches and salads. There are no tables inside but there are couple of benches outside. Or you can always drive over and double park outside like most people do.
Bagel Boy has been a staple of Bay Ridge since I and many others can remember. Although service is a bit on the gruff side, that's to be expected in Brooklyn to keep the lines here moving. That being said they are efficient and crank out sandwiches and breakfast others with ruthless efficiency at an acceptable price point. I've had bagels with lox, scallion cream cheese, and their version of the rainbow bagel with birthday cake cream cheese. All are great.
Definitely make this one of your breakfast spots before heading to work or for a quick lunch bite if you can't decide where else to go. Also notable IS that they're open late into the day compared to other bagel/breakfast only shops in the area which is a relief. The shop is of decent size setup for a relative to cafes however there's no seating to be found, save for a bench outside. 4.8/5.0
I'm kind of surprised about my experience today with their delivery. I'm a regular customer and have been for a long time. This afternoon I ordered 2 salads which took about 90 minutes to be delivered but I don't even care about that. I'm disappointed at the delivery person, who called me confused about my address. When I politely gave him my address and apartment number, he gave me an attitude and began yelling about how he was given the wrong information. I'm not happy about this and I don't feel right giving Bagel Boy 5 stars anymore. After my experience today, I felt compelled to write an update. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a repeat occurrence, it would be sad to see this place, often known for good service, go downhill.
Bagel boy has been a staple in Brooklyn for years and with just one visit you'll see why !
Everything from the bagels to the spread options and cold cuts are delicious, the coffee and tea iced or hot some frozen drinks options are more than any other bagel store I've ever been to. So you'll definitely have something great to sip on while enjoying your bagel.
The service is always prompt so the customer doesn't wait too long thanks to their big staff .
With multiple locations around brooklyn , no matter where you are theres probably a bagel boy location not too far away.
Do yourself a favor and come enjoy a true Brooklyn bagel
Ps. The pre-baked omelettes are very good
Out of the three bagel shops I tried in New York, Bagel Boy was the best. Murrays in Greenwich Village was a close 2nd. Bagels in NY are supposed to be the benchmark for all others, and BB did not disappoint. I have had some pretty good ones in Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco, and Orange County California, but BB tops them all.
I tried the onion, poppy, and sesame, and they were all fresh baked with a perfect texture. They are made on site all day ensuring the ultimate freshness. Their lox were incredibly tender and flavorful as well.
When in Brooklyn, this is your place for a great bagel breakfast. Since they are open 24 hours, also a great place to soak up the booze after a night on the town. They have another location in Brooklyn and one in Old Bridge NJ too.
Damn, another reason I am going to miss Brooklyn!
I don't care what anyone says, Brooklyn bagels are the best. This is my go to bagel shop since forever. If you ever come around during the weekend, you'll see a bunch of cars double parked outside waiting to pick up some bagels and coffee. As much as I love them, they do have their off days and there may be less cream cheese or whatever, but the bagel is always good. Quick and friendly service for the most part and the prices are reasonable. If you've never been, they are worth a try.
SOLID BAGEL Joint in the hood. Wow. I really do like this place… Albeit hubby says bagels are too puffy and big but I think they're great.
.90 cents a bagel and they're nice and big.
Sometimes I'll get a bagel with avocado comes out to $3.91 but it's huge and they don't skimp on the avocado.
Also people in their are very friendly.
Cream cheese is also good and fresh
