  1. Expensive as hell…make sure you pre-bring in your own food

  2. Convenient.

This food court, located in Terminal 5, is off to the right just after passing thru the security check point.  There are various businesses including Dunkin Donuts, Boar's Head sandwiches, and a self-serve area where there are sodas, juices, water, baked goods, fruit, etc. available.

There are central cashiers at this food court, and therefore paying at each individual vendor is not necessary.  Simply bring all your items to the cashier and pay at one time.  I, personally, think this is convenient since you pay once versus paying multiple times if wanting/needing to visit different businesses within the food court.

Seats/tables are a bit scarce during the morning rush it seems (our flight was at 10am; we were at the food court around 830am and there were barely any seats available).  Lastly, don't be surprised by the high prices.  Afterall, this IS the airport.

BOTTOM LINE:  Convenience for those passengers passing thru Terminal 5.

  3. Service is excruciatingly slow.  I've been to the deli a few times. It's great they have Boar's Head meat, but they take forever to make a sandwich.

The line to pay is even worse. The employees are always gossiping away instead of ringing people out.  And several times I have noticed people cut the line, go straight up to the next available cashier and the cashier does not inform them about a line.

  4. This Cibo is a whole foodcourt and has plenty of variety. I recall seeing pizza, cheeseburgers, sandwiches, pasta, asian food, and a giant salad bar. They had a hot bar too and all sorts of tables and refrigerators with additional options and drinks. The great thing is that you can get items from anywhere. Mix and match your choices and then pay up front. perfect for a family who all wants something different.

  5. The food court itself is great for options and in having the convenience for people to order from different places, but then pay at one time.

With Boars Head, where I had a sandwich made, the choices were great. A build-your-own sandwich started at $4, and then based on the customizations (certain cheeses, fancy toppings, etc.) there were additional $0.50-1.00 per item charges. You order through an electronic screen and then they create the sandwiches. Once ready, you take the slip to the cashier, along with any other items, and pay.

My only complaint is that the Boars Head workers seemed a little inefficient since there were only 4 people in front of me, but it took 8-10 minutes to get my (delicious) sandwich.

  6. Review is just for Breakfast.

Located in JFK Terminal 5 (Jetblue), this large food court has an interesting concept. They have different food stalls (Italian, Donuts,Chinese, Burgers, Philly Cheesesteak) but you order with this touch screen device and get a number.  The folks making your food yells out your order when ready and you look for a cashier (located opposite the vendor stalls) to pay.

We got a couple of breakfast sandwiches from the Italian place and the food was a bit on the bland side.  When we walked around some more we found a Starbucks near Gate 22 and several sit-down places offering real breakfast.

I recommend exploring other options – the food court may seem more efficient but you may wind up in two separate lines for mediocre food.

  7. Is this the best foodcourt ever? No, no it's not.
But is it the second best foodcourt ever? Nope, not even close.
OK, well, does it get the job done for prices that are too high for what you're getting? Yeah, I guess.

I've spent a lot of time in Terminal 5 over the years, and I've eaten way, way too many meals here. Here are my opinions, some of which are unfounded, and most of which are inane:

    1. I find the buffet to be largely gross, although you can make yourself a decent salad.

    2. I've yet to eat a cheeseburger from Cheeburger Cheeburger because I can't respect people that spell a word wrong in the name of their establishment, let alone those that do it twice. (Also, I've seen the burgers, and I'm not missing out here.)

    3. We have too much great pizza in Brooklyn to eat the slop at Famiglia.

    4. I'll never get a cheesesteak from that place. It's called Philly Cheesesteak. I might as well get a burger from a place called Cheeburger Cheeburger.

So basically, I limit myself to the following two options:

    1. I get myself some Lucy's sesame chicken. It hits the spot (I'm a sucker for Americanized Chinese food), it's a large meal for a decent price (unique here), and it's SO FAST, a plus when you have to get on a plane.

    2. I build my own sandwich at the Boar's Head counter. It will cost you about $15 to get a decent sandwich, but they will actually put all the ingredients you want on it, including fresh avocado. Get double the meat if you want a real sandwich, and don't get the focaccia. It's good, but hard to eat.

And that's all I have to say about that.

  8. My favorite place to eat when running through an airport……

They have multiple venders to get entrees from.  There's sandwiches, pizza, burgers, and places to get soup, drinks and salads before check out.  Most places use a computerized ordering system to help decrease mistakes.  I tend to either get a large salad or custom made pasta.  The food is better than the typical fast food.

After gathering your food and drinks you walk over and check out. The food is at airport prices….so a little spendy but much cheaper than the restaurants that surround this.

It can get a little crazy during peak times and a little weird to navigate.  The first time through I got a little confused.

Hint: check out and walk over to the bar right around the corner…..they are more than happy to serve you while you eat your take-out and they have TV's with the games on.
