  1. Ahhhhhhh! What's not to say about his place! I first tried the quesadilla and loved it but nowwwwww I think I'm in love with the Baja Caesar salad and add grilled fish! I checked in and trying the Jamaica Agua Fresca and it's amazing! Absolutely a great place to bring a friend. Thumbs up over here!

  2. Satisfied my taco cravings, for sure. Not the best tacos I've ever had in my life, but they were definitely a-ok tacos.

Dorado is a small taco joint in the Union Sq area. I was just walking by when I came across this place. There's a lot of Mexican places in the area that I've already tried, so I was excited to try a new one.

I decided to try two fish tacos- one that was their special dorado fish taco and the other one that was shrimp. They were $2.95 each and I added on rice and beans, which was only an additional $2-3 if you bought two or more items. Pretty okay deal.

Overall, everything was just OKAY. I wasn't too wow-ed by the deep fried tacos drowning in sauces. I wish it was a little more fresh and less greasy. I was a little displeased that my rice and beans were a little cold and very bland. No seasoning whats-so-ever. I took mine to-go, so probably assumed I would preheat it or something. I wish I would have stayed-in to eat, because the tacos were really sloppy. They looked much better on everyone's plate.

I would only recommend this place if you're craving a quick bite to eat in the area. I'm sure they have other good food, just wasn't pleased by what I got. On the bright side, they have a Yelp Check-In, so I got a free drink.

  3. Pros:
    * Cute decor and ambiance.
    * We tried the grilled fish (grilled mahi mahi, cabbage, crema, tomatillo & avocado salsa), fried fish (beer battered Atlantic whitefish, cabbage, crema, pickled onions, salsa fresca), and shrimp tacos (beer battered chipotle shrimp, jicama, crema, pineapple salsa). We found them tasty and fresh.

    Cons:
    * Still prefer the fried fish tacos at Rockaway Taco. Wasn't a fan of the taco skins, which were dry and thick (Having 2 skins took away from the ingredients).
    * They put way too much coleslaw on the top of the tacos, which made it difficult to eat and the tacos fell apart.

  4. Was here for Baja taco Wednesday, and while a good deal ($2 tacos, instead of $2.95 regular price), the fish was completely bland (and no salt available to add, since someone stole the salt shaker earlier in the week – such bandits!). The tacos were difficult to eat also – doused thick with crema, and stuffed fat with slaw, which is generous and kind, but the fish just kept falling out along with everything else. Desperate for some flavor, we added some diablo hot sauce on the table, but please don't do that. I'd rather have bland than complete funk. Unfortunately this place was a complete miss.

  5. Needed to grab some food today around 2ish before my fiancé's film festival screening next door at Cinema Village. It needed to be close by and we were torn between Chipotle or Dorado but we decided to support the "little guy" and eat here.

I ordered a grilled chicken taco and asked for no salsa or veggies – just chicken and cheese. Simple stuff, right? They asked how I wanted my quesadilla in terms of spiciness and I asked for it as mild as they can make it. You get your pick of salsa or sour cream and I went for yummy sour cream.

What I actually received? I got a grilled chicken quesadilla with salsa slathered inside, tons of chopped up corn and tomato cubes and it was spicy. Thankfully it was a level of spicy I could tolerate but I would have definitely enjoyed my chicken quesadilla much more had it been prepared how I asked…and how I paid for.

Sour cream was nowhere to be found so I had to get up and ask for it. I also explained to the woman who took my order at the register and someone who appeared to be a manager that my quesadilla was not what I had asked for.

The manager responded that the veggies were from the salsa and I reiterated that I asked for no salsa. Neither one of them seemed to care – Yelp stars off for inability to execute a simple order and for poor customer service.

Thankfully the quesadillas here are pretty cheap at about $8 a pop (after tax) – but I've had superior ones at places that don't even specialize in Mexican/Baja TexMex cuisine…like Atomic Wings. My quesadilla also barely had any chicken in it. I legitimately left here still feeling hungry :-/.

My fiancé ordered 2 tacos (1 beef and 1 chicken) and while he felt that they were yummy his eyes did bug out when he realized that they're micro-sized. For $3-4 dollar tacos these shells are undoubtedly small and as a result, they hold less meat. If you come here hungry and have a hankering for tacos, then be sure to get a side of rice & beans to help keep you satiated (only $1.75 extra if you order 2 tacos).

My fiancé's friend ordered nachos with a side of salsa and a side of guac. These were simple basic nachos that looked as if they were made in-house so that's great. They were however, doused with way too much salt.

In all, flavor-wise, things here were ooooookay but not amazing. I would come back if they actually got my order right and stuffed my quesadilla with chicken…the way it should be…on Wednesdays they have $1.99 tacos at some point and considering how small they are, this is a much better price point.

3 stars for meh, not bad – I've had better.

  6. Enjoyed some tacos here. Had the Baja original taco (Atlantic whitefish), grilled mahi taco, and shrimp taco. All three were different and tasty.

Besides 8 different taco options, they have Quesadillas, Soups, Salads, and daily specials.

They also have some Mexican bottled beer.

  7. I went here because I didn't want to become a sickly statistic from Chipoltle. But I found them to be more expensive.
The salsa on the quesadilla was good and the steak was good. But they charge extra not just for guacamole but sour cream too! The quesadilla and coke was over $10. At Chipoltle, I could have sour cream.

  8. I went here on a weekend and my experience was HORRIBLE. There was a loud, rowdy crowd, but the owner (who was standing There) did nothing. The bull was $7 for a soup and 3 quesadillas which was a good deal, but it was $3.50 for a TINY taco (see my pictures). The meat was poor quality and the sauce was way too spicy for the average person. The bread didn't cover the meat (too small of a piece). The only reason I came here was because I am celiac (gluten free), and Yelp had it under gluten free. When I ordered the soup & quesadillas for my grandmother and the taco for me they put it on the same plate on top of each other which is cross contamination and can make me very ill. I called over the owner and he made a new one, but he was not apologetic at all.
The seats were also SO uncomfortable and you're sitting on top of each other, literally.
I would never come here again.
