Paradiso

“Finally, the slightly-less-gentrified stretch of blocks east of Tompkins Square Park have been blessed with the cutest little Italian cafe.”

“The only issue is that they are not particularly laptop friendly, as there are no available outlets for customers to use.”

“Alessandra and Jose are salt of the earth people with a great philosophy on being a truly neighborhood joint.”

  1. We stumbled into this little cafe on our last day in NYC and I was disappointed that they didn't have macaroons. I opted for an italian soda which was good, but a little too sweet. The staff were very friendly and I'm sure if I lived in this neighbourhood I would pop by from time to time.

  2. iced coffee for a good price. excellent panini and sandwich selection. reading material!
    an array of treats
    very friendly service!
    *cash only*

  3. The first time I got hot chocolate here to stay, it was good. Looks like the place is owned by an old man. However, the 2nd time my bf picked up hot chocolate to go, it was super diluted  and tasted like instant powder. Not sure what happened there. Never had coffee here. The place is cute inside and has that local café feel.

  4. I've had two rather unpleasant experiences here.

I went for the wi-fi and iced coffee, hoping to get some work done. I'm glad they have magazines to sift through, and the iced coffee is fine. Even after the first time, I came back and gave it another chance because it was the closest cafe to me that was open on Monday.

However, there are a few things that made me want to leave pretty quickly on both occasions.
    1. The owner is really gruff. One time I asked him about the Internet, and he kind of barked at me. Not sure if it's because he's Italian (?) and that's what Italians do, but it scared me nonetheless.
    2. Never asks me if it's for here or to go. So I got my chocolate croissant in a bag, not on a plate, which made it a little messy to eat.
    3. There were flies everywhere. Yuck.
    3. It's hot. Really hot. I wanted to pass out toward the end.
    4. Flies. Always the flies.

Too many coffee shops in the area…I don't think I'll be back (for real this time).

  5. Wandered in here on a Sunday to study.  Walked up to the counter to order but I wanted to sit so I asked if I had to order from a waitress to get a table.  The guy didn't really say anything,  handed me a menu, so I took it and sat by the window.  Was looking it over for about 10 minutes, doing some work on my laptop, and then a lady finally came over to tell me I can't use computers from 12-4pm (even though there were only 2 other people in there!)  So I left, hungry, and headed to B Cup cafe!

  6. Good sandwich place across the street. During the day it can take a bit to get the sandwich made, but it is tasty. I had a prosciutto/pesto on a baguette. A bit pricy, but better than most lunch sandwich places.

  7. HOMEMADE TIRAMISU

finally stopped in to grab a $5 slice of tiramisu to-GO
—tiramisu: not bad, moist w/ real lady fingers! but i like my tiramisu w/ more mascarpone & rum flavor!

if you give them advance notice you can also order a whole tray!!

NOTE: it's a cafe you can study at during the week, BUT they ask that patrons not bring laptops to do work on weekends since the place is small!!

  8. We walked Kuno towards Tompkins Square Park and on the way, stopped at a small place called Paradiso Cafe. My brother had to get a bagel. I'm not a big fan of bagels, but I figure that I'm in New York and I might as well go for it. I have to say that the bagel with butter and jelly was quite tasty.
