I came here as part of a momo crawl organized earlier this month and tried the beef momos. I thought these were the best of the ones I tried because the skin was soft and the momos were juicy. Typically 8 for $5….will def come back for a cheap bite to eat 🙂
I actually prefer this cart (more like a truck…because it is a truck) over the nearby Potala Fresh Momo. This is only because of my preference of a juicier momo/dumpling, so I'd advise everyone to give both a try before deciding.
It's the pretty standard $5 for 8 momos, and they also come out hot! You WILL burn your mouth if you pop these right in. The skin on these are also thinner than Potala's so there's not as much of the doughey texture and taste.
In my humble opinion, the extra soup makes the flavor of the momo pop more, almost like a juicy medium rare steak instead of a not as juicy medium well. 8 momos are certainly enough for a snack or small meal…or a full meal if you're a light eater, which is not me.
I will fully admit I'm a total newb when it comes to Tibetan/Himalayan cuisine — but this cart is fantastic. Your options are limited: chicken momo, beef momo, and/or bread (a relatively big piece for $1 or I guess the whole loaf for $8). But what this guy does, he does well. Ordered 8 delicious beef momo and a piece of bread totaling $6 the other night and wowza! So good! And so cheap! The dumplings are nice and soupy inside and come with soy sauce, hot sauce, and white sauce (which is REALLY GOOD). I don't use the soy much, just mix the hot and white for awesomeness. Go here for a quick food fix the next time you're in the area.
A new competitor to the Potala Tibetan momo cart that has been in Jackson Heights for years has recently appeared. The quality of momos at this one are good and the price is the same as well (8 pieces for 5 bucks). However, A&G also offers something the other guy doesn't have – balep. Balep is a flat Tibetan bread that is used to accompany a main meal. It's round and is like a pita. It pretty much tastes like normal bread but a small piece is only a dollar, so why not give it a try?
I think the dumplings were 8 for $5. Not that bad. They weren't the best dumplings I ever had our the cheapest but I was there and was in the mood so this was fine. It's really hard to pull your car over and order this. The area is very hectic. Any place in Jackson Heights is! I went away with my lunch and started to eat the dumplings. They give you some hot sauce to dip the dumplings in. Please be aware this is not your ordinary hot sauce. Many people can handle this I'm sure but to me this was take your breathe away forever and I can't breathe sauce! I couldn't even use a little! I couldn't taste anything. Never again. All in all this cart was average to me. But that sauce will put you in a hospital!
