Food is definitely good. Service too. Can't complain about a thing. Odd location though. Totally out of the way and by itself. Has it's own parking lot which is good. Friday night kinda early but not crowded. Would come back if in the mood for good bar food and a few beers. Music is rock and roll. Check it out!
If Bantry Bay Publik House were located anywhere else, it would be a solid 4-star. Since there's no other bar halfway as decent in the area (that I know of), I think it's really a 5-star spot for Sunnyside.
Located across the cemetery with no subway station within at least 0.7 mile, Bantry Bay Publik House is generally quiet. It's a great spot to get a quick drink and a bite to eat if you're in the area (and if you are, why are you in this stretch of no man's land anyway?). Service is great and the food is actually really good for pub fare. If you come here on a weekday afternoon, you'll encounter a friendly and interesting crowd. One time, I walked in on the after-work crowd discussing what hashtags were. It made me realize that I really suck at explaining even simple concepts (my contribution to the discussion was basically making gestures resembling the hashtag symbol in the air and shrugging my shoulders). Another time, I swear I thought I heard some traditional Irish band playing in the other room (either they use this Publik House as a gathering place or I was delusional and imagining things, both entirely possible).
So yes, if you are in the area, you should drop by Bantry Bay Publik House, get a G&T (they make them pretty strong), some chicken marsala bites, or some of their homemade soup! They do accept credit cards, there are some TVs and a jukebox (the newer kind).
