My wife and I grabbed dinner here a few days ago. The staff is pretty friendly and seated us fairly quickly. The menu does look really good and they have a lot of variety in terms of food choices. However, I wasn't sure of the pricing vs portion size.
We decided to share the Laksa and the Crispy Fried Chili Chicken. The Laksa, I will admit was pretty good. The chicken dish was also decent, but $17 for a fairly small amount of chicken felt like twilight robbery.
Overall, the food was ok, but nothing to write home about. If I find myself in the area, I may or may not come back – fairly nondescript experience (soured slightly by the pricing).

We stumbled upon this malaysian joint after a night out at a wine event in LES. One of our friends has apparently been here a few times and recommended the place!
For a party of 6…we got seated right away at around 8pm on a thursday night!! food was yummy and ambience is great. they do have a great selections of food ranging from malaysian..to singaporean..thai..indo and even japanese!
We started off with the roti canai. regular one + ones with eggs inside. They were good!

And for the main, I had the nasi kerabu. Which i've never had before. The rice was actually blue/green! Which I am told it's colored by some type of blue flower?!!? not sure but it was good. the whole dish was flavorful.

egg noodles with sprouts, tofu, egg, and some other veggies and meat in shrimp chilli paste.
for dessert the owner gave us a complimentary dish of this sticky cube thingies..i wish i remember what they were called but its half coconut and half taro. it was my fave!!! salty and savory at the same time.
we also had this shave malaysian ice thing that came with peanuts, jellos and some syrup, it was refereshing.
lastly we had the peanut butter crepe which was finger licking good and hot!
Was luckily introduced to this restaurant by a Malaysian friend of mine for a group outing. The owner of RASA not only accommodated our large group by rearranging the tables and chairs, but also increased the portion of food served to a larger group of people. Thank you!!
Diving into critiquing the food at RASA, I absolutely enjoyed the artistic presentation of its food that composes an array of different colors and shapes, making the food as visually pleasant as appetizing.
Be sure to order coconut rice and a plate of recommend spicy dish such as their signature Lakasa or pepper eggplant. The creamy sweet texture of coconut rice mashes really well with the mixed spicy flavors you get from any spicy curry dishes, generating an unbelievable sensation on your tongue.
We also ordered this dish for which I forget the name(let's just call it Malaysian combo cake because it really looks like one). It was a huge plate of different variety of meat, tiny fried fish and eggs presented on top of bamboo leaves. It was both aesthetic and delicious- quite a feast! Suggest you order it only when you have a party of at least 3 people, for it was quite a substantial amount of food!
Rasa and Nyonya have been our go-to Malaysian places for the last couple years. Unfortunately, our recent meal here wasn't as good as the last time we ate here. The roti canai, as always, was great but is still not as good as Nyonya's. The Penang Assam Laksa, that complex melange of tamarind, spicy, fishy and sweet was disappointing. It was missing the sweet and minty part that usually rounds out the flavor and was also missing the crunchiness of the bean sprouts. We'll give it another chance as the past 2 times, the Penang Assam Laksa has been the best I've tried.
Instead of the usual Nasi Lemak, we went with the Nasi Kerabu, which had a fried chicken leg served with blue rice, a mint salad, anchovies and keropok. The fried chicken was amazing, the rest of it was a little bland. Washed it down with some Te Tarik and it was a decent meal. I'm willing to chalk up the Laksa to an off night and will come here again.
Don't have much to say about the food but I came in here for a delicious frozen beverage. The beverage, frozen sangria, was just alright, nothing too groundbreaking. However, the staff was incredibly friendly and I hope to return for food next time!
Had it for dinner last night, dined in for an early dinner. Service is great and food was pretty good. We ordered the nasi Lemak, the kampong fried rice with shrimp (I think it's usually called nasi goreng in most places), and the chicken lettuce wraps. The nasi Lemak was really good but the shrimp in the kampong fried rice seemed like it was frozen and the fried egg is like SUPER fried… Possible deep fried (ew) whenever I've had nasi Lemak it has been served with a sunny side up egg so that the yolk runs and mixes with everything but I got a hard boiled…well HALF of a hard boiled egg… With this version. The dishes are kind of pricey for what it is, I mean I can make
This at home myself it wasn't spectacular. Also the chicken wraps were kind of gross and looked like ground beef not chicken, tasted really salty. Everyone that works there is super nice and attentive (water glasses were constantly being filled) but the food is average with above average prices. Might go back because there aren't many Malaysian places, definitely wouldn't order sushi here though.
I like to go try new restaurants on Saturday Lunch. Because many are only open for dinner or have a brunch menu, the choice of restaurants gets smaller than expected. I know, it's New York, that should be impossible!
I am not a fan of Brunch menus. Many look almost the same.. That's why I prefer Asian restaurants on weekend lunches.
Rasa also has a brunch menu but also the classic all day menu. Great. Thanks.

Indonesian Grilled BBQ Chicken Over Rice
It sounded great on paper. It didn't pan out so well in reality. The chicken was very, very, fatty. When I bit into the piece I cut off, I could taste the grease from the chicken. Not my thing. I'd really skip this dish.
Drunken Noodle with Tofu
This dish was much better than mine. This was the dish that my girlfriend ordered. The noodles were savory and well seasoned. It tasted delicious, and I would totally order that.

We were seated quickly, and they were friendly throughout the meal. We were taken care of constantly with the water refills, taking our order, delivering the food, and giving us the check. My only qualm was that I legit returned my entire grilled chicken, and I wasn't asked what was wrong with it, or offered a discount/comp for it. Seriously.
Ambiance/Decor (3/5)
Cute and casual. Perfect for a date night. I loved that the restaurant was very clean, and so were the restrooms.
Bottom Line: I suspect this place does offer great food based off of the Yelp reviews. However, I either came on an off night, or this dish is the problem. Can't say I'm eager to go back though. 🙁
