  1. A nice little Cafe Grumpy outpost at Grand Central. I was there around 3:00 so I'm sure if there's a morning of lunch rush, I missed it. There was no line and I got my order at a rapid pace– I hope they keep up the momentum when it's busier.

I asked the cashier what would last me an over two hour train ride, caffeine wise. At first she did not understand what I meant (not a problem, I wasn't exactly clear) but once she knew what I was getting at– I needed a ton of caffeine– she recommended their cold brew. I ordered it and immediately knew I made the right choice.

They have a ton of items for you to customize your coffee, which is great for anyone with dietary restrictions. I prefer my iced coffee with almond milk and they had it! I added a bit and it tasted perfect. The coffee was smooth and blended perfectly with the almond milk. It was the right amount of bitter (I don't add any sweetener). Not only that, but it have me just the caffeine boost I needed to handle the long ride from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie.

Taking off a star because I personally think the coffee is overpriced, but it's no worse than other "indie" New York spots. I recommend this Cafe Grumpy spot and look forward to trying their other locations and drinks.

  2. Pretty good cold brew, slightly tangy but overall very smooth

An array of tempting treats beckons customers but I said no this time, next time though..

Long lines during mornings and after lunch

    Recommended: Cold Brew

  3. Small cafe near Grand Central..Coffee is good..Also tried their Masala chai – Totally different from the Indian ones .. Certainly avoid the Masala Chai at this place.

    Overall an OK experience !

  4. Cold brew coffee is seriously the bomb. Rich, intense, smooth. As generally a grumpy person (especially when I'm schlepping all over Grand Central Terminal to catch a metro north train) :-P…  this place, their cold brew, and their grumpy coffee bean logo make me smile ;-)..

  5. I don't mind Starbucks but sometimes it's nice to have some seriously good coffee for a change. Highly recommended!

  6. The coffee was extremely bitter and I was not a fan.  I was hoping that I would be blown away but the service wasn't anything special either.  On to the next one!

  7. Good place for a quick stop at Grand Central. We went after dinner and they had pour – over "happy hour" which meant that certain blends were almost half the price of what you would have paid in the morning. There are some bar seats along the store windows and that is it, so it is not good for groups.

We ordered a latte and two pour-overs: one blend called La Bolsa from Guatemala, which was described as "chocolatey" and an Ethiopian blend which was described as "super fruity".

I had the Ethiopian, which was super fruity as promised– it was as sour as an injera. I would not pick it for dessert coffee but it might be a cool kick in the morning for those who love acidity.

The staff was very nice. They took time into explaining and recommending the blends and when I realized that my friend and I ordered the same blends and asked to change it, they did so with no problems. They very politely asked us to leave when they were done with cleaning and did not hurry us out before the 8pm close time, which honestly would have been understandable.

  8. Grumpy's makes me laugh every time I visit. Something about the logo gets me every time, and puts me in a good mood as soon as I walk in. That, coupled with the bright orange Synesso machines just do it for me. The music is upbeat, the service is friendly and fast, and the roast is a caramelowy sweet treat. Keep being yourself, grumpy.
