So far I have only been in for Brunch, but would love to return for dinner as well. Mominette had great reviews and we were not disappointed with our experience. The interior is very cute and the best part is the lovely enclosed patio they have out back. I'm not sure if you can sit in there year round, but I'm sure it's particularly nice on spring and summer nights. We each got the Eggs Benedict, which seemed to be what everyone was ordering when we were there. I had mine with bacon for the first time and it was awesome! It's a pretty simple dish, but I really enjoyed the flavor and creaminess of their Hollandaise and appreciated the perfectly cooked poached eggs. They make a great Bloody Mary as well, the kind with a lot of pepper and horseradish if that's what you're into!
Service was attentive. Note that they only accept Amex cards and cash, but they do have an ATM on site for convenience. I know some people have called out the big fat C rating in front. We noticed it right away and did ask about it. Apparently it has something to do with the location of the kitchen. Whatever the case, the food tasted fresh and the place didn't seem dirty. I would definitely return and would recommend stopping in for brunch. I will update once I visit for dinner.
French brunch food here is very good! The outdoor garden is very nice.
The seating situation is a bit of a mess as there is no list they will try to remember who's next. The food service was pretty good with the wait staff but could be improved in the bar area. We showed up to ask to put our name on the list but was told another couple was ahead of us which was totally fine, no problem. However, the couple that was ahead of us received complementary cocktails as it was thrown in our face just because we wanted to sign in and they made it seem like we were cutting in front when we asked to put our names down on wait the list. Made no sense to treat us as if we were cutting in line as we only just showed up and wanted to put our names down and our wait was no longer than 10 minutes.
The food…..
Fried chicken and mac and cheese —- AMAZING! Do order 🙂
Bacon eggs Benedict – Delicious!
Bourbon, beet and ginger cocktails was good but portion could be bigger for $8.
All in all, I think this place is good but there's something that turned me off with the way we were treated at the time we entered and around the bar area. I don't think I'll be back due to that but give it a try and maybe your experience will be better!
Location: In Bushwick. There seems to be plenty of transit around so I'm sure you can take a subway over then walk.
The place: The space gives off an old-world vibe that I really liked. They also have a great terrace out back and that's where we ate.
The goods: We ordered the Nicoise and the Seafood Risotto and shared both dishes. The salad was delicious and the tuna was perfectly seared. The vinaigrette was also super tasty but I forget what it was…. If you want something light, the salad is a good way to go. In terms of portions, it was perfect for two (you could probably eat this as a meal if you're not sharing, but it's on the appetizer list). The seafood risotto was OK. It was a pretty small portion, and there were literally three shrimps, two scallops (the medium-sized version) and salmon. Considering they charge $26 for it, I'd expect double the size and certainly, more seafood. While the seafood was fresh, I found the dish to be lacking in flavor. We ordered glasses of rosé as well, and really enjoyed this wine from Corsico. Very light and refreshing, but not sweet. Finally, we decided to live like rockstars and have Absinthe. These guys have got the technique down and everything – from the sugar cube to the flame – it was pretty awesome! If you've never had Absinthe before, it tastes like black licorice so you need to be a fan otherwise you're wasting your money.
Service: The staff at the bar are a little surly. I mean, there's no warm and fuzzy there. However, the owner (I think) was super friendly and he took the time to go over the menu, the wine and the Absinthe with us. We really liked him.
Price point: One appetizer + one main, 3 glasses of wine + 2 glasses of Absinthe totaled $96 before tip. A bit steep for what you're getting.
Mominette is probably the best place I went to in Brooklyn. The breakfast was amazing. SO GOOD. Amazing. SO GOOD. I had to repeat myself because I was in shock.
first and foremost it had the cutest greenhouse type patio that we got to eat on.
They have juice drinks you can add alcohol to them – so yes please.
We had a lot of meals at our place – omlettes, momlettes, open face omlettes (the bacon and apple was SO GOOD), eggs benedict, mac and cheese and the ultimate pancake. Like this pancake was a breakfast cake. We shared it. 5 girls. And we all loved it.
This is a must in you're in the Bushwick area. Cash only – but there is an ATM inside.
One down fall – the avocado "mouse". It tasted like acid. Just get regular avacados, please. That is all.
I came here for brunch on a rainy day, so there were almost no other customers. Sitting outside on the back patio is a must. It feels like a little garden oasis. Our waiter was French and although he was nice, he wasn't very warm. It took an extremely long time for our food to come out. I didn't check the timing but if I had to guess, I think it was about 25 minutes. It would have been fine if we were there to drink and relax, but there were only 2 other customers and we had somewhere to be.
Once we did receive the food, it was tasty. My friends enjoyed their Steak and Eggs, French Toast with fresh fruit, and create-your-own omelette with gruyere and delicious sautéed mushrooms. Because we were at a French restaurant I went with the Croque Madame and it was very tasty. The egg on top was slightly overcooked, but there was plenty of cheese and I finished the whole thing. The dish that was a miss was the side of Mac N Cheese. It was extremely bland, missing both cheese and salt. If they could just speed up the service, they would gain another star in my book.
I've been back a few times since my first experience here and I have grown to really like this place. The brunch scene is always popping here. Service has been consistently cool and the garden is still one of the flyest I've seen yet.
Came with a party of six and was able to choose outdoor seating right away. Service was quick with the water as soon as we sat down. Got a bottle of champagne and a bottle of red for the table, they didn't offer tasting but fortunately we liked the drinks.
As for the food: the grilled watermelon salad is great, savory and sweet at the same time. A bit overpriced in my opinion. The portions for the cheeseboard were tiny; expected a larger chunk than what we received. The apples and jam on the side was delicious with the cheese though. I also got a dozen oysters for the happy hour – these I would not recommend getting. Maybe that day's selection wasn't great or something, but the oysters were very small and the brine was not consistent. We got a handful of other appetizers but other than the watermelon salad, nothing was too memorable.
For the main: the ginger beat salmon was very well cooked. Soft, fresh, savory, with a side of arugula salad. Orange was a refreshing touch. Chicken Diane was good but nothing out of the ordinary; the honey mustard vinaigrette marinade was flavorful but I didn't think the chicken absorbed all of that well. Calamari parpadelle pasta had a lot of seafood toppings and the pasta was cooked al Dante, perfect for my taste.
Gratins: GET THE MAC AND CHEESE. This was perhaps the best Mac and cheese I have had in a while. The cheesey, gooey, creamy goodness had everyone at our table scraping for more. Ratatouille gratin was good but the cheese layer was a bit thick compared to the vegetables. Spicy shrimp gratin was good but didn't blow my mind or anything. Solid dish.
I would recommend this place for the cute garden seating and the variety of dishes they have, but not for the oysters.
Also, payment option is only cash or AMEX, which is strange to me because it's usually the other way around… As in no Amex. They do have an ATM in the restaurant but it probably will incur a heavy use fee.
All in all, a pretty solid dining option. I just wish the neighborhood would get better faster.
Cute solid place in the neighborhood. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch and there were plenty of open tables though the backyard was full. Service was friendly. I had the eggs florentine that came with a salad and potatoes. Very filling meal. The eggs were poached well and the hollandaise sauce was tasty. The potatoes were really good – nice and crispy on the outside but soft inside. Very affordable so a good choice if you're in the area.
