  1. Best to come here if you're more thirsty than hungry. The food is served in small portions.

When thinking of the location, surrounded by bars and restaurants, this should not be the place where you stop to fuel up before or after a night out; but if you're trying to drink up more, this is the place!

The bartender was super nice, my fiends and i's drinks were super strong, some might enjoy strong drinks, but our were to the point where we had to put water in them… Now, this is a "no no" for a bar tender, but I think he was just trying to help out to get his costumes tipsier on their night out. Again, some might appreciate his efforts. As soon as we saw we were struggling he asked to remake our drinks, which saved the experience at this restaurant.

  2. Stumbled in here for a Valentine's Day dinner. They have a delicious, affordable happy hour – I am in love with their Panang curry and their Drunken Noodles!

Service was on point and I can't deny their Thai iced coffee…so good!

Very impressed. We will definitely be back!

  3. Sticky Rice serves traditional Thai dishes in an intimate setting. There is a nice brightly colored cherry blossom mural painted on one of brick walls, which helps open up the space & puts me in a happy place since they are one of my favorite flowers.

I have been here serval times & I only recall being disappointed one evening due to a very busy night, so it wasn't their fault. Now I try to avoid that experience & I always try to make it before or during happy hour so I can enjoy my favorite Mango Mojitos or Lychee White Sangrias.

The menu includes BBQ meats, soups, & noodle dishes. My favs are the Pineapple Pork Appetizers, which includes rice & a sweet dipping sauce, the Tom Yum soup, & the Drunken Man Noodles. If you like your noodles hot & spicy then ask them to turn up the heat. It has a mild kick to them but I prefer it a little spicer.

There are several banquettes, which is the best seating in the house. I personally feel that the bar is not a good place to sit. It is small & can feel tight, especially when people are passing by with orders or are going to the restroom. The glass bar is lit with pinkish neon lights that provides a cool touch which helps showcase their fully stocked shelves of wine, vodka, & more.

Overall, I like the atmosphere, the food, drinks, & the service. Butterfly & June are the main staff members I usually see during my visits. They are attentive, sweet, & friendly.

  4. IN SHORT: A colorful, BYOB Thai spot on the Lower East Side with food that doesn't quite impress.

THE STORY: While I'm not sure how long Sticky Rice will be able to survive the restaurant world that is New York City, for the time being its BYOB policy and its ability to host and serve a large table of guests make it a successful pick for the occasional birthday or for satisfying that ephemeral craving for Pad Thai. The aforementioned Pad Thai at Sticky Rice, while nothing extraordinary, does come in a massive portion, as does their Railroad Thai Fried Rice, which our waitress was also able to kindly make allergy-free for a few of our guests.

Neon lights in the space lend a sort of ephemeral pink glow to the atmosphere, which is otherwise clean and sleek. Sticky Rice is the kind of place that reminds me of those average, yet somehow enjoyable boozy restaurants popular in my old college town, for which I think we all have some sort of nostalgia.

  5. I was in desperate need of amazing Thai food while in NYC (and Chicago just does not do Thai well). And I found it! Sticky Rice is an unassuming place that looks like your typical Asian spot in the lower east side. But it's so much more. The service is fantastic and you're welcome immediately, advice on what to order is freely forthcoming and helpful. But the truth is they can't really do anything wrong when it comes to the food.

We tried the Thai dumplings, green curry shrimp (with a healthy serving of fresh and good sized shrimp), cashew chicken, and duck fried rice. Everything was perfect. Not oily at all. Super fresh tasting. The green curry was bright green and thin but packed with flavor and more unique than any green curry I've had before. The cashew chicken was had a wonderfully fragrant sauce that was not fish sauce heavy or oily. I ate till I was full and then I couldn't stop eating. Like to the point that my stomach was still hurting the next day. An easy ride away from FiDi, this will be my new go to every time I'm in town. Thank you for feeding my need for east coast Thai in an amazing way!

  6. I went to Sticky Rice with some friends for a Saturday night dinner. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are ample. You can BYOB, which is a great savings seeing as the menu drinks are rather pricey. The restaurant is modernly decorated and the servers are very friendly. It's a nice place to start off an evening in the LES.

I was debating between giving this restaurant three or four stars. I'm giving it three for the McSquid it passes off as calamari. What a very disappointing appetizer –and very different from a picture I'd seen on Yelp! The calamari was "pop ems" sized and tasted like over fried flour. They had the consistency of White Castle clam strips (which aren't bad in and of themselves, but certainly not what I'd expect from a restaurant).

On to the good: I've been to the restaurant once before and ordered the NY Steak dish which comes with a spicy tamarind chili dip. I would order that again. This time around my friends and I ordered the basil chicken stir-fry, served with multi-grain rice (good), chicken pad thai (good), and pad see hew noodles with chicken (very good). We also ordered the passionfruit soda which was just the right amount of sweet and sour, though I can't say I'd get it again for the price ($3.50, I believe).

I would come to Sticky Rice again for the ambiance and overall good (though not amazing) food. It's on a happening block and there's a lot you can get into any day of the week in the area.

  7. BYOB! There is a $4 corkage fee per bottle/6 pack, which isn't bad – considering I've been to other places that charge $10. You just have to order $15 minimum worth of food per person, which isn't that hard considering the entrees are all $10+. If you don't decide to BYOB, they have pitchers of sangria for $12, I believe – though I'm not sure how good that would be.

To start, our table of five ordered some appetizers to share – the duck spring rolls, calamari and the firecrackers. The duck spring rolls were just okay. But that also might be because I'm not a big fan of duck to begin with. It was kind of dry. The calamari was really good – fresh and crispy. The firecrackers (chicken and thai herbs in a jacket of tofu skin) were meh. The tofu skin was chewier than most tofu skins I've eaten before.

For my entree, I went with the drunken man noodles. I love this dish but a lot of places make it way too spicy for my taste. So I ordered it "less spicy" and it was perfect for me. The portions are pretty big.

We came on NYE at 8, with a reservation and the place wasn't packed. I'm not sure how long the wait normally would be – but I would make a resso just in case. The place is small.

I didn't get to try their mango sticky rice for dessert so I'll be back!

  8. It'll take a lot for me to complain about a BYOB Thai food spot and Sticky Rice is definitely not a place where I can see myself ever complaining. Trendy spot, cool music, delicious food! Corkage fee for wine was $5/bottle I think? Food was cheap too!

The Cashew Chicken stir fry was amazing! Definitely hit the spot. Others in our party ordered the Drunken Noodle and the Ginger chicken stir fry which I also had bites of. Equally as good! Come here for a chill, fancy-looking but affordable Thai dinner. You won't be disappointed!
