Simple food at good prices make this a neighborhood gem. Comfortable booths and a large menu spanning Mexican and American food pretty much guarantee if you come with a group everyone will find something they like on the menu. I went with the Cheese Flautas Plate (3 for $8) which included rice and beans. Definitely simple food, but tasty as well. The green sauce served with the free salsa and chips was very good. My friend recommended and ordered a torta, which I never order because I feel like sandwiches are an affront to Mexican food. That said, her torta looked fantastic and I would probably order one myself next time.
24 hour mexican food diner. Please love me forever. I want to marry Grand Morelos. I will be monogamous to you, and YOU ONLY.
This place is fantastic. The food is fresh and I am always satisfied. My favorite thing to do is come to this place kind of inebriated and then come back 4-5 hours later hungover. It really cures any drinking related ailment I might have.
The chilaquiles are spicy and DELICIOUS. The tortas are incredible. Burritos?? Out of this god forsaken world. I'm addicted to their chorizo. It's just the right amount of spicy to make you tingle but not enough to make your face to melt off. Which is fine because I need my face in my wedding pictures to this restaurant.
The fresh orange and carrot juice drives me just absolutely wild. I love it so much. That fresh pulp in there? Sign me the F up.
Don't pass up this place. Just don't. You're gonna fall in love and try to take me away from my happy marriage partner.
Went along to wait with a friend last night while she got a new piece tattooed at Greene Ave Tattoo a few stores down. While waiting, I decided to surf Yelp and see what our options for dinner were. Felt a hankering for tacos and knew what was going down. I decided upon this gem. I ordered:
Chicken taco- (originally $2.00 but sour cream is $.50 extra as well as guacamole, so $3.00) this taco was absolutely loaded. At first sight, I was a bit overwhelmed with the size and unsure that I'd be able to take it on. It might look like a Mexican restaurant shat on your face and hands afterwards, but your tastebuds will be so satisfied, it won't even matter. Also, dat corn tortilla.
Nachos- $4.50, they come with cotija cheese, american cheese, guacamole and a whole bunch of love. Absolutely scrumptious. Paired with some pico de gallo and you'll be in Heaven, for sure. I was totally full after that and the taco, but then again, some people are bottomless pits, so this might be no challenge for you lucky bastards.
Their guacamole is absolutely perfect. The chicken was seasoned just the way I love it and I couldn't be more pleased with my time there last night. I read some reviews about a less than pleasant waiter and her grumpiness. Glad to report that my waiter was kind and did pass on some smiles.
I highly recommend this place to those of you that are particular about your Mexican food, I know I am. This place makes me less and less anxious to go back to California for the seemingly one of a kind hole in the walls. I love coming across places that come so close, though. Looking to try the guanabana shake on my next visit aka ~9 hours from now.
A Mexican place that splits the difference between a taco establishment and a dinner, Morelos has been churning out tacos and tortas long before I moved to the neighborhood and I think they'll be here long after I depart.
It's open all night, so whenever the tostada craving strikes, you can come up here. Considering the other options in the area include the god-awful Isla Cuchifritos and the pervy spin the bottle bar, it's nice that this place is here.
In the middle of the day, when New Mexico Place is open a couple blocks down, it's not the best option in the area. There the spicing is better and balanced. Here, in the tradition of dinners on both sides of the border, calorie bombs dominate the menu.
In the Bradt guides to countries in far sides of the world, they name their second category of hotel "cheap and cheerful." With the gecko stencil on the door and the lights always on, that's a pretty good way to describe Grand Morelos.
so I came here at 3 am , the place was crowded at that hour, the portions are generous at really good prices, everything Is fresh too. I loved the chicken quesedillas with hot green sauce, so good. my boyfriends chorizo tostadas were so good, a bit spicy but it makes it even better. the waitresses are so friendly and charming, the place itself is small but it gives it that cute cozy home type of feel. perfect place to go to for Mexican omelettes tacos burritos and yummy cake at 3 am with a fancy jukebox and you can change the music from your iphone through an app
I've ordered from here a few times from seamless. They deliver in less than 30 minutes, and the food comes pipping hot. The Mexican platter specials are one of the best deals in the hood – a burrito, taco, rice and beans for less than 10 bucks is pretty off the charts. The food isn't the best I have ever had, but for the price and quantity it is a good bet for cheap eats.
Also, their breakfast options are really on point. The Huevos Rancheros are great, so are their chilaquiles.
Final plus is they serve everything with a spicy green sauce that is almost as good as Sophie's Cuban.
The quality of the food here is directly proportional to ones blood alcohol content. Taking into consideration that this place is open 24 hours, is fairly close to a number of bars, and that they have Mexican and American food as well as a large dessert case, it's worthy of at least 3 stars. None of the food I'm willing to bet is excellent sober and the service is outstandingly bad so for that I'm sticking with an A-OK rating. Most of the food here hovered around $10 which for some things are a little overpriced but some things are a good deal. They do have a $4 burrito which seemed to be the best deal. I just stuck to an order of fries and a chocolate shake. I was pleased with both, especially the fries that were battered and extra crispy (definitely of the frozen variety though).
I'm rounding up because of the 24/7 schedule. The steak cemita had very good meat and bread, although it wasn't the crazy flavor explosion you find at some of the top cemita joints. I also thought the guacamole worked well with the spicy pork taco.
