I am absolutely LIVING for The Dead Rabbit! What am amazing spot with such excellent, gracious staff! I had been many times to the first floor, which is very fun but always crowded. It's so crowded it distracts from amazing drinks and excellent service from the bartenders
At our most recent trip, the bouncer made small talk with us as he was checking our IDs. Prolly cuz Pete and I are old AF and he didn't have to look that hard. He lead us to a MUCH different room upstairs – not at all crowded, classy seating, same great drinks and gracious bartenders. The drinks here are $16 each which is more than I spend on most whole bottles of wine. I don't care. Get a delicious drink here. It is so worth it. My drink had like 90 ingredients including Aperol. The bartender gave us complimentary sparkling water, which was a nice touch.
The bill came to more than what we had recently spent on dinner and it was worth every cent. I'll be back and I'll be grateful for the experience.
Reservations upstairs are a must and be prepared to wait.
Rated one of the best bars in the US so I'm glad I got to experience it.
If you've watched Gangs of New York, then you know the rich history that comes with this bar.
When you're settled, the host shares some stories and gets you started with the comic which also contains the drink menu.
They specialize in absinthe but have many well mixed cocktails.
The food was pretty amazing too. Truffle fries are really, really good.
Would love to come back and try their full dinner menu.
Love it. Unique interior, great menu, and good beer selection. We went early on a Saturday and had the lobster deviled eggs and the pork belly sliders (both highly recommended). The only thing I hated was the sawdust on the floor. Watch out, it's slippery!
I went to this bar after the Jazz Age lawn party for two years in a row.
It is a very classic, dark bar with friendly waiters and a pretty chill crowd.
I recommend a stop in.
When we went, the doorman told us the wait would be 45 minutes, but luckily it turned out to be a 5 minute wait. We sat downstairs next to the bar. Service was quick and very nice. Shared crab cakes, a scotch egg, Atlantic salmon entrée, crispy pork belly sliders, mini lamb burgers and truffled chips with 2 other people.
Except for the entrée, I thought the portions were quite small for the price. The scotch egg ($11) was only 1 egg for instance. Everything was good otherwise. I wouldn't get the salmon or the lamb burgers again though. For drinks, the Slim Shady was great. Would love to come back to try the punch
Would recommend and would return for drinks and small bites
The Dead Rabbit may be more bar than restaurant, but here is where I found the best burger and fries in the FiDi. Nicely seasoned beef covered with white cheddar, mushrooms and bacon arrives packed nice and neat in a soft brioche style bun and stays that way til your last bite. You also get a nice portion of tasty fries (chips) that won't make you feel like you're living it up too much during work hours. This combo beats out the more expensive version at Delmonico's or Harry's in the near vicinity. Plus, the atmosphere is hip and laid back. Feels secret-society-like, in a good way, once you get thru the door and up the stairs to the 2nd floor.
Perfect location, amazing history, great people.
My BF and I got some beers at Taproom level while waiting for our friends. On sunday night they have life music there. Great whisky selection!
After our friends arrived and a short wait we git to upper level – The Parlor. The menu seems like a comic book and has great selection of mixed drinks, which getting more complex with every page.
We tried some of them.First I got Kerb Crawler based on tequila with grapefruit and apricot. Then I tried Mack Daddy – cognac and whisky with cranberry liquor and orange. I took a sip of Lady killer, hoodwinkers Rapid Jabbler and more. All good.
We also ordered truffle chips and Corned beef sandwich – great choices.
Enjoy your stay at The Dead Rabbit!
I've been to The Dead Rabbit a few times and braved the 1st floor, Taproom and 3rd floor crowd. The Dead Rabbit is always a good time so I went again recently but this time, I went to the Parlor room on the 2nd floor and I just don't think I could go back to my 1st or 3rd floor ways.
It's like watching a baseball game in box seats for the first time and you're thinking to yourself, I've been watching baseball games all wrong up until now. 2nd floor Parlor room is just like that. Service is amazing on all floors but in the Parlor room, it's just a tad more special. It's a place to enjoy the dimly lit space with close friends or impress a date. Scotch eggs are dope and I recommend the Soldier Boy cocktail.
