Nicr addition to the neighborhood. I love Roti and I'm so happy there is somewhere uptown that offers it. The interior is really cute and offers waiter service. The staff were attentive and our found came out right away. I've eaten 2x so far and i've been pleased with the curry chicken roti dish. I sure hope this place sticks around!!
Phoned in a take out order around 6:30pm 6/8/16.
I will preface by saying I'm a Trini with access to some of the best roti, curry, buss-up etc around Brooklyn and Queens. I really wanted to like this place cause it would be heaven to have access to good curry in the city but…geez!
There's a difference between buss up and dhalphorie. If you don't know the difference, then you'll be fine. If you prefer dhalpourie, then you'll be ok. If however, like me, you prefer buss up, give this one a pass. I asked for 2 potato buss up, only to be told the potato is sold separately. No problem, it's always separate. I should have known then I wasn't getting buss up. I also ordered 2 jerk chicken sandwiches.
The good the bad and the ugly.
GOOD…well really just ok.
Dhalphorie was ok. Nothing outstanding about it except the fact it wasn't buss up which was what I ordered.
BAD…
The potato channa I had to pay $5 extra on the side? Nothing but big chunks of potato with a dash of channa. Ugh. Maybe if I offered to pay twice as much to hold the potato I might have gotten a reasonable amount of channa. It was really irritating. Bad enough I have dhalphourie, you can't even give a fair serving of curry channa? Wtf?
UGLY…
Sweet lord the jerk chicken sandwich. Abomination is too kind a word for this taste travesty. First of all, a more bland version of jerk I have never before tasted. It was like the chef forgot to add jerk seasoning when he was preparing the chicken, remembered too late then just dusted some on the finished product. Not that you could really taste the chicken. Between two thick pieces of.. God alone knows what disgusting bready THING. It was absolutely horrid! Ended up taking apart the sandwich only to discover there was more slaw and bread than actual jerk chicken. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
Never never never will I patronize this embarassment of a Caribbean restaurant again. If you are West Indian and want to take your friends to an authentic taste of the islands…GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE!!!
