BEER + PRETZELS + METAL = AAAAMAZING!
As a new member of the Bushwick (kinda queens… meaning Ridgewood) resident, I am pleased to say that all of my new favorite places are in the large neighboring borough.
Bierleichen has such a phenomenal space. Set up like a traditional German Beer Hall, big open, high ceilings, solid large bar and a giant screen for projection at the rear. The projector sold me the other night. I walked in to a classic live video of The Stooges and mirroring that was Iggy just wailing at his best. On the heels of (R.I.P. Bowie) the death of his pal, it was a warming entry to a cold night. It has to say the least been BRICk out in NYC, so to walk a few blocks or across the street is an effort. But when you want some decent pub grub and a pint, or a half liter, or a liter or a BOOT, then you trek a little further.
Bierleichen is the kind of place you want bring your friends too. There isnt much around (Milo's Yard…which also rules is next door) but making your friends plow through the cold night to this beer hall will defiantly impress. You want to be the one who is the first to refer it, its that good.
The staff is the key. I have said this before but i would drink in a portable urinal (like Weird Womb did in their latest video) but I only frequent establishments that add the personality and love.
Bierleichen has this is troves!
So grab your Brezel, tip your Kellner and PROST!!! this is the spot you have been waiting for.
ps…. the Metal music is DAS BESTE!
Popped in here for a beer and pretzel. The pretzel wasn't as big as the ones at The Wilky in Bedstuy buy they were still as good.
Of course they have good beer and I had Hofbrau of course:) you can even get full liters!
Love the fusion of German and heavy metal. However, look up some actual German heavy metal bands for your plasylists! (But not Rammstein bitte!!)
A Limerick for Erin:
Oh how your bier pours so cold
With hints of fruit flavors untold
I drink till I'm shit
and then I just sit
And watch as the dramas unfold
I have been dying to try this bar since it is near my apartment. I like the layout and simple things like hooks under the bar are a nice touch. There were some good beers on tap. The music was good also. Here's the but… the acoustics in there are really bad. The talking sounds so loud you can't even hear the music. The staff was cold and looked like we were bothering them. They were out of glass sizes. Huh? Plus the service was SO SLOW! I saw people waiting for drinks at the bar for a very long time. How do they expect to make money that way? The food was OK, again out of a lot and this was an early Saturday night. I hope it improves because it definitely has possibilities.
It was the Jonas Blizzard that set the stage for Bierleichen to truly shine. The bartenders last night walked all the way from Greenpoint just to open the bar. They greeted all clientele with warm tomato soup. I was also offered to lick the brownie mix bowl. I had to pass since I had already gorged on donuts all morning at Donutfest NYC 2016! However, the regular next to me didn't skip a beat and dug right into the bowl.
Adam and Peter were the bartenders. And they were super sweethearts. It's funny 'cause I'm from Seattle and sometimes a bearded, hip guy can greet you in an icy manner but not these guys. Adam even upped the beer shot special for an additional $2 you also got a baby beer. And instead of the pickle back you could do a jalapeño pickle back. I personally enjoyed a tequila, with a half and half jalapeño and pickle back with a frosty small beer. The pretzel with cheese was delicious but the grilled cheese with Munster cheese and mushrooms with a side of pickles really hit the spot. Yummmm!
I also loved that they had Top Gun on the screen and Queens of the Stoneage blasting! The music was just like my own personal play list of rock, punk and metal!
Our other bartender showed up Johann and dove right into the favorite rock album by band conversation….pixies…fugazi…smashing pumpkins and nirvana to name some nineties faves.
This bar does have a patio but in a blizzard it was a no go. There is plenty of space for groups. They're was even a skeletal juggalo group last night.
Thanks Bierleichen for keeping the locals, warm, fed and buzzed!! And thanks for the free brownies too!
Went here with my boyfriend and his friend– It's a great bar! They have a great beer selection and the food is good. I had the pretzel which was perfect.
I'm happy that they opened up a bar like this in the neighborhood.
A German beer hall metal bar. What's not to love?
Everyone who works here has always been friendly, the brats and knackwurst are good (albeit slightly pricey) and the beef they have one the weekends is to die for.
The beers range from normal sized to giant boot and are priced at 6-7 bugs for the more regular sizes.
They have a huge projector so you can watch the game, but the sound is off which is a tiny bit of a bummer.
What a nice hidden gem this place was. Ridgewood definitely needed a place like this and a cool beer garden in general, so this was a welcome addition. I went here for my friend's birthday and it was big enough that even when it was crowded, you weren't uncomfortable. There was lots of seating, really friendly service, and a nice quality beer selection. They offer food also, which I didn't try, but looked good based on the people eating around me. Overall a nice atmosphere and decent prices. Best beer selection in the area for sure.
