  1. It was ok.  Service isn't the best.  There's only 1 or 2 waiters/waitresses so things took a while.  Food came out slow too so it was cold.  French toast is ok-good $10.  Fries were fries.  Definitely not worth $6.  Fried pickles were ok.  Also not worth the money.  Overall it was only ok.  Not sure if I would go back

  2. A very nice bar but can get crowded. Great for singles, mingling, and meeting new people. They serve good drinks and the fried pickles are pretty cool.

  3. I've been here twice, the first time I had the fried chicken sandwich and honestly I didn't expect much and was kind of disappointed to see it came out on toast but don't judge a book by its cover because it tasted great, the coleslaw in the sandwich was a nice touch! The second time I came here was just for drinks and I had the bourbon cider on a cold night which I highly recommend, the ambiance is very nice and the place is pretty spacious, I also know that they have live music on Mondays but I have yet to check it out

  4. There's happy hour here until 7pm! A good variety of drink choices to fit anyone's preference. Definitely a must-try spot for specialty cocktails when you're in Astoria. However, try to get there early because it does get really pack during 8:30-9pm and it stays packed the whole night.

  5. I came with a friend and missed happy hour, oh well. I'll have to come back for that! It's a super cute bar, great ambiance and there's plenty of room for groups. The service started off really well and kinda staggered as it got busier. My friend ordered the fried chicken sandwich, off the wall fantastic. I ordered the beef and Gruyere sandwich, it left much to be desired. The meat was kind of dry and I had to pull  pieces of gristle off them. Now, let's discuss the real star of the show: malt mayo for dipping crispy delicious fries. Holy cow batman. I will definitely coming for those bad boys and try some more of the menu.

  6. This is a wonderful brunch place…excellent food, extravagant and delicious cocktails, gorgeous decor, and very friendly, professional, non-fussy service. Despite its being located on a busy, bustling little block of Astoria, we were able to find a very nice table for a Sunday morning brunch.

I loved my bloody mary (which had a lot less of all of the salad in it than I expected, though it was kind of nice to not get a drink that looked like it had been made for a family of hungry rabbits), and was blown away by the roasted squash breakfast sandwich (sans bacon). GF enjoyed her cocktail (the "traveled road," with bourbon and tea-infused vermouth among other fancy ingredients) and her entree, but I can't remember what she ordered because I'm a goof.

I was super super impressed by the interior decor, which our server said was largely derived from reclaimed/repurposed brick, wood and metal in the walls, paneling, trim and fixtures…it's really gorgeous…it's dark but warmly colored and has a tastefully antique feel. I was also super impressed by the friendly courtesy shown us by our server and the bartender. An easy 5 stars!

  7. Iffy service, but awesome food. I had the fish and chips, which were simply amazing, and I also loved the bites I was able to sneak from my friend's fried chicken sandwich. The Mac and cheese was good, but not too special. Good drinks.

  8. Oh Sweet Afton, you are the reason I love Astoria so much! I can't believe it has taken so long for me to write this review. I have been coming to Sweet Afton for the six years I have lived in Astoria. Although I dwindle in and out as I try to give other places in Astoria a shot, especially since there is a new restaurant/bar opening every other day, Sweet Afton remains at the top of my list and my husband's as well.

We have tried Sweet Afton for brunch, for drinks, and dinner. Each time our service was excellent, the friendly, attentive, and accommodating staff is always willing to provide great recommendations and tend to our needs and our food is always absolute perfection! This particular visit I wanted to bring my good friend who lives in Manhattan to a place that would represent Astoria well. I was not disappointed!

We were both not starving but in the mood for something light to eat. I already knew I wanted the fried pickles that are the best I have ever tasted and served with a spicy chipotle mayo that is definitely one of my favorites! My friend had her eye on the cauliflower leek soup but did not want the grilled cheese sandwich it was served with. We asked the server if we could just have two cups of the soup and she immediately complied with our request.

The soup was so delightful! It was a cold and windy day out and the soup was just what the doctor ordered! Topped with pickled chard stems and pumpkin seeds gave the creamy yet light soup a bit of a crunch that generated a rustic feel. I thoroughly enjoyed my fried pickles, but WARNING they always come out steaming hot so make sure you take light bites or you will burn your tongue! I love this because it stops me from eating 10 bites at a time (ha)!

THE COCKTAILS ARE EVERYTHING AT SWEET AFTON. The bartenders are true mixologists that create the best cocktail experience ever! I had the mulled apple cider with spiced rum that leaves everything feeling warm and tingly;) My friend had the sweet tea, she thought it was yummy even though she's not the biggest fan of ginger, I tried it and thought it was yum also even though I'm not the biggest fan of vodka.

I LOVE SWEET AFTON. Definitely will keep coming back. The one thing that I forgot to mention was annoying, was that we sat near the door and there were people outside smoking, and for some reason the cigarette smell kept creeping in through the window and at one time my friend knocked on the window asking a cigarette smoker to move (haha). Regardless, just will remember not to sit there next time! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!
