When you walk in, the place smells of the Northern Asian spices. Good or bad? You can determine that but I promise the soups do not smell like the air. The first time we went, we got the mixed original broth and the tomato based soups. The second time we ordered the original with the mushroom based soup. The latter (even though I do love my tomato soup) was a really great mix.
As soon as you get to your table, order the soup base. When the soup(s) arrive, drink 2 bowls of each soup. Then choose your topping from a ridiculously long menu. Meats range from beef to pork to chicken and of course, lamb. The veggie platter is a must because veggies are a staple (no, not grains but veggies). The tofu platter is great (if you're into tofu). The mixed balls platter was meh. The mushroom platter is also worth ordering. They have fried crullers. I've come to learn that every country has their version of a fried cruller. This one's the salty yummy Asian fried kind. So, so delicious and so incredibly overpriced (six less than six inch slices for almost $3? Really? There's a place maybe a block away that sells two for $1).
While you wait for the platters and additions to arrive, drink two more bowls of soup. Get your sauce at the fixings bar. Come back to the table and drink two more bowls of soup. Ask for refills. Then proceed to drink 6 bowls of soup. When the food arrives, drink two more bowls of soup. Ask for another refill, then begin cooking the hot pot items.
If you couldn't tell, their soup base is pretty darn tasty.
Price-wise, this place does cost way more than other hot pot places around Flushing. This place easily costs two to three times more than other places but their soup base….
First off, their tomato broth was just amazing. Once you try it, you will probably see hot pot way differently. Ok to start, this restaurant is located in Skyview mall. Decor is modern. Place was really clean and neat. Even the sauce station was surprisingly clean and organized.
Before we entered, we saw a big poster advertising their weekday special for lunch. Their "business lunch" was a pretty good deal, comes with a little of everything like your choice of one meat (fatty beef, lamb, or chicken), some vegetables, 2 types of mushrooms, corn, egg, fish ball, and a crabmeat stick for $9.99. They normally charge $3.75 per person for the broth but with this deal that charge was waived. In addition to the special, we also tried their supreme lamb, beef ribeye, and pork belly slices. The tomato broth tasted unique and blended perfectly with all the items. Even though I mixed my own sauce, I probably didn't even use it that much because the tomato broth is that good. The fatty beef was better than the ribeye beef surprisingly. I would have assume the more expensive cut would be better but the proportion of fat and meat made it more tasty and suitable for hot pot. The pork belly wasn't as good as other hot pot place and can probably skip.
Overall, their food was really fresh. Service was really good and fast. Servers were really polite and helpful. It is just a little pricey compared to other hot pot places.
My boyfriend and I will make the hour-long trek from Manhattan every few weeks just to come eat here. Which is saying something since I'm the type of person who lives and works in a 20 block radius.
The restaurant is located inside the new mall on the edge of flushing (about 5-7 minute walk from the 7 stop), and as others have pointed out is new and modern-looking.
It's never too crowded where you have to wait for a table, and the staff is fairly friendly and fast the times I've gone. While there may be better or cheaper hot pot places out there, most of them require reservations weeks in advance or hour-long waits.
The portions are really generous here, and they have a good selection of pretty much everything you'd want for hotspot. The veggies are always fresh and clean and the meat/seafood chilled (doesn't look like it's been sitting out at room temp, which is sometimes questionable at other places…)
A little bit pricier than the other hot pot places in Flushing but it was clean and nice. This location is located in Skyview Mall. My friend and I came on a weekday night and it was not crowded at all. I brought my two-year-old son and the restaurant had booster seats for him. Their selection of meats, veggies and sauces were pretty standard. They played good, current mainstream music. What we loved the most was that they had inexpensive pitchers of beer. One pitcher was easily 3 or 4 glasses of beer split among the two of us so it was a very good deal!
3.5 stars
How many different Little Lamb/Sheep do they have in Flushing? I feel like I lost count 😉
I grew up eating hot pot but the idea of paying to hot pot still confuses me a bit, this is exactly what my mom will say when I tell her I'm going out for hot pot.- why not just buy the ingredients and do it at home? In a way I agree with her, you can pretty much arrange for everything you need for hot pot at home. So when we do go out for hot pot, it's really for the convenience of things.
Little Lamb Mongolian Hot Pot is located right inside Skyview Mall, right next to Applebees, easy to locate.
Parking: Skyview Mall got a first 3 hour free promo (afterward it's like 5 bucks or something like that) and it's pretty easy to find parking even on the weekends.
Decor and Ambiance: The place is spacious and very clean. It wasn't too hot or stuffy inside. There's no individual pots here but at least the table is big and far enough apart so you don't have to listen to the next table blah. Nothing out of the ordinary and very simple but cozy. Estimate seating to be around 60+
We came to Little Lamb on a Friday night at around 8:30pm and the place was pretty pack. We waited for about 15 minutes and then got seated.
First thing to order was the soup base- There's always one daredevil in the group so we had to get her the "Mala" spicy soup base. When I say spicy, they don't play here, it's really spicy, this Mala stuff is basically filled with red pepper and the spice lingers in your tongue for a prolong period of time! Really if you can't handle your spice, don't try it!!
For the rest of us- less daring, we went for the herbal broth, it's filled with a lot of chinese herbs that I wouldn't be able to tell you but it's supposed to be good, so I'll take their words for it 😉
After you got that down, they'll give you a paper to select your meat, veggie, seafood, pastries/noodles and various balls (fishballs, beefballs, squidballs and etc). I will highly suggest getting the "Selected Fatty Beef" here because they are very fresh, have great meat/fat ratio and very thinly sliced. The Flounder Filet was fresh and not slimy and cooks in seconds. In the Balls department, definitely go for the Fish Roe Filling Balls and the Pork Meatballs, both of them have fillings that are delicious, just be careful when you bite into it, both of my friends burnt their tongue with it. If you are like me, always need carbs, get yourself some Udon, there's a reason behind it, Udon absorbs the broth and making it super flavorful! Veggie of course is optional 😉 but you should try getting some taro, it's delicious!! just make sure to pick it up before it dissolves into the broth.
After you submit your final paper, go at it at the sauces station- Here you'll want to be as creative as possible without causing your stomach to have diarrhea. My favorite combo will of course be the Shacha sauce, hot chili oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, Sriracha, hefty amount of scallion and minced garlic. Sure your breath will kick afterward but at least you'll kick it with a happy stomach. One thing I didn't see was eggs, I love the raw egg in the sauce combo but too bad they don't have it.
Once the food is all there, start cooking your meat and dip them into the sauce! MAKE SURE YOU DON"T OVERCOOK YOUR FATTY BEEF!! They take literally 10 seconds to cook!!!
Service: Not bad, wasn't the friendliest bunch of servers but at least we got our water filled!
Cost: varies- depending on how much your group eats, for the healthy appetite eaters, aim to order around $20 worth of food per person, our group ended up ordering too much and had left over to take home (btw, they'll give you a bag to take all your raw food home)
Overall: Great place for Hotpot, probably one of the better ones in Flushing since it's not super crowded, it's clean, decent service, fresh ingredient and at a good price point. I'm curious to know what they do over the summer, so I'll plan to visit again during the summer for another review update!
Little Lamb is doing many things right – the ambience, the service, and proximity to parking. However, it's also hindered by its price and distance to central Flushing. For a hot pot place, Little Lamb has great upscale decor with large flatscreen TVs everywhere, marble floors, and a spacious open setting. The servers are usually pretty attentive and refill your soup base. I have a feeling drivers in the winter will choose this hot pot place over others in Flushing just because it has 3 hour free parking and you don't even need to step outside to get here. However, if you're a public transit or walking person, Little Lamb is a bit out of the way and it's prices are too steep to justifiably come here all the time. There are few "combo" packages and everything is a la carte. It'll come out to be around $25/person for lunch and $35/person for dinner.
So I'm not the biggest fan of hot pot and this place seems to be everywhere these days. This location is in the Skyview shopping center and I was pleasantly surprised.
The entire restaurant smells of the spicy soup (if you like that kind of aroma) and it's very clean. Service was pretty good and the server spoke both English and Chinese fluently, which is nice sometimes. We got the lunch special which constituted a few pieces of meat and the usual veggies. Sauce station was extensive although I like the one at Minnie's a bit better. By far the best choice when it comes to eating at Skyview.
It's not as cheap as I would like it to be. Even all-you-can-eat hotpot places in NYC are cheaper. But it's undeniable that the food there is good. The food is fresh and the ingredients for your sauce is also fresh. Meats could be a better though imo.
The staff was nice, just inefficient. I just wish the food came a bit faster. My pot would be boiling, but there would be no food to cook 🙁 And for something like hotpot, you need a lot of water, for your pot and to quench your thirst. But my water was only refilled once, when I was about to leave. As for the soup, I had to ask them a number of times before getting it refilled.
I also went there once when it was raining outside. Once I stepped in, they had black mats placed on the floor which did absolutely nothing. The entire floor was still wet and I almost slipped. Not exactly impressed by that.
