We had the appetizer platter cold and hot for 3 and everything was delicious. My son ordered linguine with meat sauce and he thought it was tasty. My brother in law ordered the seafood platter and he and his girlfriend loved it. Service was decent and we lucked out getting a table for 6 on a Saturday night without a long wait. The desert was amazing! We got baklava, rice pudding and galactabereka all were super fresh and special! This was my second time here and we will be back.
Amazing! This review is based on a surprise party that I threw for my father at Zenon Taverna. Dora was very helpful with suggestions on which menu to choose and what drinking option. She was very communicate leading to the day. On the day of I was able to go to the restaurant at 8am and start decorating for the event that was starting at 12pm. This was very helpful.
During the event, the waitresses were absolutely delightful. Every question was brought to my attention in a very polite manner. They were kind and sweet throughout the 4 hours we were there. They even danced to our music and were always smiling. I couldn't have asked for better service. Our cups were constantly full and our plates were as well.
The food was absolutely delicious. There was so much food left over that was given for us to take home. I would without a doubt choose this restaurant for an event in the future. I was left so happy and my guests were all raving about how amazing the food tasted. Thank you Zenon Taverna for an amazing party and for helping to make my dad's birthday a memorable day!
Special thanks to Katerina for being such a great waitress! I will be back to eat at this restaurant and will def ask for you!
Cash only.
Girls' night out at Zenon Taverna on a Tuesday night. It was pretty empty at 7 but became filled as the night went on. It's a cozy homey family-friendly spot; most people there were there with relatives or friends. Couple birthday dinners here and there.
– Service was lacking, literally. One waiter for an entire restaurant is not sufficient. On top of that, the waiter wasn't very good at his job. Our bill took forever to come. I had to ask for my cup to be refilled with water. And once he took our money, I had to ask for a plate because there was still bread on the table and I wanted to eat it with olive oil! Basic things, people.
– Food was overpriced, and not even that great. You can get more for much less money at ….. oh let's see, any other seafood restaurant on the planet. I ordered the Avgolemono soup, split the seafood platter with a friend, and the traditional Greek dessert of Daktyla for dessert. I enjoyed my food, but the price turned me off, especially given how small the portions were. Definitely not worth it.
Perhaps if they narrow down their extremely lengthy menu and focus on fewer dishes, they can make their offerings cheaper and better. Quality over quantity. Just a thought.
If you want good Greek food, you really need to got to Astoria. If I closed my eyes, I would have thought I was back in Mykonos, I loved this place! We started with a bottle of wine, I think it was $20 and perfect. We then ordered Tzatziki with pita bread. Delicious! The grilled octopus was absolutely phenomenal. Grilled pieces of octopus season with extra virgin olive oil and oregano. It was fresh, light, crisp, and refreshing. The spinach pie came out right from the oven, the dough was crisp and flaky and the dish was hot and mouthwatering delicious. I also ordered us a small plate of potatoes, I love Greek potatoes. So good.
I wanted authentic Greek and this place did not disappoint. How come no one can make good Greek food in NJ?! Aggravating!
The waitress was super friendly and attentive. We showed up at 11am on a Sunday and when we left around 12:30, the place was packed. Please note, the restaurant is cash only. I wish I knew that sooner! There should be a sign somewhere.
I'm getting hungry re-reading this review. Well worth the 45 minute drive from my house in NJ.
Came back a second time.
Pros:
* Dips are still delicious- my favorites are the Tzatziki – Yogurt & Cucumber dip, Melitzanosalada, Hummus, and the homemade Eggplant dip with the toasted pita and olive bread.
* Awesome Greek Salad and Calamari- super fresh and fried perfectly.
* Great service.
Cons:
* Unfortunately most of the meats (except for the Souvlaki – Char-grilled pork kebabs, and Sheftalia – Pork Meatballs) were missing the mark. The Quail meat was tough and didn't wow. The worst plate was the Halloumi (Cypriot cheese), Lunza (Smoked Pork Loin), and Loukaniko Spitisio (Cyprus Sausage). The pork and sausage were dry and tasteless and cheese hard.
We went with friends for 4th of July dinner. Mind it two of us are Greek. Salad was ok with cheap crumbled feta. My friends ordered Avgolemono soup they were served chicken noodle soup. One of my friends ordered Spanakopita and felt sick afterwards. I ordered Chicken souvlaki platter listed on the menu at $15.50 I was charged $19.95. Food was bad! Not mediocre just BAD! We are not coming back! It's sad as I always want to write good reviews but this was horrible experience. I'm just upset and annoyed that I came here and gave them business! We are not coming back!
The food here is good. But given the large selection in Astoria, I'm not going to rush back here. I didn't eat anything bad, but nothing really stood out. I liked having the 16-dish tasting options and getting to try a lot of dishes, but many of them started to taste the same. Still, overall an enjoyable meal and a nice ambiance.
Long overdue review, I came here for a group dinner with friends and we did the tasting menu sampler course. We got one fish meze and one vegetarian meze for 5 people. We were stuffed! All this food kept coming out and we got to try a bit of everything. The tasting menu is a better idea than it sounds, they rushed bringing out the food and the quality of each dish could've been better. The vegetables were a bit watery, the spinach especially. The seafood dishes were pretty good, but the calamari was a bit soggy. Overall the food was good, and the hummus and babaganoush dips were delicious, so was the bread. I would recommend this spot to friends who want to arrange a group dinner, the prices are pretty good too.
