This is a quick stop for lunch. Your order gets ready very quick. I ordered the #5 double. I'm not sure what the double means. The meat is not a lot. I was hoping for double meat when I ordered the double. There are a decent number of tables if you want to eat at the restaurant.
I've been to the one in Chelsea, but I must say, this one down in the Financial District is by far the best. The staff is always in a good mood and they are pretty fast with orders. The place has a few tables and seats, so I usually order for take-out. My usual order is the chicken curry (single) with a boiled egg. It doesn't get better than that! The sauce is delectable, and poured over soft white sticky rice? I am in curry heaven. In regards to the staff, they always make me laugh. Every time an order is put in, they all yell "hooooyyy." They always make my day.
Good thing I found this place. Serving is big with an affordable price.
I walk in to this restaurant thinking its a curry place so I might not really enjoy it but since I'm so tired eating the same food for lunch so I give it a try.
I got the home run curry $9.50- it has egg, you can pick between pork or chicken, shrimp & sausage with rice. Yummy! The chicken & shrimp is coated which makes it crispy. I didn't expect that I'm going to enjoy the sauce like that. I really don't like sweet sauces. Good thing their sauce is a little salty & not sweet at all! Its tasty! Serving size is huge. If you're so hungry then this is really filling.
Service is great & very fast! I just waited for like 2 minutes & got my order.
I'll be a regular customer! 😉
Ordered over the phone and the service was great. The staff even asked around when will I arrive to pick it up. This is a big hint guys!! This lets the staff know when to assemble your meal with the fresh katsu. As katsu is generally fried and is crispy and hot, they want you to experience it in the best way possible. After arriving earlier than what I've told the staff, he quickly got the freshly fried katsu and assembled everything together neatly. I had three orders of the Home Run which included a shrimp tempura, sausage, 1 sliced boiled egg, chicken katsu, shredded cabbage, rice and their curry. That took less than 5 minutes. It was super delightful to eat it. The Home Run is a very comforting meal. It's best if you eat is ASAP. Don't let it go cold or else the katsu won't be as crispy and the curry won't be as great.
Only downside is they do not deliver. The inside of the restaurant is casual. I only saw one staff. He did everything from answering calls, assembling the meals, cash register, and so on.
I enjoy the Japanese Curry. I can't get enough of the sauce. I usually get the pork katsu. There isn't a line at 1PM.
There is this super friendly employee with lots of energy. His enthusiasm is refreshing after a long morning of work.
The different sizes reflect the amount of rice in the meal. The topping of meat or whatever is still the same.
Come on the 5th, 15th or 25th of each month to get a free topping coupon.
Go Go has been my first and only experience with Japanese curry, and it's been a very delicious experience. I've been here a few times for a very filling lunch, usually sticking to the chicken curry. You really get a lot of food for you money, I order a medium chicken curry, which is extremely filling and costs only about $8.
The standard meal is simple, it consists of white rice, a cutlet (either chicken or pork, but shrimp and sausage is also available), and tons of curry on top. The curry is the highlight and it's extremely flavorful. Add in some hot sauce and the meal is perfect.
The restaurant is small, but there's a lot of seating and it's not too hard to get a spot during lunch. The wait is never too long either, even when there's a line they keep things moving and the food is usually ready in about 5 minutes.
Quick, good portion Japanese curry. It is (relatively) cheap, the meat is good, the curry might be a bit salty for some, but really with the location and time, I really appreciate the efficiency and speed more so. It's really a 3.5 star.
Come check it out, but I don't think it's worth it to go past the katsu curry at $7 / $7.50. If this gets to be a $10 take out it's a bit much when all you're adding is a single shrimp and a bit more meat variety.
Anyways, I'll definitely be back for this and hopefully I just got a late batch of curry that seemed a bit saltier. Cheers for the great service!
Do you see what I see?! (points to the pic) it's a box full of curry! A box full of curry! Oh wait. Phew. There's rice under the curry. I almost had a heart attack. Was worried as to how I was going to eat the curry without rice. According to my friend, I did.. turn.. red while eating it. Thank god there was water! Free water! Woot woot!
I went with a college friend, who happened to work in the same building as I do. Before entering, we stared inside from outside of the door/window, the place was PACKED at 1pm. We both hesitated on going inside… Eventually we grew some balls and went inside. Apparently, everyone had already ordered and was waiting for their pick-up… I kind of panicked since I didn't get a good look at the menu and I was first to order. I quickly ordered the Original Go! Go! Curry. I mean, you can't go wrong when you're ordering an Original of something, right?!
The order came quicker than I thought–was thinking that I was going to spend my whole lunch time waiting for my food, but guess not! *Whew* My friend ordered the Chicken Curry Katsu. I tried a piece and the katsu was pretty good! I LOVE how crispy the skin was but the meat might have been too tough… The thing with ordering the Katsu was that there wasn't enough CURRY!! They first placed the rice in the box, then the Katsu on the rice and then the curry over the Katsu. More.. curry.. for the rice, please.
In conclusion, definitely a fan of this place. The curry wasn't too spicy, the katsu skin was beautiful and last but not least, I finished my meal! (:
As you guys already know, going in on the 5th, 15th or 25th of each month gets you a free topping coupon that's good for three weeks before it expires.
Update: 5/25/2016
To my surprised, it was pretty darn empty during dinner time (6pm) for one of their famous days ending in 5. Including the staff, my friend and I were only part of a total of 8 people in the restaurant. We must have waited at least 10 mins before our orders were taken–surprised that the service was much slower during dinner time.
