Before heading over to Dominique Ansel for our cronut order, stopped by Vin et Fleurs for a quick bite
Too late for brunch, we opted for salads & fries…..'cause everyone knows fries are the perfect pairing to salads
Not really a meal, these salads were pretty small so we were extra glad we'd also ordered fries
Beets & cheese for the Mr – liking the orange & red beets & the cheese was soft & creamy
Asparagus, Parm & Poached egg for me the asparagus was cooked nicely & hardly any stringy bits. Nice amount of Parm to ensure some cheese in every bite
The fries were regular old fries – not bad
We'd come back to try their brunch since most of the reviews rave about that – but for a quick stopover & to chase away the hunger, this place is A-OK
Booked this place 5/21/16 for a bridal shower for 21 people from 3-6pm about. My friend spoke with Ellen who assisted in making it happen. No decorations were allowed so we just gave the details of our bridal shower and she made it happen. The color theme, amount of guests, and the food preference. I came here with my friend who planned the bridal shower and was surprised on how the end result came out. Walked in to dark dimmed light, candles lit, fresh flowers on the table and everything set up(plates, champagne glass, water, and the DIY menu they created). Applause!! Everyone arrived at about 3:30-4pm, settled down and started ordering. I guess one of the man present there was a owner. He provide great assistance for drinks and foods. He made sure we needed what we want and extra. We all ordered and they served us bridesmaid first (4girls) since I guess they knew we will be following an agenda and have to be up and about throughout this event. After they served our dish, they started serving the guest's dish which wasn't too long of a wait considering 21 people. Customer service was nice. They made sure we had enough drinks etc. overall food was really delicious! Great place for any event as long as you fit in the Resturant. Nice atmosphere as well. I can say we were all satisfied and thank you for the service!
A friend and I came here as we were looking for a place for dinner in the neighbourhood, we were hungry and it's a nice looking restaurant, so we thought we'd give a try. Absolutely loved it!
We sat at the bar, the bar tender was excellent, I didn't see any drink I wanted on the menu, so I told him what I felt like to have, he just made one on his own for me and it was delicious. He was also very attentive and friendly.
Food wise, we had seared tuna, stake, mashed potato and french fries. Each dish was perfect, can't ask for more.
I'd come back here at any time.
Vin et Fleurs is one of those cute SoHo restaurants you see on Yelp but don't quite know for sure exists until you plan to come here. It is, in fact, as charming and approachable as it always sounded to me, every time I scrolled past it or forgot about it in favor of closer options. Shame on me.
VeF is small but oh so chill. If you come on the earlier side of dinner or brunch, you can easily while away a couple of hours and forget that only 2 or 3 blocks away, shopping madness reigns over nearly everybody. It's very cute here, with a garden theme as the name implies.
As for food, when we came for dinner I had the Grilled Tuna Nicoise, which was just the ticket for a light dinner. The Avocado Crevettes is very appealing as well. If you come for breakfast, the menu is pretty contained, but you'll get some great eggs Benedict if you so desire.
Plenty of good wine, too, though no obnoxious upsells, which contributes to the nice neighborhood vibe. I'm making it a regular for me and the SO. Prices are very reasonable, especially for this neighborhood.
Our last evening in Manhattan and we had to try Vin Et Fleurs. Disclaimer here, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners a few months ago in Honolulu and she invited me to dine at her restaurant the next time we were in NYC.
We arrived in the area early for our reservation so we did a bit of exploring. Trendy, high end shops, cool eateries, cobble stone street, it was a nice way to work up an appetite before our dinner. When it was time, we made our way to Vin Et Fleurs. Cozy, charming, very warm and inviting were my first impressions. The staff were first rate, made us feel very welcome.
Food: Seeing it was our last meal before we headed back, I wanted something special. Ordered a couple cocktails to start (Sidecar and a Manhattan) which were a a prefect way to unwind after our long day. We ordered the Country Pate which were served with greens, pickles, fresh hot baguettes, and what I think was a sweet onion relish. The relish added a nice sweetness to pate, the bread a nice chewy and crunchy note to every bite. We then ordered the Tune Nicoise (Tuna cooked perfectly rare), Bouillabaisse that was full of shellfish, huge pieces of shrimp, and delicate fish, and the filet mignon. Every dish was wonderful, more fresh bread was brought to the table which served as the perfect dipping tool into the bouillabaisse. Our waiter and hosts recommended several perfect wine pairings with our dishes and we ended the evening with an order of the Chocolate Cake and Tarte Tatin. Lucky for me, the Bordeaux I was currently enjoying went very well with the chocolate cake!
Service: Perfect service experience. Our host made us feel at home, patiently conversing in french with my 16 year old daughter to make her feel special. We were well taken care of in every aspect and I saw them offer the same care and attention to all of the guests dining around us.
Atmosphere: The restaurant looks bigger in some of the photos I've seen online, when we got there I was a little surprised at the actual size. I loved the bar and seating out front if you want to people watch or dine al fresco, or you can sit deeper in the restaurant for a more intimate meal.
Value: Solid value for the service and quality provided in Vin Et Fleurs. Their breakfast and lunch menus look equally appealing and are priced in line with other similar establishments.
Overall: Great experience, if I lived in NYC I would definitely be dining at Vin Et Fleurs at least monthly. We will definitely return on our next visit to city and will be recommending it to friends that are traveling there.
I seriously never give one star but damn was this place disappointing!
Usually if the food is bad and the service is good or the food is good and the service is bad I would give at least three stars but wow not only was the service bad the food was not good either. They've definitely hit the jackpot for this one!
You know how when you have a strong craving and you eat the one thing you're craving for, you feel super satisfied? Or if you're super hungry and finally ate, you feel like God has blessed your soul with food? This place made me wish I didn't come here at all! I left feeling really unsatisfied.
What I ordered – salmon eggs benefit, crab eggs Benedict, and a black Angus burger. YUM RIGHT?! I wish. This was the first time I've ever seen such a dead looking, not-so-fresh piece of salmon at a restaurant. The color was not appetizing. As for the crab, there wasn't much crab meat nor can you taste the crab. Ok now we all know egg is egg and the only way it can go wrong is by overcooking it and they've succeeded in doing that so the usual yolk spilling did not happen. A simple eggs Benedict has already brought this place to a three star. The black Angus burger wasn't juicy even though I asked for medium rare. It came with bacon on the side, which was burnt on the edge. The only thing I'd give them props for is making the fries with truffle oil. That was one thing that stood out to me because it gave the fries a little more flavor.
Now let's talk about the service – old man who gives off an uncomfortable vibe, who is also not friendly at all. Asked for more breadsticks because the food was taking a while but his look basically said no. My brother didn't know how to use the olive oil bottle and he came out of nowhere and did it with this annoyed look on his face. Not very pleasant to look at. Our cups were empty half the time. If we didn't ask them they wouldn't even fill it up. Then when we were done eating and had a lot leftover, we asked for a container and this other dude legit gave me a 2×2 box. LIKEEEE are you serious?! There's really not much thinking involved – when you see a lot of food you get a big container. Not even telling you to do math bro.
Even though the bill wasn't a lot (came out to be around $65) I still didn't think it satisfied me in any way. I paid unwillingly wishing I'd gone to another place. We originally wanted to go Westville but many people made reservations so we had to wait over half an hour. Called other places nearby to see if there's a wait but every single one did except this one. This should've been a red flag from the beginning! (Take notes guys) My stupid stomach doesn't have a brain so it didn't think, which brought us here. Next time if I'm told there's a wait, my ass is waiting fo sho.
It was not the best brunch experience at this place. It had nothing to do with the wait. (There was no wait, and I should've known what that meant on a Saturday afternoon). My mom, sister and I were waiting at Westville but it was packed and we had no reservations so we were told it would be a 30+minute wait. So we decided to go to another place close by, and that's how we ended up here.
We were seated immediately because the place was absolutely empty with two customers. Then three groups of people came after us. There was this one old guy who served us but had a weird attitude and vibe to him, wasn't especially friendly and I wouldn't even consider it humor. I would say thank you after he handed us menus and water but he didn't even look or say anything as if he didn't hear me. No interaction whatsoever. We were then given three breadsticks with butter. We ordered quickly. We ordered the eggs Benedict salmon ($16), eggs Benedict crab ($16) and black angus burger ($19). I have to say nothing was amazingly or surprisingly good, as a matter of fact, it was actually really bad. The only good thing was the breadsticks, nice and warm and crunchy. The eggs Benedict salmon, one of the eggs was fully cooked with no yolk spilling out. The salmon did not look nor taste fresh. The potatoes on the side were small as hell and no more than 20 pieces. It also came with a one-bite salad on the side. That applied to the eggs Benedict crab dish as well. I barely tasted any crab. The only good thing was both eggs has a runny yolk (but isn't that a must?). The black angus burger was far from ok for its price. It came with a piece of overlooked salty bacon. The fries had a truffle taste to it which made it alright, differently from other brunch fries/potatoes.
Before we got our food, we didn't know when it would arrive so we asked for more breadsticks. The same old guy gave us a look as if he didn't want to or had to think about whether or not he should give us more. It was just a nasty weird look. Soon shortly after our food came, he gave us some over-toasted breadsticks. When I tried to use the olive oil steel bottle on the table but couldn't really open it. He crept up next to me and turned the cap for me. When I chuckled to myself for not being able to figure out how to open it and said thank you to him, he gave me a weird look once again with no intention of laughing or smiling.
Our water cups were left empty until we asked for ice water and he gave my sister a new cup of ice water but our other cups were still left empty. Another guy saw and came to fill it up for us, but it was left empty once I was done with it again.
We couldn't finish our food so we asked for a box to take the rest to go. The guy gave us a small box which obviously would not be able to fit the left overs (one egg Benedict crab, a quarter of the angus burger, fries, potatoes, salad and one breadstick. What the hell was he thinking? So we gave him a "do you see the leftovers?" look and asked for a bigger box. We were also not given any napkins the whole meal, however they probably felt the bathroom needed that more because the bathroom was filled with stacks of napkins.
One last unacceptable thing was when we were leaving, the old guy who mainly served us was standing by the door on our way our. I said thank you and he didn't even look at us or say anything to us. Not even a thank you! How rude, definitely unacceptable. I will never go back, since the food and service were not up to par of my brunch standards and they're not high and hard to satisfy. This place and the people were just not acceptable. I still give it a two star because I like the breadsticks and fries. The food here was actually pretty expensive compared to other GOOD brunch places. The photos might show it as an usual brunch place food but you would have to taste it yourself to know how bad it tasted (which I don't recommend you do).
Visiting NYC for work, and I was sure to squeeze in as many culinary delights as possible. A group of us came here on a Tuesday night for dinner. It's a small spot but our group of 12 was accommodated by a few 4-tops pushed together.
Loved the dark, cozy ambiance, with dim, glowing candlelight. Service was a bit slow but our group did show up in shifts. We ordered a few sides to go with our entrees, as well as appetizers to split. Burrata salad was a let-down because…it wasn't burrata, it was a caprese. I love a good caprese but this was definitely a tease. The beet salad was refreshing and tasty.
I really wanted the halibut entree, which they were out of. Instead, they offered sole. I opted for it and was a little disappointed. The fish was quite mushy. Mashed potatoes were quite good however, super creamy and rich, just the way I like 'em! The cote du rhone was delicious, I'd go back for that alone.
All in all a cozy spot, but probably better for date night.
