  1. Until I discovered Seed + Mill in the middle of Chelsea Market, I thought I already knew and tasted halva. But I think I was confused with another Mediterranean sweet treat because halva looks like nothing I ate before.
So for my first discovery of halva, I was pretty happy that they had so many flavours for me to choose from. I had a piece of the hazelnut-Nutella and one piece from the rose oil halva.

Piece of advice : be sure to eat it soon enough, this treat is gooey and very soft. But it doesn't matter if it looks weird, because it tastes amazing. My favourite was the rose one, so delicate !
The only negative point for me is the price : 6$/lb, and even if you ask for a small size, they have to cut it thick enough, so I holds its shape.
But if you're looking for something sweet to bring to a friends dinner party, don't look further : halva is original and tasty.

  2. Halva heaven at last!

For people who grew up around this savory/sweet sesame treat then you know what's up. If you are not familiar with halva then this is the place to try it and see if you like the texture/taste. I would give more than one flavor a try before you rule it out because it's honestly one of the most unique and delicious treats around.

We sampled the marble, rose oil and pistachio halva. All creamy and amazing. Ahhh I'm just so happy that seed and mill popped up at Chelsea market! What a great addition!

I love that they have so many traditional flavors like chocolate, pistachio, vanilla and dates but they also have very fun and unique flavors that I've never seen used in halva like peanut butter, cranberry, Cocoa nibs and coffee. They also apparently have soft serve and goat milk desserts which I'm really looking forward to trying.

Among the sea of cupcakes and frosted cookies that fill new york's dessert scene this is a welcome change and I'm happy to see some new cultures and traditions being brought to light.

  3. I ran by Seed + Mill this evening to get my halva fix and was blown away by the quality of the halva and by the kindness of the three individuals working behind the counter. This is seriously the best halva I've ever had in the States, and is just as legit as any halva I've sampled in Israel. I got to sample their date halva and their marble chocolate halva – both flavors were really delicious. The texture of their halva is so smooth and really melts in your mouth. They clearly use super high quality tahini and put so much care into making each flavor. I was the also really impressed by their warm and attentive customer service. I LOVE this place and am excited to visit again soon to try more flavors! Definitely check it out next time you're at Chelsea Market!

  4. We came upon this place while visiting Chelsea market. Gluten and dairy free is right up my alley! These spreads are made with tahini and are available in sweet and savory flavors. I chose the sea salt dark chocolate and my friend got the rose. Both had a nice consistency and great flavor.

The ladies were very helpful and offered samples as well. I will be sure to visit again next time I'm in Chelsea.

  5. OMG.  I'm glad that this is NOT in Southern Californa because I would have zero self control.  Yum and yum!  I had never had halvah before but when I saw that it was gluten free and dairy free, sign me up!  It was delish!!!!!  If it's warm outside, eat it right away because it will melt into a pile of paste. (which is still edible but not as pretty!)

  6. With the Israeli blood inside of me, I was obviously ECSTATIC to find out that a specialty halvah shop opened up at Chelsea Market.  I love to enjoy sesame seeds in all forms whether it's biting into halvah covered in chocolate or drizzling raw tahini in my mouth.  My Israeli mother could not believe her eyes when I sent her pictures of Seed + Mill's gorgeous halvah 'cakes'.  Once we got ourselves there, we grew as excited on line as little children get waiting for ice cream.

There were so many awesome flavors – how to choose one!?  Rose?  Pistachio?  Date?  Luckily they are super generous and allowed us to try a few.  The chocolate orange caught our attention with its marbled colors and chunks of candied orange pieces.  My mom & I spent the whole day picking at our halvah slices and felt waves of pure satisfaction with each and every bite.  I am BEYOND excited to go back for more!

  7. Delicious, crumbles into oil-ful chunks.

  8. I was expecting good halva here, but what surprised me was the frozen yogurt: halva flavored goat-milk frozen yogurt, topped with sweet tahini sauce.  A delicious sesame overload, I'd maybe recommend it over the halva itself, if only because you can get halva in lots of places but can't commonly get tahini topped fro-yo.

As for the halva: looks beautiful, tastes great, bit pricey.  You can buy a selection of small servings to try various flavors, or a bigger selection of one.  They'll also ship whole cakes, in case you want to tempt someone into rapid weight gain.

Coming to Seed + Mill is a great dessert complement to the hummus at Dizengoff, a few feet away.
