7 Stars Diner
“The location is in a strip mall but it may be a little hard to find on foot but if you enter the strip mall, there will be a sign that says "restaurant" above it.”
“The only drawback is that they're not served with real maple syrup which would make them unbelievably off the charts.”
“Besides the usual breakfast faves, feel free to ask for his take on Salvadoreno specialties like pupusas n tamales.”

Literally since this 7 Stars has opened, I've been coming here for it's tasty diner fare. Since I grew up only blocks away from the Whitepoint Shopping Center, 7 Stars became my first stop for a juicy burger or tasty sandwich. For the first time recently, I stopped in for an early morning breakfast and a few things dawned on me while I scarfed down my southwestern omelet. Sitting in here, on a Saturday morning, it really didn't feel like I was at a diner in College Point and only a hop skip and jump from the hell hole that is the 20th Avenue shopping complex. I felt like I was in suburbia for a minute or two.
Ok, sorry for the deep insight here. The previously mentioned omelet was surprisingly delicious. Fluffy eggs, lots of jalapenos, perfectly cooked sausage and extra cheese turned this into one of the better omelets in recent memory. Coffee refills were quick, a nice big plate of sliced, already buttered toast was a nice touch. I like OJ with my breakfast, but when you give it to me in one of those kid sized 3 ounce cups, really? I'm pushing 30 here, not 5. Our waitress was friendly and when it was all said and done, my mom and I only shelled out $15 for a lot of breakfast and that $15 was with a generous tip! Apparently, the breakfast menu has been infused with a 'new wave' of selections and a lot of other platters and dishes sounded right up my alley.
Would I trek here from Midtown Manhattan? Never in 2 million years. But if you randomly find yourself in College Point, 7 Stars is a solid place to get some good, quality grub at a very fair price.
We've had breakfast, lunch & dinner at 7 Star on separate occasions, but it might be fun to try all 3 on a single day. It's a great little diner in the Whitepoint strip mall, good for a lunch stop break after a morning of shopping at BJ's & Target on 20th Ave. It's just a short hop away. Most times we come in, we just grab menus off the counter and seat ourselves in a booth or at a table. It's really easy going here with most of the patrons being people from the neighborhood. It's just too bad that they only open until 8pm and if you want dinner, you have to get there before 7.
The pancakes are a family recipe and are super fluffy pillows with nice crisp edges. They seem yellower than at other diners, which probably means more eggs, making them richer, puff up more and extra golden brown off the griddle. The only drawback is that they're not served with real maple syrup which would make them unbelievably off the charts. I know maple is expensive, but maybe it should be offered as an option to complement the awesome pancakes. The high-fructose corn syrup stuff just doesn't do them justice. I might have to bring my own next time, hmmm /:)? Omelettes are tasty and burgers are solid & decent sized. They even throw in a couple of onion rings with the deluxe burger platters. One of my favorite dishes for dinner is the mixed grill, skirt steak, chicken breast, shrimp & 2 sides, which also comes with a soup or salad.
I love diners that have 2 pages of breakfast specials and an additional page of just breakfast items. I love breakfast.
Even though I came here looking for good hash browns and found only standard home fries, the coolest thing here that I hadn't seen anywhere else is how you have a choice of toast or pita. Pita! I had never put butter or jam on pita before and now that I have, I very much like it. It's almost like eating buttered naan. And I do love my naan.
There are also some beautifully creamy pies in their display fridge that I regret not getting. Maybe next time!
