I have gone here for drinks and appetizers and it was a cute little place. Super convenient if you live in the Avalon next store. The main dishes always look good but I have not had the chance to try any yet. Definitely a nice fun spot to try do you are in the area looking for a fun stop to have drinks.
This is a great little spot in an area with not much else around. Their space is shockingly cozy, given the generic new building it's in. They really put a lot of thought into creating a warm, inviting space. Fittingly, the service was great.
Their wide range of price points and options makes this a great neighborhood spot. You can eat for $8 or $28, have a $4 beer or a $12 cocktail. There's something for everyone. I had the mac and cheese and I was really happy with my choice.
My friend and I were lucky to visit Myrtle & Gold on Jazz Night, which started around 7pm just after the end of Happy Hour. We listened to some amazing music from a three-piece band while we drank rose and ate burgers. The service was friendly, the prices are decent, and the space is pretty cool with a good mix of Brooklynites. I can't wait to go back for their brunch which now includes $20 two hour bottomless mimosas, bellinis or Bloody Marys.
Laid back bar with a slightly upscale feel and great burgers!
Good beer and wine selection, happy hour deals and lot of bar food.
Burgers are delicious but can add up quickly with toppings. I've been here a few times and the service is friendly (if at times slow) and the place is always packed, though I've never had to wait for a seat. Cool vibe.
An awesome bar to enjoy happy hour! Quality bar food is an added bonus to happy hour beer/drinks price. Happy hour is 3-7 on weekdays and 12-7 on Saturday and Sunday.
Location and interior:
Located in downtown Brooklyn, not really close to where the crowds usually gather. Has a modern industrial vibe with plenty of seats inside and outside.
Food:
Wings – a hint of Sriracha in the sauce makes a huge difference. It's not overly Sriracha-ry and not that's spicy. It's just gives a good kick of spice to the ordinary wings you've tasted. This is going to be my wing spot for now on unless I find a better place. AND, $10 (happy hour price) for a basket of wings is so good to pass.
Hallouminati – ordered this sandwich cause I love halloumi. The toast is thick and nicely grilled. I would enjoy the toast by itself. It has lots, I mean lots and lots and lots of olives inside it. It's a spread made with black olives and I found it a bit overpowering. You'll definitely be happy with this sandwich if you're an olive-lover.
French fries – thin cut potatoes fried until crispy and golden brown. Good!
I came here with a friend. Im glad this is located in this area because there are not many brunch places where I work, but this will not be my first choice.
They do not have bottomless brunch which always makes me upset. To me thats one of the biggest points of brunch.
I ordered the french toast and a bellini. The bellini was okay, not my favorite. The french toast was fresh but extremely sweet. I could not even finish my breakfast. it does not come with anything else but some fruit which is unfortunate because I was still hungry when i left.
My friend ordered the breakfast nachos and they looked really good but so messy. This is not something you want to order unless you don't mind guacamole and egg yolk etc all over your hands and face.
Overall, it was okay. I would come back but not if I find something better.
This place has great food. The chicken pot pie was like a chicken salad with a deliciously soft puff pastry on top. Flavorful, rich, creamy: absolutely delicious. WELL DONE, MYRTLE & GOLD.
But I do have a hangup about their space. There were not that many people in the restaurant but it was really loud. I think this has to do with the shape of the space, but it was pretty frustrating. So watch out for that when you go with a group.
Overall, they have a great selection of alcohol (drafts, both wine and beer, and cocktails) and a nice menu that's mid-range affordable. I recommend the food but don't go with your parents who are slightly hard of hearing.
This review is for 3.5 stars! This bar is right around the corner from me so the convenience is wonderful! I've been here now 3 times and each time has been great. The place isn't huge but has a neighborhood-y feel to it. Silent shows/movies play all day/night and there are a handful of fun board games to play while having some draft beers.
FOOD: The sriracha wings are INCREDIBLE! I eat a lot of wings, and these are definitely in my top 5. We have been dying to try the pretzels and beer cheese but they have been out of them every time, which is frustrating because they sound so good! The burger is amazing, with great flavor and yummy fries. The breakfast sandwich and brussel sprouts are other standouts from their menu.
SERVICE: My only gripe is that the service is always slow. The food comes out quickly but the servers aren't the most attentive, especially when it comes to paying/receiving the bill.
The location, interior, and food are what keeps me coming back. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely check M&G out!
