Forest Hills Diner
“Weekend brunch ($12.95) that includes a mimosa or sangria is reasonable especially in this neighborhood.”

I went to go pickup my dry cleaning next door and decided to give this diner a shot for lunch. I ordered their bacon cheeseburger w/ fries and it was surprisingly good and very filling.
The sesame bun is nice and toasty. The burger patty was fairly large and juicy and they give a pretty good amount of fries for the price they charge. My friend ordered their sweet potato fries, it wasn't as good. They were a wee bit skinny and soggy for my taste. Service was great and the pickles are good.
Verdict – I really wouldn't mind coming back here for lunch again. After all of the other bad diner experiences in Forest Hills, this one really surprised me.
fact: when the Dutch colonists settled in New York hundreds of years ago, they named this area "Furst Heelsch", which is Dutch for "land of many diners". even today, we honor those intrepid colonists and their dreams of eating establishments with extensive and cheap dining options.
the brunch menu is served from 7 AM to 4 PM on weekends. so whether you awake early or late, but still have an urge for a mildly alcoholic start to your day, this is your place. for $12.95, you get your brunch dish, a fruit cup, coffee/tea/juice, toast, and a mimosa or sangria. pretty solid deal!
I went for the Italian frittata: egg, sausage, peppers, onions, and mozzarella. while not the best frittata I've had, it was still delicious and filling. the rest of my meal was likewise: not the best, but still good. honestly, I don't expect good sangria at a diner, but it was actually decent.
service was fast and the whole place was clean. oh, they also have free wifi and you can get a ticket validated for free parking at the adjacent garage (I have a grueling 4-minute walk back home) .
note that while Forest Hills has a ton of diners (am I on an unofficial quest to go to all of them? maybe), very few are open 24/7. this one is not (I've passed by it many times walking home from the 71st Ave express stop, sadly longing for pancakes or disco fries at 3 AM).
How can a diner mess up a bacon and egg on a roll?
1 piece of extremely thin gross bacon and one over cooked dry egg.
If you can't make an egg I don't want to try anything else.
I never thought this diner was that good until the ownership changed. Now there are Latin offerings–really good empanadas!–and the quality of the food just seems better. It's a standard diner with a quiet atmosphere conducive to conversation, and cheap prices.
it's a nice addition to the area – just wish it was a little closer to continental. a la carte menu is not cheap. but the early bird special is a great value. and the service is pretty good.
