I heard this place was good so I decided to stop here after a long day of shopping in the area. I got the lamb gyro with white sauce and was expecting it to be relatively fast, since gyros usually take ~5 minutes or so after ordering (at least in my experience). However, it ended up being about 20 minutes before I got my food. While I appreciate that it's fresh, I really didn't want to stand around for 20 minutes waiting on street food. I almost ended up leaving, but I had already ordered and was pretty hungry. It was definitely fresh and really hot, but wasn't anything absolutely spectacular. I've had much better gyros before; this one just didn't blow my socks off or anything. The white sauce that I had heard was so good was just ok, if not a bit bland. Next time I'll definitely have to try the one on 53rd and 6th.
Pretty disappointed.
I've had Halal Guy Chicken and Rice for years from their location up at W 53rd St and 6th Ave and thought the Soho location would be the same. But it wasn't. For $7.99, the platter for chicken and gyro over rice was pricier than their cart location and just not as yummy.
Their rice was too al dente and their meat was a bit dry. I really only ate it because I just got off a 5 hour bus ride from DC and was exhausted when I met my friends there. Without their famous white sauce, the meat and rice couldn't really stand on it's own. As a mixture of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, I expected much more flavor in their food without sauce just doused on. But to their credit, the sauces were really good and their spicy was without doubt, spicy! Better get a few more pita bread slices!
If you haven't tried The Halal Guys, it's worth a try if you're looking for something quick, cheap, and famous! BUT, I strongly recommend going to their other location up town instead!

if i am hankering for halal food post-running on the west side…i'll typically stop over at Soho Halal Guy for a box of rice + meat + veggie deliciousness. then speedwalk home…dreaming of speed-eating, my other workout. lol
i am a huge fan of this food cart's chicken over rice and lamb over rice. they serve a lot of other stuff falafel, gyros, burgers, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches etc. but meh i can have that anywhere. the chicken over rice is on point. soft succulent chicken marinated in spices. aromatic rice. and crispy vegetables (lettuce and tomatoes). all drowned in your preference of white sauce (cool) and red sauce(spicy). like i said the meat over platter dishes is where it's at. and priced for a great value. an order of chicken over rice is 5 bucks. WHUT?!?

the cart itself looks super clean! aaaaand at night the LED lights on the food cart almost serve as a homing beacon for the HANGRY folks looking for sustenance at a great price!
though Halal food is the rage all over the city with suspect food trucks opening up all over the city…i can say the food here is legit and stellar for the PRICE. remember you are not at a sitdown restaurant. however "hello. how are you? etc." go a long way in every scenario whether eating indoors at a boojee restaurant or outside at a food truck. be human. it pays off.

All I could say is that you can get a huge plate of chicken over rice and a drink for $6. One of the best places I tried while I was in NYC.

Hungry and with no ingredients to cook for dinner at home..i didnt wanna venture too far to get food. Brain was set for Chipotle when i decided to check yelp! Hello new place

Found him exactly where he would be! Order my chicken and rice and i got a geunie smile in return. The guy seem to be an awesome person…super friendly!
My chicken was cooked fresh….and fresh i mean the chicken was raw and then he cooked it on the hot plate and did his CHOP CHOP CHOP.
Asked for white sauce and spicy…not extra spicy because i wanted to try before going FULL ON EXTRA RRED SUACE

i am a little bummed though…i wish there were more rice…felt a little on the not full area. The white sauce is more tangy and creamier than the HALAL GUYS on 53rd…red sauce though…could be spicier…sad about htat…had to grab the red sauce from THE HALAL guys to enjoy it. More fat on the chicken tho but so moist and tender!!

Huge portions for just $5, PACKED with chicken and rice. It was huge, so I had half for lunch and saved the rest for dinner. It was good even when cold! I don't do well with hot stuff, so I said "little on the hot sauce". I bet the guy was thinking "… but she's Asian?!?!"
Since there are several Halal Carts around Broadway and Houston, I contemplated on which one to go to. I went to the SW corner one because it had the longest line (LOL), but they're all $5.
