  1. I legitimately used to think that Grays Papaya's was the end all, be all of hot dogs… Well that all changed one Memorial Day. So Nathan's had the bright idea to close early on a holiday! Yeah I get it the employees need a break too… But what about my need for hot dogs?! I eat these things maybe once a year and when I do I need them to be the beefy, salty, ketchup and mustard, creation of God they were made to be…

So then the Yelp Gods step in and Ta Da… Enter Criff Dogs! These hots dogs were perfect! Actually They were beyond that. They were so good I almost wanted to be drunk to truly enjoy the experience.

Everything you expect a hot dog to be this place brings it! They actually exceed it with toppings ranging from Chilli, cheese, bacon, to avacado and sauerkraut! They've got it all! Beer, cheese fries, and super nice service! This place rocks! Next time you wanna be bad and eat something so bad it's good come to Criff!

  2. Oh Crif Dogs Williamsburg, you aren't as good as I remember. And certainly not as good as I remember your St. Marks location to be. You leave NYC for 2 years and everything changes! But I digress…

My friends and I made a quick, late-night stop here to soak up some of the booze in our system from all of the pre-Halloween party craziness. First of all, they don't accept Discover, which is ok, but service took forever. My tried and true is the Jon Jon Deragon and cheese tots. My boyfriend got the Spicy Redneck, no coleslaw. We were already making bad decisions, and that Spicy Redneck might have been one of the worst for the bf. The cheese tots were overcooked, greasy, and overall bland. The bun for my dog was dry and the cream cheese couldn't really save it. And I didn't even want to touch that Spicy Redneck.

Overall, I wouldn't be back to this location. St. Marks Crif Dogs, I hope you are still good! Or were you ever that good to begin with?

  3. I will have to agree with the bad reviews listed below. We entered the Crif Dogs Williamsburg location and waited at a small line with people. The cashier/ordering stand was left unattended for quite a while. Finally, the staff worker (with blonde, pixie haircut) ran inside and apologized.

The food was average and one of the hot dogs looked shriveled. There was a bus boy that kept staring at me from the back door which made me feel uncomfortable as we waited for our food.

The front door was left wide open by the staff since they were rolling in and out large metal kegs of beer. The restaurant (small) became very cold due to the 40 degree temperature outside.

We tried the vintage Pacman Jr. game at our table (unique, cool feature). You insert two quarters for only 1 player and you are only given 1 life (kind of a rip-off in our opinion). The Star Wars and punk rock skater decorations looked cool and nostalgic though!

Overall, I would not recommend this location unless they change/upgrade their staff. The East Village location is better and even has a secret speakeasy inside! 😉

  4. Hot dogs always seem to get a bad rap as pretty much the worst food you can eat thanks to its mysterious meat and the fact that they usually only sell them at bad for you places like sports arenas and amusement parks. Thank goodness that in New York people embrace dogs of all kinds and don't really seem to give a crap about the lack of nutritional value.

Crif Dogs is known for their unusual hot dog combos with ingredients like sour cream, avocadoes, cream cheese, pineapples, etc., but if you're into the classic hot dog don't be afraid to pull the boring move like me and just get the New Yorker. You can always customize with toppings and I guarantee you that it's at least as satisfying as a NYC hot dog cart.

They're also open late night and located conveniently right by the Bedford L station, so it's a perfect choice for a late night grub sesh. Throw in some of their tots and a shake or a float, and you'll probably hate yourself in the morning, but can you think of anything more American? Just embrace it!

  5. If you want a way below average hot dog make your way over here. I've noticed the quality of the food here disintegrate within the past year. Is it poor management? A bad chef? I just don't understand how people can f*ck up a damn hot dog.

All the food here is a soggy, fried mess. I don't remember the food being so inedible at Crif Dogs. Hell even Anthony Bourdain was a huge fan at some point. It makes me judge Anthony Bourdain's judgement. The service is jaded hipster which is typical of this neighborhood. Don't get chili flavored anything here. The texture and taste is reminiscent of dog food. Could not eat the chili tater tots. It was so inedible I gave it to my cat.

Please avoid at all costs. If you want 4am Saturday night munchies type of grub go to Anna Maria's on Bedford Ave instead.

  6. We came back from a party in Williamsburg and before hopping on the subway, we wanted some drunchies. We first wanted to get pizza at Two Boots, but it didn't really look too satisfying for our hunger so we went across the street to Crif. A hot dog was exactly what we were craving and the interior was very chill and had fun music.

The food was okay. This place uses mediocre dogs but makes it fun and attractive to customers because of the variety of toppings it offers. I got a New Yorker dog with a side of fries which were lattice potato fries that were not amazing but hit the spot for my potato craving. Don't get me wrong, I chowed down the food in a matter of minutes because it was pretty solid, but nothing amazing and I've had better premium dogs before. Boyfriend got 2 dogs- the Tsunami and Chili. Once again the meat was not the greatest but the toppings made it delicious.

  7. THIS PLACE DOES NOT DESERVE A STAR!

Walked in with a party of three. Sat ourselves down. The third person was waiting to place an order P- A-T- I-E-N-T-L-Y while waiting for the BLONDE W/ THE SHORT PIXIE HAIRCUT GIRL to finish her phone call. Apparently she never did get off the phone.

This happened today. This afternoon. Walked out. No greets. No nothing. I didn't really care about the service. I just wanted to place order because my child wanted a hot dog but apparently she never got what she wanted. Only because business must have been booming. They can afford to hire someone to stand behind the counter and just have personal conservations over the phone apparently.

No thanks. Yelp better get on it with the option for zero stars. Seriously. I shouldn't have to be forced to put 1 star when it doesn't even deserve anything. Place didn't do anything for me. I walked in, and walked out minutes later.

  8. I'm sorry to say how disappointed I was in Crif Dogs. I was SO excited to go after reading their menu – I had 2 different dogs picked out and thought about it the whole way to Brooklyn! Yes, I take my food – even a simple hot dog, very seriously!! ;-D

When we got there we were the only people in the restaurant and the music was BLARING! I'm not talking the Eagles, either. It was something ear-splitting, I'm sure for the workers because no one was in and I get that! I do the same thing at home when I'm alone! BUT…then…they weren't alone.

The girl at the counter was so quiet when she spoke I had to strain to find out what she was saying, and I think she lost her best friend because she wouldn't smile or engage in any part of a conversation I tried to start at all. At all. (maybe she had a hearing deficit from the music?)

Anyway, back to the dogs. I ordered one and my daughter ordered the other one I wanted to try because she'd been to a different Crif Dog in the city several times so she didn't mind letting me have my way! (sweet girl!) and we ordered tater tots with cheese.

Hmmm…first: I drink diet soda and they only had Diet RC Cola. Wow. I didn't know that was even made anymore! (that is NOT a slam, I really didn't know!) So, I tried it again and it's fine – what a way to keep away from establishment sodas!

Then, the dogs came and although the DOGS tasted good, the buns were completely cold. like kinda hard cold. Ruined the dog together.
