I've had this place bookmarked for a long time, and finally made it here!
I walked in with 2 of my girlfriends and we managed to snag a table downstairs, where you can listen to live jazz music. There is also a main floor as well as a garden at the back that has huge lanterns!
This is an intimate date spot, with reasonably priced food. The tables are quite close to each other, so you will be quite intimate with the other people sitting near you. I was actually disappointed with the service, our waitress took our orders and only came to check on us once. By then, I was super thirsty because she had not come in forever.
There is an extensive pizza list, as well as lasagna list. There was also a small list of calzones. I was surprised there weren't really any pasta dishes (other than the lasagna) and not really any protein dishes (such as baked chicken, fish etc). I had the smoke salmon pizza which was so good. The crust was thin and crispy, the amount of cheese was perfect, it wasn't too overwhelming. The pizza is pretty filling, I wish I hadn't eaten the whole thing because I had no space for desert!
Will I come back again? HELL YEAH!
Wonderful restaurant! One of the most romantic settings in the city that I've been to.
We've been here once on a regular night and once for a valentine's day dinner. The ambiance is perfect for a date or for a special night out. Try and get a seat in the winter garden, it's a beautiful setting with the namesake lanterns making for a wonderfully intimate setting. The food itself is really good, with excellent melt-in-your-mouth lasagnas. Everything is homemade and delicious. Make sure to get the tiramisu for dessert!
The food is great, and the service is attentive and friendly. Definitely a must try for date night.
Very tiny place & the guy I went with marveled at the atypical menu for an Italian restaurant. I had the lasagna after burning myself with hot water trying to pour my tea (that's always fun). They do hide the bathrooms here as a male diner and I were on a hunt to find them. A great ambiance but I was freezing from where we were sitting. The food was wonderful, though. No complaints and I'd come back if given the opportunity.
You come here for the ambiance, period.
I used to come here, back in the day, with a girlfriend so we could share their raspberry cheesecake. That's really all I could remember. The cheesecake and the ambiance.
Spouse and I dropped by last night and sat in the garden since we were in the area and he had never been. The food was all ok – nothing that you will remember, but will leave you satiated. I would describe it as upscale college Italian food – for the NYU crowd.
To be honest, I don't feel the need to ever return again. I'd rather hold onto the nostalgia of the past. My taste buds have matured over the years… and so too has the crowd of the places I visit.
The food here is great! I came here for brunch and got to sit in the near-empty back "winter garden" with large dramatic lampshades and windowed roof. It was super cute. I wouldn't recommend this place for brunch though given they have no brunch items. However, everything we ordered, from the lasagna to the duck salad to the faro salad, people loved. Even the potato leek and minestrone soups were good!
I think it would be an excellent place for dinner. Prices are quite reasonable.
Quick and short on this spot. Overall ambiance is great. The outdoor garden space is cool (both in temperature and space) with a fun fountain. It is cramped and quite loud once full though. The basement area is better for a more intimate date/ conversation with a stage set up for live jazz. You can watch the first early set for free but have to pay cover for the later 8:30pm set.
Food had some highs and lows. Great variety of pizzas with thin chewy crust and lots of flavor. Bolognese lasagna was bland, had to ask the server for a side of marinara sauce and not sure where the meat in the bolognese was. We also started with a caprese salad, the mozz was solid but otherwise it was a pretty standard app.
We were too full to try dessert, but they had a huge variety. Also lots of cocktails etc. also, wine by the glass sometimes worked out to be cheaper than a bottle. The Malbec was yuck.
Sat in the basement area and it was dark, cramped, and LOUD!
I guess you can call it the garden level, but it was downstairs and not the backyard. It was definitely hard to hear each other. And is this place good for groups? Well they will definitely accommodate you by pulling together small round tables and squish in the chairs. Will you be bumped because it's so crowded? Yes. I was even elbowed in the head by a server.
The food was fine. The pizza was simple and not soggy. The lasagna was a tad overcooked but still ok. The cheese was supposed to come with focaccia, but actually came with herbed flatbread.
Skip the dessert. They were out of a lot of items and the ones we had were pretty terrible. We had a berry cake, cannoli (plain only cause they ran out of chocolate), and the tiramisu.
Magical place. The jazz the decor the location the FOOD and the drinks. ALL ON POINT.
I loved the lasagne pesto – which was so melt in your mouth, warm your heart goodness. Eating that pesto lasagne made the whole world right again.
The staff were nice enough to let us have a whole corner of the restaurant in the basement when we were about 10 people. The seats might be a bit cramped when the crowd comes in, but if you come by early it's really empty.
Def recc the lasagne even though it's a bit small in quantity. The quality makes up for it though! Love the dessert shot when you get the bill as well. Definitely will come back here for some relaxation and good food.
