My wife told me one night lets go eat out. She said, "Henan" food. I said sure, "Hunan", NO, "Henan" with an "E". Never heard of this part of China before, so I said why not.
The restaurant is located on the basement level. I must have walked right past this place several times, I never knew a restaurant even existed here!
Once you walk in you can visually see and smell that this is going to be something special! The staff here is friendly, but really don't speak a lick of English, even their "Ching-lish" Chinese and English combination was weak.
Thank God I married my multilingual wife, she was able to explain all the dishes on the menu. They also posted a bulletin board with pictures of the various dishes they serve to help the non speaking Chinese patrons and the "ABC's" (American Born Chinese)
After placing your order just find a seat and wait. When it's ready they will call you. After consuming your food , clean up after yourself and dump out the trash, stroll up to the counter and pay, sorry, no credit cards, CASH ONLY!
Must try, Pork pancake! I don't know what "Henan magic" they do to this mince pork filling, but it is delicious! The Big Tray of chicken is also a must have, swimming in a fiery concoction of spicy peppercorns and potatoes, hand pulled noodles are nestled nicely on top of this tray of chicken, can life get any better?
We also tried the beef soup in vermicelli, delicate slices of beef in a light flavorful broth. I heard this place is famous for the lamb and dumplings. Too bad I only have one stomach, we'll save that for the next visit.
I just recently discovered the restaurant offers Shabu Shabu! You can't beat the price since it is "AYCE" hot pot. The only downside is they only offer one large shabu pot per table. The sodas are unlimited, but beer and specialty drinks are extra. Just be aware the Shabu restaurant is in the rear of the main restaurant, you can walk through or enter through another set of doors in the front.
Remember boys and girls, it's "Henan with an "E" not "U"!
lamb noodle soup is popular in the winter but flavor is popular all year round. this place is an offshoot of the now closed henan flavor in chinatown.
There are several tables here and they are not cramped and it is never overly crowded like the other lamb noodle places in flushing. its clean and very bright here.
located on a side street just off of main in flushing this place proves that going off the beaten path is worth it. If you walk down the street past red chopstick and a bar karaoke place keep going until you see an outside metal staircase and look down and it is located on a lower level.
The pork pancake is one of the best that I have had. the pancake is made fresh with enough constitution to hold up to the moist pork filling that goes inside of it. Once you start eating it you cannot stop. Its not overly or heavily spiced but has just enough flavor to balance out the simple taste of the pancake. If it didnt fill me up so much I would keep eating them all day long. I find this a good alternative snack from having a cha siu bao from a bakery any day.
the lamb noodle soup is also something I keep coming back here for. The herbal broth has a nice taste accented by the fresh chopped cilantro they put in it along with the lamb pieces and 2 types of noodles. They use hand pulled noodles here so it may take a short wait for them to prepare. the taste of the broth is not as rich as other restaurants but it will satisfy my lamb noodle cravings. Add some hot chili oil they give you and you are all set.
if you come here you will observe people doing the ambidextrous eating technique of chopsticks in one hand hovered over their noodle soup and pork pancake in the other. Great use of both hands if you ask me.
They have other items here and if you dont know mandarin you can look at the picture menu on the wall and point. The owner stays at the register and will try and help you.
The other popular items here is the big tray of chicken. Kind of like a chicken that has been stewed served on a big tray and good for sharing. if you do not like bones then do not order this. Bones are lurking and waiting to stab you in the mouth. you can ask for extra noodles on the side if you want but the big tray contains chicken only.
The leek dumplings are also a good appetizer but i would save the space for the noodles and pork pancake.
They have a bathroom but it is located in another room which is an empty office space where they keep supplies. Go with a buddy.
Definitely stop in here to try the pork pancake and if you like lamb noodle. cheap, uncrowded, clean and a good lunch spot.
This review is for the restaurant before it became a hot pot place. There a lot of good dumplings in Flushing. The dumplings here are worth a visit. They are juicy and full of flavor. The wrapper is a little thick.
This place is legit! Authentic and affordable. Absolutely love it.
This restaurant is actually kind of spacious. It has lots of tables. If I am not mistaken, it may also have some tables in the back area.
I walked in and was greeted by the chefs. One chef took my order. I wanted to try the lamb noodles and he started throwing noodle half-way in the air. Great skills! You also get to choose if you want a small or big bowl. Small bowl only costs $4.5 and big bowl is $6.5.
I absolutely loved the soup that comes with the noodle bowl. It is delicious. I also like how they give you these sweet garlic things. Super tasty.

It seems like they also sell beer and other drinks here so that may be a good choice to accompany your meal.

came here on the premise that it was an 18 dollars ayce deal, but was slightly disappointed when the bill came and the tax bumped up the price to around 20 dollars, no matter this place is still a good deal considering it was all you can drink sodas as well. From what I was told, add an extra three bucks and its all you can drink beer, which makes this place a pretty awesome deal overall. still a 3.5 imo
As far as quality is concerned, they have a wide variety of vegetables, tofu based food items and the ever illustrious fishball/meatball combo. The area they do lack in though however is the sliced meats / seafood department, quality was a little subpar and the selection was fairly limited, the condiments could use some work as well, since they were pretty much out of everything and I had to make due with what was left.
overall a nice cheap place with an incredibly authentic atmosphere. Nothing represents chinese restaurants quite like shady basement back area eateries, with no signs advertisement or english spoken within a 30 foot radius
This small place is only a block away from the hustle and bustle of Main St, but it's far away enough for it to be not too loud or crowded. They have quite an impressive selection of food, but we just went straight for the Henan lamb hui mian (noodles). They were definitely worth their value–can't go wrong with a big bowl of delicious noodle soup for 5 bucks, and they're always making the noodles fresh in front of you. I haven't tried the hui mian anywhere else (the food court in the mall has a place that comes to mind), but the noodles here were absolutely enjoyable.
