This is ONLY for the poke bowl. It was okay… I think they were getting ready to close, there was only one person behind the counter for ALL the food stations. Another guy who looked like the manager got behind the counter and started to help us because we were waiting awhile. He wasn't sure if they had anymore rice left but we didn't really want much rice so I just asked for extra avocado instead of rice if it was possible and he def hooked us up. He was super nice and loaded on the toppings… Then the rice came out lol…, he didn't charge us extra anyway and gave us both a little more rice. Overall it tasted okay, I've def had better poke bowls but I like the idea of this place and def want to try the other options. Wish they had more seating though it's extremely limited.
A new food hall!
What stood out the most: CROISSANTS AT THE BAKERY!
Their bakery is in the front near the entrance. I got there around 4:30pm and all the matcha, creme brulee, red velvet croissants were sold out. The only one left was peanut butter and jelly. It was good but I'm not a pb&j fan, so I'll just have to come back at 9AM for the rest of them! Also got a matcha cookie (which has white chocolate chips in it) and a Portuguese egg tart, which is good but still can't compare to Chinese bakeries. Other than the filled croissants, they also have regular ones and an "everything" croissant, which is like an everything bagel with all the toppings on them.
There weren't many people there at 4:30PM, so I walked around and saw that they have a poke spot! I'll just have to come back for it. They also had poke bowls already packaged for people to purchase to-go.
I love when a new food hall opens up. Why? cause there are so many options to choose from! Union Fare, which also has a full operating restaurant on the other side, doesn't disappoint.
Located near union square on 17th street (more towards 5th Ave.), I was drawn to this place after reading an article about a birthday cake croissant being served here.
Unfortunately, the day I went, I was in quite a rush so just ran out with coffee, but I'll definitely be back to try everything there
I've only tried their baked goods, but I was really pleased with it. What I didn't realize is that they have so much more to offer – pizza, poke, lobster rolls, etc.
– Creme Brûlée croissant: definitely my favorite thing here! It's got the crunchy sugar topping, and inside is filled with cream. It was oozing out after just a bite!
– Cookies & Cream croissant: well, it was a cookies and cream croissant. That's all I know how to describe it as. It had all the same flaky layers, but their side had a cookies and cream filling as well as some of it sprinkled on top.
– Nutella Shortbread cookie: as cute as this was, this was actually my least favorite of the five things I got (not that that's saying much). It wasn't as sweet as expected, and the shortbread really did crumble apart as I bit into it
– Oatmeal cookie: loved this! It's a good change up from the usual chocolate chip cookies. It's still sweet, and this cookie was still soft (especially for its size)
– Brownie: I don't remember what it was exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was topped with a white chocolate ganache. Whatever it was on this brownie, they mastered this brownie. It's the perfect combination of gooey and cakey
Ehhhhh.
I came here before work and they only had the red velvet croissants. They really did taste like red velvet cake but they were small and a bit overpriced at $5.25.
I stopped at the bakery early this morning (8:15am!) to snag a birthday cake croissant. They were smaller than they looked in the photos, but honestly, that's probably a good thing because they're super decadent, and there's no way I would leave any of it behind. Clean plate club!
The outside of the croissant was perfectly crisp – with a light interior that springs back a bit if you pull it apart, but still melts in your mouth with buttery perfection.
I enjoyed the birthday pastry cream filling – and tasted that one its own to see if it resembled my true love in life – birthday cake. The cream is really sweet, but not cloyingly so – just enough to let you know it's there, and bringing something to the table.
I would definitely recommend as a sweet way to treat yourself. I'll be back to try the other flavors! And I have to mention that the staff were setting up when I got to the bakery this morning, and they were super friendly and eager to help – a really nice experience all around.
If you're coming here for the croissants, just get the creme brûlée. Compared to the other flavors, it's 50 cents more. Yes, these croissants are expensive at $5. But if you're here and you're going to splurge, you might as well pay the extra 50 cents for the best.
I ended up trying 3 flavors: red velvet, matcha and creme brûlée.
Red velvet: The filling was vanilla bean, not cream cheese, which I was slightly disappointed about. There wasn't much "red velvet" flavor to it.
Matcha: The matcha filling and the overall flavor was super light. I wanted more of the bitter green tea taste.
Creme brûlée: The crunchy sweet exterior + the buttery, flakey inside + light vanilla bean filling = one of the most perfect bite. I might be over exaggerating, but it was so good. & surprisingly even with the caramelized exterior, it wasn't overly sweet at all!!! Definitely the best out of the 3.
All of the croissants are buttery and flakey, but I think it could use more filling. I can't speak about the other flavors, but the red velvet and matcha were underwhelming in taste. But the creme brûlée is the bomb — the caramelization makes a huge difference.
