Serves me right to think I can fill up on mouth-watering Indian fare in the middle of Brooklyn. My experience is strictly with their food as it was delivered to my door and I had no face-to-face interaction with whoever runs that place.
The food was a disappointment. When I lived in the city, walking north on Lexignton Avenue led me to a an assortment of Indian restaurants, one which became my go-to. For about $9, I could get an appetizer, chicken tikka masala, 2 sides, and complimentary naan that would last me 2 days.
That order is my usual, so that's what I had at Desi Grill…and paid $20 for. The chicken was dark meat (I completely agree with Amanda M's review below) and unchewable. "I wouldn't even give it to my dog," I thought and I don't even HAVE a dog! All I had left is a mediocre naan, ok rice, and some sauce. For twenty hard earned dollars!
If you're stuck in the middle of BK and craving some spicy Indian cuisine, I suggest you hurry into Manhattan to Curry Hill.
Had dinner at Desi Grill with my family. This is a top notch Indian restaurant.
We had a variety of different dishes. Started with the Lasuni Gobi, which I really liked. The garlic and tomato sauce went with the cauliflower perfectly. For entrée with had the Chicken Tikka Masala. I thought it was excellent. Flavorful with the right amount of spice. We also ordered the Garlic Naan and it was the perfect combination with the chicken.
The price was very reasonable and the staff was friendly. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed the food here, so I'll definitely be back.
Desi Grill has the best Indian food I've had in NYC, hands down.
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! First of all, it's BYOB when you dine in. Hell yeah. The service is WONDERFUL. Everyone there is so sweet and helpful. It seems to be getting a little busier lately but normally it's very quiet when you dine in and there's a cute table by the window you can grab and comfy booths.
I've ordered the paneer makhani every time so far (I'm predictable, it's my favorite) and it is delicious. They're great about adjusting the spice upon request and never disappoint me when I ask for it extra spicy. The naan is unbelievably good, it's absolutely perfect and so fresh. Both the onion and garlic naans are really fantastic. They also have excellent raita, which I would highly recommend. It was a great addition.
The staff bagged everything up very neatly at the end and even gave us more rice when we asked. I've also ordered delivery from here and they were VERY fast. The food came about 15 minutes earlier than I was expecting it and everything was neatly packed.
I seriously cannot recommend this place enough!
I came here last night with friends and was pleasantly surprised. I've ordered delivery from here before, but this was my first time sitting down in the restaurant. Great location-right next to the Jefferson L train stop. Divey, cozy atmosphere. BYOB, which I loved. Our server was super friendly and opened our bottle of wine for us.
The food was perfect-not too salty or oily, and full of flavor. My Dal Tadka was a generous portion, and the perfect consistency. Amazing with the unlimited rice provided. I had a bite of my friends Aloo Gobi which was very spicy and delicious. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options here, all around $11 for entree size. I look forward to returning.
Their samosas tasted…off. I'm not sure what was wrong with them, but I ended up tossing them. Their chicken tikka masala was, as another reviewer mentioned, watery and not very flavorful. They also apparently don't have garlic naan, or any naan for that matter, which is just a travesty. I ordered off Seamless and didn't see it on there, so I asked them to include it and just charge me for it, but my order arrived naan-less so I can only assume they don't have it.
I work right across the street from this place and honestly I would eat here everyday if I could.
Best Chicken Tika Masala around and the tandoori chicken is amazing as well. Lunch special is a must because everything is less than $10 and comes with rice and Naan bread.
Make sure to come here and check it out. Sam is one of my favorite waiters he gets the job done.
