Gorilla Coffee
“They were totally chill with my iced tea from Hungry Ghost, hooked it up with wifi, plentiful seating and good coffee.”
“Still as good as it's brother down the street, with a side of interior design class and the added benefit of Doughnut Plant.”
“Downside:
* Most outlets are covered, so if you have a computer, you can't stay long.”

Solid, but they need to serve regular drip coffee past 11am. Forcing customers to order pour overs sounds like a great business idea (less waste, higher price per visit), but feels rip-offy.
I'm pretty shocked at the general negativity (and paucity, considering it's been open for at least six months) of the reviews here. True, the staff can be a bit inattentive depending on who is working, but most of them are nice. They work pretty slow, but I think a lot of it has to do with the effort they put into making their drinks. One time, when I ordered a iced coffee "out of season" (i.e. not summer when they have it ready-made) the barista cheerfully spent seven or eight minutes doing an iced pourover for me, weighing beans, grinding them, etc etc. (It recalled a certain Louis CK standup bit I cannot repeat.)
I have not noticed any sort of fly or air circulation problem (even on the hottest days of this summer), and the bathroom is perfectly clean.
More importantly, the coffee is outstanding, especially the iced. The baked goods are excellent too. (Helps to have Doughnut Plant of course — but who knows how long that will last, with DP opening up 100 feet away this fall? City doughnut vendors, pay attention to a possible new account.)
One of my top coffee choices in the area.
Great coffee, chilaxing vibe, space for sitting and working, cool staff, and even ice cubes r gourmet looking. Mmm
Looks like I forgot to review Gorilla. Great place on a wonderful block.
The renovated space looks great, with painted brick walls and modern lighting.
It's Gorilla Coffee, so you know it's good stuff.
And the folks who work here couldn't be nicer!
These guys have really really stepped up their game. Primo coffee on offer.
I'm drinking the IXIL A'ACHIMBAL GUATEMALA single origin espresso right now which is a bourbon typica varietal.
The label says it is floral, tangerine & buttery & while I'm not sure my palate is quite that advanced, it sure makes me feel good to drink it!
For me the biggest thing about taste is prep & they do it carefully here.
New shop has only been open a couple months. I asked about the cold brew cartons but they are all out at the moment.
I will definitely have an excuse now
To check back often!
How coffeeshops gets me to pay $4 for a cold ice coffee, I'm not exactly sure.
Average coffee, still yawned a few times when I was doing work at the shop. The wifi crashed for 30 minutes, with only one staff in the shop so it took awhile to get the internet back on.
I walked into Gorilla Coffee hoping to get some work done, maybe i came on a bad day. Might revisit if I can't find any other coffee shops nearby.
Wow, yelpers haven't been shy about dishing out some haterade. I've been to this new location a few times now and I don't think it's as bad as some of the reviews have made it out to be. I've always had friendly, prompt service, even when there's been a long line out the door. I like the coffee here – it's strong and aromatic, and there's a soy dispenser (all characteristics that Prospect Perk lacks). The main reason I come here is for the cakey Donut Planet donuts- staple flavors include the PB&J, blackout, tres leches and coconut lime. Yum.
All that being said, there are definitely some issues with this location– the foremost being the very apparent fly issue. Gorilla could easily address this by just closing its front door. They're fortunately smart enough to keep the food behind a glass door. Nevertheless, it's still pretty annoying and disgusting having to deal with the not insignificant number of flies buzzing around. The front part of the shop is also really hot– again, because of the always open front door. There is A/C, but it only seems to circulate around the back of the shop. Finally, it seems like there might be some issues getting coffee and food after a certain hour here– I've only been here before 10AM, so I can't speak firsthand. But if it's true that they don't brew after 11, then that is definitely also an issue they should fix asap.
I have nothing bad to say about this place. I came in to kill time while waiting for a friend, and I'm glad that this place was nearby.
It was clean, bright, and modern. It seemed like a good space to study/do work. The people next to me were even doing an informal interview. It's fairly quiet, so I felt relaxed in there.
My latte was pretty good – nothing too amazing. It had some latte art, which is cool. No complaints here.
I'd probably come back if I were in the area and needed to kill time.
